Summer is coming

    Anime

ONA

A light-looking season, though there's a few that look like they have some dramatic potential

Wait, High Score Girl and Grand Blue are getting anime?

That's awesome!

That description for Back Street Girls...

I'm sure that will be incredibly tastefully handled.

It's been fun.

From what I've seen of it, the trans part is just one aspect of the constant humiliation the characters go through. It's more unpleasant than trashy, per se

I mean, that in and of itself sounds trashy... though yeah, I wasn't planning on watching it anyway.

This season really does look very light on the ground. Jashin-chan and Tsukumogami Kashimasu are really the only two that might be good; isn't Yuragisou no Yuuna-san a note-by-note ripoff of that one Seven Treasures of Nanawhoever anime from a few years ago?

It's been fun.

I would say it's basically the replacement for people that liked To-Love Ru, at least in terms of fanservice.

…Ouch. YSYS looks bad. Visually I mean. Combined with the likely censorship, I pity the fans waiting for this anime. =[ Because for the little I've read of the manga (the first two volumes), I'd say it's actually better than TLR in many respects.

How long till the generic isekai fad burns out?

Cause I can't wait for when short-ass or at least comprehensible titles come back into style.

That's not anywhere near 'long-ass' on the LN scale of things, guys.

Anyway, a Japanese shrine leading to a Norse world and a solar-powered smartphone. Yeah, okay.

It's been fun.

I think isekai has a couple years yet. The long titles a separate, older tendency, though

The thing to understand about those long ass-titles is that people rarely say the entire thing; they tend to come up with three syllable abbreviations when they actually have to say the thing. The title are meant to be attention grabbing, like the cover of a comic book; they give a causal viewer a quick idea of what the premise is gonna. Some they have a function.

As for Isekai- I feel like people overstate how common it is, and how long it's been going on. We've only been getting super generic stuff on a consistent basis for the past year or so; Like, peeling back the calendar a bit, we see that Re Zero, Kono Suba, Youjo Senki, Grimgar and Gate are the ones that started in 2016 or early 2017. Those shows are all pretty different from each other, and other than Gate, all put a fair amount into straying from what's seen as the usual formula.

The season after that? Re Creators is only thing that's debatably Isekai, and that's still very atypical, even if you count it. And although the ones that've aired up since then have been pretty generic note , there are still only a handful of them.

But all that said, this specific show that provoked this discussion certainly look generic as heck as it's not even the only generic looking Isekai scheduled for next season, so.

Of what's listed so far, I'm interested in the following:

Banana Fish — Not usually into BL, but It's from a really old manga (1987), and I'm a sucker for the 80s Aesthetic

Cells at Work! — I want to see exactly how they make this work.

Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro — it looks just craqzy and over the top from its PV

Hanebad — This looks to be very pretty if nothing else, about a sport not often covered, Badminton.

Harukana Receive — Looks fanserive heavy, as expected of something about Beach Volleyball

Happy Sugar Life — Cute outside, psychopath inside

High Score Girl — old school arcade story should be fun.

And is it just me, or are more obscure olympic sports getting anime in the leadup to Tokyo 2020?

Some otome mobage I'd overlooked

They're updating the setting...

Harukana Receive — Looks fanserive heavy, as expected of something about Beach Volleyball

While about girls in bikinis, the manga is never particularly leering. I wouldn't really consider it a fanservice series

I wouldn't be surprised if there's more funding for different sports anime now, with the Olympics coming up. There are some ads running on the trains nowadays that explain the rules and scoring systems of various Olympic sports, too.

It's been fun.

Ongaku Shoujo seems interesting. I have seen the LN being advertised in the entry catalogue for the 38th Music Media-mix Market two years ago.

I wondered if there is a badminton anime out there....

[down]Didn't notice that one, sorry.

Generic doesn't mean bad though and I've heard that the source material is actually pretty good.
