The omniverse, the entirety of every idea, every possibility, every world... It is truly infinite, in size and duration. Whilst the infinite undiscovered is a wondrous thing... It is oft we lament the fact that untold evil and wickedness exists as well, constantly putting the innocent in danger and threatening Existence itself. Though our organization is vast and powerful, we can only do so much at once, often forcing us to forsake smaller instances of Evil & Conflict. Thus, a new operation to put into effect... The C.A.R.A.P.A, Criminal Admittance Rehabilitation And Pardonance Agenda.

By offering criminals and the wicked the chance for freedom in their home reality, in exchange they are forced to work for us in helping & saving other realities. Working for us until we either deem them reformed or having done enough good to outweigh the evil they'll commit, each individual will also be given a device- Part weapon, part tool, and part security measure, it'll ensure they're able to face any threat & ensure they do not go astray. Primarily they'll be sent after lower-scale Issues, though as they improve more significant problems can go their way.

They can back out of the program whenever they so wish, and they will not be left for dead. However, should they somehow disengage the security measures, it is for the best the 'Law Control' lack overwhelming power innately. Thus, until the device adapts to them and my program Nexus approves of them, the prisoners won't have much additional power should any entities outclassing them get in the way. Still, should a foe prove overwhelming, they can be recalled in an instance or alternatively teleported past the foe.

All in all, I am proposing recruiting criminals to both redeem them & broaden the range of our good, and to outfit them with a multi-purpose device to assist, protect, and moderate them. I've already finished twelve such devices, so now I only need approval to head forward with the project.

-Cornelius Hawking of The Midnight Palace Outpost

Defenders of The Omniverse is, in short, a Universe-Hopping roleplay where the Player Characters are (technically/legally/natively speaking) criminals & villains. You can play as any kind of character, from wholly original to Official material & everything in-between. Though, regarding Super Weight, anyone above Hyper Weight will end up having their dangerous abilities limited. For that matter, as long as the Player Characters wear their Law Control, any attempt of villainy with their Abilities & fancy gear/gadgets will be denied by it- But hey, whatcha expect from such an advanced omniversal organization that's trying to stop evil? Doesn't stop you from Badass Normal antics and using simple/non-powered devices, though the DOTO still wouldn't be pleased.

Speaking of, the Law Control will end up being a very prominent device with a multitude of purposes. Just to start with it functions as a Morph Weapon, can alter/produce effects to take advantage of Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors, and serve as an Amplifier Artifact allowing for new moves or even enabling new abilities. Its defensive/non-combat applications are also valuable, such as bypassing Broken Bridges, acting as an omniversal security pass, and even providing Complete Immortality. However, even with these advantages the Player Characters won't be unstoppable, but where's the fun in that?

Finally, regarding the Universes the Player Characters will end up visiting, it'll be a mix of the following and more- Fusion Fic worlds, Alternate Continuity (which also counts for otherwise During Canon worlds), Pre/Post-Canon, In-Between Time Skips, basically any kind of set-up that allows for proper Interaction. However, I won't do Worlds I don't actually know, though making suggestions is nonetheless okay and desired- I want to provide Worlds everyone will find fun.

The following information, by the way, is stuff that'll be beamed into your head the moment you take the offer & equip your Law Control.

     Pertient Information

DOTO: Short for "Defenders of The Omniverse", DOTO is an interuniversal organization crusading against evil & protecting the peace. Though they would prefer to address all Issues, they're regularly forced to ignore them in favor of greater problems such as Omni/Universal damage or Multiversal conquerors amongst other things.

Law Control: The most important tool during your tenue, the Law Control enhances your combat versatility, broadens your ability to traverse universes, and also serves to keep you in-line. All that it does is too much to explain in this instance, however it'll always maintain connection with the base, provide direct telepathic commucation, and translate languages & gestures into something everyone can understand.

Midnight Palace: Strange location resting in an otherwise void universe like the midnight sky, the Midnight Palace has no real rules- Physics is a suggestion, minds & souls may enter other universes in their dreams, and the palace so impossibly large whole groups operate without noticing each other, amongst other things. To avoid getting lost, teleporters have been set up to access the various facilities.

     Midnight Palace Areas

Arena of Heroes: Said by Gateway to have already existed fully formed, all DOTO did was add in technology & magic artifacts to fulfill additional purposes. Namely, one may face on-the-spot created mindless Machines & Homunculi, access created battlefields, or even face phantom copies of specific individuals to fight.

Center of Civilization: Where you have been teleported to, this is where agents of DOTO and other entities primarily gather, broken up into three specific sub-areas- The Media Center which doubles as mission control and where all the power/broadcasts come from, The Commence Center where food & aquisication of goods take place, and finally the Rest Center where sleep & injury is taken care of.

Gateway's Treasure Room: Room that is otherwise closed off, it belongs to the God of Openings and Pathways, Gateway. Inside is riches, magical artifacts, advanced technology and potions- Amongst more mundane and random items, like clothing, furniture, and even an entire store. While there is no teleporter leading directly here, Gateway himself can take you.

     Notable Individuals

Cornelius Hawking: Hailing from a universe he chose to forget, Cornelius Hawking is a supernaturally Gifted individual. Combining his intellect with magic & science, he primarily creates magitek with the purpose of assisting his fellow DOTO members. In addition, he is my creator, and a man who believes strongly in making a peaceful better world.

Gateway: Calling the Midnight Palace his home, the seemingly fourteen year old is a hero through and through, if perhaps more focused on adventure. Nonetheless, the playful God is actually over five hundred years old, and well feared & loved as the powerful hero he is back home. Though he can be quite excited by new discoveries, with his powers over Space & (Un)Locking combined with his complete immortality he is no foe to enrage.

Nexus: I, nascent yet aware, am an Artificial General Intelligence that will be your guide and moderator. We will become well acquinted, assuming you decide to stay. Nonetheless, I will be the primary entity you'll talk to regarding your job, and the one to inform you.

Ryan Steele: Carrying the mantle of Clockwork Reaper purely because his attire makes him look like a Clock Punk Grim Reaper, Ryan Steele is considered a "True Mage" in his home universe given his limitless ability to shape reality through his constructs. However, enraged by the lack of magic used to better his world, he has limited himself by rejecting the idea of magic.

So out-of-universe now... The above will be periodically updated as you (need to) learn new things and meet new people. To that end, there'll eventually be Folders for World-Specific Knowledge & People. However, asking certain questions OOC may unlock new IC knowledge or expand on existing entries (Such as asking about Homunculi or Nexus' past up-to-now). Some of this information may eventually be revealed, though knowing more earlier may allow for opputunites you would otherwise miss by waiting. Now then, the Application Format.

Application Format

  • Character Name:

  • Race: (Basically whatever you want)

  • Origin Universe: (Name for Original characters, or Link for already Official characters)

  • Appearance: (Include Age & Gender)

  • Abilities/Skills/Powers: (Basically everything your character can do)

  • Equipment: (Include Law Control or not, and your Equipment will have been fetched)

  • Backstory: (Add a Personality sub-section if you wish, and if the character wasn't originally imprisoned in Canon do explain)

  • Other: (For all the hilarious or not triva that nonetheless explains more about the character)

With all that out of the way, I'll like to mention two things- One, you can go exploring the Midnight Palace. It is a weird place and so events galore if you decide to wander around. Second, I haven't decided on the first world yet because I want to hear what you guys want, though I am considering Gravity Rush for it.

Which version of Superman? Personally I would suggest an incarnation that's already Hyper Weight or below- But that assuming you aren't deliberately wanting to roleplay a version whose abilities have been limited. Which does sound interesting to watch.

Overall, anyone is acceptable- Just keep in mind anyone too powerful will need to be limited.

Oh my gosh, YES. I'll probably get a sign up soon but a few questions.

When you mean explain "if the character wasn't originally imprisoned in Canon"? Does that mean they have to be imprisoned?

Law Control takes any weapon shape, right?

And is it okay for a duo? Specifically, Prometheus and Pandora from Mega Man ZX? It mentioned villains to be redeemed and I thought these two would be great. Though it's more like I feel sorry for them and this is the perfect oppurtunity to let them have a happy ending.

Well... Specifically DOTO would want their candidates to have incentive to accept, but also avoid blatantly getting them off the hook (thus picking people already in jail). However, a "Two Birds One Stone" angle is possible, picking candidates who have yet to be dealt with natively and/or would ultimately die (or simply rot in prison).

Thus, the Character realy just needs to count as criminal/evil/villainous and presented a good enough reward for their compliance. I was just really thinking "Boxed Crook awesome idea!" to have considered the alternatives earlier.

Regarding Law Control- Outright Morph Weapon, though it falls a bit under Imagination-Based Superpower as well. The major idea behind the Law Control was making it into a perfectly versatile device that would be God Mode Hax in a normal video game really.

As for Duos... Sure, why not? Plenty of characters with Wonder Twin Powers and Combination Attack. Though I would want to avoid quartets and higher as too much focus would be on one Player.

What if not outright villainous but criminal and sort of light grey in terms of morality? I'm asking because I was thinking of either Mason Savoy from Chew, or Jigen from Lupin the 3rd.

Legitimate Villainy isn't actually a prerequisite, so long as they're treated as such in their native universe or wherever they're actually imprisoned. So Justified Criminal, Noble Demon and Anti-Villain would be valid options. Really pretty much anything goes, and given the Law Control can serve as Power Limiters if need be... Ultimately no character is deniable, of course I'll also mention if a Character may be too problematic.

Basically, just put up your Application & make sure your Character is (wrongly or not) considered Bad where they come from. If there's any potential issues, I will point them out.

I think it's time to put a new twist on an old friend...

  • Character Name: Seth Stiles
  • Race: Cyborg
  • Origin Universe: Earth-702 (basically, imagine the culture of 2016 with the technology of 2066)
  • Appearance: Seth is a 17-year-old male of mixed Mexican and Irish descent. Stands 5'10". In terms of his face, hair, and body type, imagine this guy with unnaturally bright green eyes and you've got a pretty good idea. At the start of the game, he's wearing the same clothes he had on when he committed his crimes: a Los Angeles Kings snapback, which he prefers to wear backwards, a pair of mirrored Ray-Bans, an Escape the Fate T-shirt, a black denim vest with an arctic camo hood, black skinny jeans, and black hi-top Chuck Taylors.
  • Abilities/Skills/Powers: Seth's powers derive from Project Body Check, a protoype powered endoskeleton armor that fuses with its wearer, essentially making them half-man, half-machine.
    • The armor comes with an onboard A.I., M.O.L.L.Y., which provides tactical information and AR cues only he can see. M.O.L.L.Y. can only be heard by Seth and anyone who's established a commlink with the armor, so to most people, his back-and-forth with "her" just sounds like he's talking to himself.
    • Seth can master any form of combat in seconds, provided the armor has files for it onboard. Before his capture, Seth learned boxing, capoeira, and gunplay.
    • Seth's strength, toughness, visual perception, and reflexes are significantly increased. He can punch through concrete, survive getting hit by a train, dodge bullets, track multiple moving objects at the same time, and so on.
  • Equipment: Nothing, aside from a cell phone, some earbuds, and the Law Control. His preferred weapon forms include a pair of guns, a battle axe, and a guitar that, when played, unleashes sonic blasts.
  • Backstory: Seth Stiles was just an ordinary high schooler in Las Vegas with a love of heavy music and an aptitude for technology. So when he was one of 25 students at his school to get picked to visit the campus of IronCorp, one of the premier designers and manufacturers of powered armor in the world, Seth was absolutely stoked. During the tour of the facilities, Seth got separated from the group and started wandering, eventually reaching an area he shouldn't have been able to access and finding Project Body Check in its default silver cube form. Unfortunately for him, this was where things went wrong, as, with nothing stopping him from touching it, he picked the prototype up and it fused with his body. Seth had unwittingly stolen quite possibly the most valuable object on the whole campus.
    • As he attempted to adjust, he accidentally destroyed several other prototypes. That was when he realized the armor had changed the color of his eyes. The intended purpose was to make users instantly recognizable—and it absolutely did, because the security, in their own powered exoskeletons, were shooting at him on sight. What followed was twenty minutes of mayhem, as Seth fought off security, attempted to disguise his eyes with a stolen pair of sunglasses—it didn't work—and generally tried his hardest to get the hell out of there. By the time security finally overwhelmed him, half the campus was a smoldering crater.
    • With no way to separate the armor from him and all the blueprints destroyed, the only way to get Project Body Check out of Seth was to kill him. Just before he could be killed, however, he was taken away by DOTO and the incident was covered up. As far as the rest of his world knows, a prototype weapon malfunctioned and exploded on campus; Seth has been declared missing or dead.
  • Other:
    • In terms of personality, Seth is always high-energy and never half-asses anything. Give him an interesting topic conversation, and he'll go on about it for hours. Give him a girl to chat up, and he'll be trying to impress her all night. Give him a stage and a guitar, and he'll play and scream his heart out. Give him an opponent in combat, however, and he becomes much more serious, talking less and cycling between confidence and rage as the battle plays out—and until the other guy stops fighting, he doesn't stop either.
    • Prior to his "disappearance," Seth was the rhythm guitarist and lead singer for a local metalcore band called Smash the Cage.
    • Seth's favorite video game character is Guile from Street Fighter II. If he can figure out a way to incorporate the Sonic Boom and Flash Kick into his arsenal, he will.
    • Theme song: "Dragging Dead Bodies In Blue Bags Up Really Long Hills" by Escape the Fate

I got it out early! YAAAAAAY!

  • Character Name: Zim and GIR.
  • Race: Irken and SIR unit respectively.
  • Origin Universe: Invader Zim
  • Appearance:
    • (Zim): [1]. Zim's age is unknown. His gender is male. He's about as tall as the average pre-teen child.
    • (GIR): [2]. As a robot, GIR doesn't have an assigned age or gender, although he seems to identify as male. GIR is about size of a toddler.
  • Abilities/Skills/Powers:
    • (Zim): According to various sources, Zim has trained for multiple decades as an Invader. As such, he's extremely skilled in flight, confident enough to fly through an asteroid field, and decently skilled in combat, relying more on tricking his opponent than brute strength. He's also very good at stealth. Able to escape banishment and trick almost an entire planet's population with a Paper-Thin Disguise among other things.
    • (GIR): GIR is as powerful as Zim makes him. As of now, he has the ability to fly via jet-like legs, extreme navigational skills thanks to Zim fitting him with a chip allowing it, and the uncanny ability to find pigs wherever he goes. Nobody really knows how that last one works.
  • Equipment:
    • (Zim): All Irkens are given a special backpack known as a PAK at birth. It contains two notable doodads: spider-like appendages for climbing on walls and ceilings, and a special field that allows him to breathe in space. The PAK doesn't just belong to Zim. The PAK is Zim. It holds his personality and his brain. Without it, Zim is just a husk.
    • (GIR): GIR seems to have a sort of hammerspace in his head. Unfortunately, anything he pulls out is useless, whether it be an unhealthy amount of pig toys or a cupcake.
  • Backstory: Zim is an alien invader who participated in Operation Impending Doom I, a plan from the Irken empire to conquer the universe. It would have succeeded, but Zim ended up accidentally destroying the base. As you can imagine, Zim's leaders (known as the Tallest) weren't very pleased with his actions and banished him. It was the last the Tallest ever heard of him... Until a while later when they were assigning invaders for Operation Impending Doom II. Zim "quit" being banished and decided to show up to try again. In shock from his sudden appearance (and out of really not liking Zim), the Tallest sent Zim to the most insignificant they could find: Earth. Zim was assigned a SIR Unit, a sort of robot partner for invaders, made entirely out of trash named GIR. After this, Zim and GIR were sent on their way. Upon arriving on the miserable rock, they quickly met an Earth child named Dib. Zim hated Dib, Dib hated Zim, and GIR was just kinda there. After many, many, many attempts to destroy Earth (all of which were foiled by Dib), Zim and GIR were finally captured by mysterious men in black. Fast forward a bit and the two are given an option, save universes or be dissected. Obviously, they chose the latter.
    • Personality (Zim): Zim is loud. Very, very loud. He's also very egotistical, believing he's the best invader there was among other things. Finally, he's very proud of his race. In his eyes, the Irken empire is the cream of the crop. Unfortunately, he's brought down by a terrible infliction: He is breathtakingly stupid. He does have a few moments of genius, like the time he shrunk himself down to kill his enemy from the inside, but other times he does stuff like trying to put out a slowed down explosion... by speeding up the explosion.
    • Personality (GIR): GIR is potentially even louder than Zim. To the point he practically screams every other word. But while Zim is very cruel and self-centered, GIR is actually pretty nice in comparison. When he does something mean, it's usually because Zim told him to or because he just doesn't know any better. Unfortunately, he shares another trait with Zim. GIR is also stupid to an unsettling degree. He seems to have the brain of a very young and hyperactive child. He never thinks things through, has a very short attention span, and is always moving. He's also quite the Big Eater, which is strange since he technically doesn't have a stomach.
  • Other: Zim is also trained in the art of fast food. That will in no way help us, but now you know. On another note, the two also have disguises to blend in with their surroundings better. Zim wears contact lenses and a wig, and GIR wears a green dog suit. Really, it's a wonder they weren't caught up until this point.

Two things I'd like to note. First, since the Oni Press comic series is ongoing, I'm going to be ignoring it and focusing only on the original TV show. Second, I know the duo was never actually captured, but the "men in black" story was the best excuse I could come up with for them being prisoners.

That, and now I'm deciding if I want to use a different character or Prometheus and Pandora.

And...I end up going with the other character, and finished sooner than I thought. Hopefully she's okay. I wouldn't mind making nerfs to her powers if needed. I'll decide on the Law Control shape or whatever needs to be handled when the RP starts.

And didn't see any rule against posting again after yourself so...yeah.

  • Character Name: Elisa Tracks
  • Race: Human
  • Origin Universe: Earth SC-16 (An Earth where magic is reemerging as well as monsters and various ancient threats)
  • Appearance: Standing at 5'8'', the nineteen year old woman has a fit and lean build. Her light brown skin has several scars here and there, with the most obvious one being right across her neck to her chest. Her dark brown hair is straight and reaches behind her shoulder blades while her eyes are green. Her attire, before incarceration, consisted of a white shirt, a pink long sleeved polo shirt, blue jeans, white rubber shoes, her magenta Alpha Collar and her yellow bracelet with a keychain in the shape of a dagger.
    • Ultimate Unified form: She remains the same height and her Alpha Collar remains but she looks drastically different. She gains a tail as long as her legs. She has almost skeletal-like white armor covering her, with her dark blue rough skin only visible at her joints, hands and wings. Her head turns reptilian with dog teeth and on her shoulders are similarly shaped "extra heads" with the same glowing pure red eyes as her main head. She has claws on her hands and feet. Her large bat like wings are dark blue with the inside being golden.
  • Abilities/Skills/Powers: When not using her Alpha Collar, she's pretty much a normal human. She's trained and skilled in fighting in close range combat as well as her various abilities when her Alpha Collar is activated. After a few years surviving on her own in the wild, she also knows quite well how to hide if need be, hunt food and treat her own injuries.
  • Equipment:
    • Alpha Collar: One of two surviving original versions of Shifter Collars, devices built to combat the monster threat in her world. It lets her turn into what is called Ultimate Unified form due to later Shifter Collars having different limited forms. In this form, Elisa is strong enough to easily destroy a cliffside and carry things many times her weight, withstand the force of several tons of impact force, isn't easily cut, her senses are enhanced, and fly and run as fast as sound. Her "extra heads" on her shoulders act like motion sensors. She can't neccessarily see through them. She can breath fire from her mouth and these "extra heads". She can also eat things that would normally kill humans and can recovery a little faster than most people. The energy her body emits is powerful enough, when focused, to make portals through time and space, usually looking like she's ripping it instead. Her Law Control prevents her from abusing the last one for obvious reasons though.
  • Backstory: Elisa was an older sister to a loving family living a relatively normal life, except for the occasional odd invention her father made now and then and having a rather supportive and understanding boyfriend. That was until the sightings of "cyptos" more often became attacks, with soon much more dangerous ones coming. When she was fourteen, she was selected to be part of the Shifter Collar program and so ended up becoming one the world's defenders against the monsters.

Unfortunately, it slowly started taking its toll on her. First was nearly seeing her brother killed. Next was the death of her parents. She was devastated at their deaths and only barely made it through thanks to her boyfriend. The last straw was when she wasn't able to save her boyfriend at the hands of a monster. All hell broke loose as she rampaged, destroying things around her as she tried to kill his murderer. Other Shifter Collar users as tried to stop her but many got killed. Only when the last Shifter Collar user figured out the portal creation side effect did it end, with him sending her to another universe.

She spent the next few in this other universe, a world where humans were long gone and animals evolved without magical ones but were nonetheless dangerous. Clouded by anger, she trained herself to get stronger, to get back at the world for putting her in the Shifter Collar program some day. One day, there was an odd distortion in the area and thanks to it, she was able to figure out how to create a portal and arrive back in her home world.

Upon arriving there, she was immediately met with her now sixteen year old brother and his girlfirend, both of whom were users of Shifter Collars. After a battle, they retreated while she decided that she'd use the monsters as well as her own powers to completely destroy the world. The HQ was smart enough to evacuate all the nearby cities as she continued her rampage again. Her plans were nearly halted several times, with the last one leading to her sending her brother's girlfriend into another universe.

Thankfully, because of that, she came back strong enough to defeat her and finally coming to her senses at seeing her brother's reunion with his girlfriend. She briefly helped the pair in getting rid of the one causing all the monsters to attack but she was still arrested. Her brother reluctantly agreed with sending her to a high security prison, but not before Elisa profusely apologized for what she's done. She stayed quietly in prison, believing wholeheartedly she deserved it, until she was taken by DOTO. Now she has a chance to make things right.
  • Other:
    • Shifter Collars are a piece of technology that uses reality stones to allow the user to change into different forms. The original ten collars, one of which is Elisa's collar, are now called Alpha Collars, as mentioned. The current collars use a specialized inhibitor/splicer. Now, instead of one all-powerful form, the collars let the wearer turn into a total of five forms, each of them with a different focus. The appearance of each form is largely based on the wearer's preference. The reason for the limited powered forms is because of her breakdown thoe three years ago.
    • Her bracelet was given to her by her late boyfriend, which she holds dear.

Well everything seems fine so far, though to note- The roleplay would open just as the Midnight Palace DOTO Branch recruited the Player Characters. So, you can Establish your Character and their situation in your First post, plus their reactions to the Opportunity presented them.

Though regarding Seth & Elisa, just how potentially versatile are their abilities? Just for clarity's sake, as "Instant Expert" and "Spacetime Shenanigans" have a lot of potential applications. Note, this is not a Nerf Request, this is really just for Clarity.

But yeah, I can set up the Discussion thread with this number.

You know, with the new DOOM backstory, Doomguy arguably fits, what with the starting the game breaking free of a sarcophagus he was sealed away in. Heh. Surprisingly tempting. At least do to no small part of the fact that my brain has been in DOOM mode all week despite only having access to the new DOOM for a single day.

Though I suppose being considered bad by demons, may not be what you had in mind.

Then it would be DOTO testing him, making sure he's truly good & worthy of assistance.

Oh? She can actually use that ability? I thought they'd make her unable to because, well, she could escape or something (not that she would) but now that I think about it, the Law Control would already restrict its use...

As for applications, it can only open portals to other various universes and other planes/universe within that universe but not locations within a universe/realm. As an example, she can't make a portal from America to Paris but she can make one to hell. But she can't like make a portal to a spot in the realm (in this example, hell) where if she made another portal in hell back to Earth it'd be Paris. No, she'd still have to travel all the way to an area in hell where opening a portal would lead to Paris.

Does that make sense? I feel like I made it a bit convoluted.

Well yeah, she tries to run off and the Law Control drags her back. Though I actually expected more shenanigan with the Spacetime Portals then that. But yeah, open portals between correlating spots, makes sense.
