[up]

The Young Gun differs from his counterpart The Gunfighter Wannabe in that he actually has what it takes to be a gunslinger, but just needs a little training/experience/maturity in order to get up to speed. The Gunfighter Wannabe, by contrast, lacks the talent or temperament to make it as a gunslinger and his attempt to try to make a name for himself despite the warnings of his elders generally doesn't end well.

What this tells me is that the quote is basically the opposite of Young Gun and should probably be pulled. You got the go-ahead from me on that one.

The page quote on Ring of Power used to be this:

"It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And Nine. Nine Rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else, desire power. For within these Rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race."

Now Dravencour expanded it by whole other paragraph, because apparently the quote wasn't long enough already:

"It began with the forging of the Great Rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And Nine. Nine Rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else, desire power. For within these Rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race.
"But they were all of them deceived, for another Ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged, in secret, a Master Ring to control all others. And into this Ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life. One Ring to rule them all."

Apart from the fact that this is much too long for a page quote, I don't even think any part of this makes a good page quote, because the chararcteristics and the backstory of the magic rings in The Lord of the Rings are highly specific to that book. A good page quote should focus on things that magic rings in fiction have in common, not what is unique to one specific example.

Unfortunately, Quotes.Ring Of Power does not offer a solution, because the only quote there is also a long quote from The Lord of the Rings. Any suggestions?

Let's just say and leave it at that.

I added a quote to Quotes.Beast In The Maze. Would this snippet of it be suitable for the main page?

[...]here, among the paths of the comical field, they could not tell where the danger lay; nor could they run directly away from their pursuer, for every path twisted, came to a dead end or turned back on itself. For all they knew, they might be running straight toward this unknown enemy, the dread of whom clutched at their hearts more direly with every moment that passed.

Also, for the lengthier version of the quote on the quotes page, where is a good place to start the quote?

    the quote
[El-ahrairah and Rabscuttle] had supposed it would be easy to get out, but they soon found that it was nothing of the kind. They had no idea which way to go and wandered up and down the green paths until they felt quite bewildered.
It was during one of their puzzled halts that El-ahrairah became sure of something of which he had already been half aware for some time past. There was some other creature in the comical field as well as themselves—someone on the move like them. He could hear it: now far off; now, so it seemed, close by.
[…] He and Rabscuttle remained perfectly still, staring at each other. They both felt alarmed.
"Should we join it, do you think?" asked El-ahrairah after a while. "It might be able to show us the way out."
"Don't make any mistake, master," replied Rabscuttle. "I don't know who or what it is, but I know it's searching for us, and if it finds us it means to kill us. We're being hunted."
They both began to run then: a panic flight, one way and another, not knowing where they were going. It was like a nightmare, a flight without direction or purpose, against all rabbit nature. For as you all know, in the normal way a rabbit knows where the danger lies or where the enemy is, and runs in the opposite direction. But here, among the paths of the comical field, they could not tell where the danger lay; nor could they run directly away from their pursuer, for every path twisted, came to a dead end or turned back on itself. For all they knew, they might be running straight toward this unknown enemy, the dread of whom clutched at their hearts more direly with every moment that passed. Up and down, back and forth, they ran, feeling not only helplessness and terror but also growing exhaustion.
Tales from Watership Down, "The Story of the Comical Field"

I originally only put the last paragraph. Then I felt it needed more context, so I added the part before it, starting from "There was some other creature in the comical field". Then I felt the part before that would help in establishing the maze setting, so I added that too.

Is this overkill, or do people unfamiliar with the work find it helpful?

The quote for Literally Shattered Lives only mentions getting frozen, not the shattering.

The quote in Abusive Parents is rather obtuse. There's plenty of clearer alternatives from the Quotes/ subpage. I like the ones from Ultimate Muscle and Alice in Wonderland.

[up] Yeah, that's not the clearest quote because to me it implies that having kids will make you miserable more than an abusive parent, although the fact that he's saying this to his child is pretty harsh.

@LordGro: The quote for Ring of Power is definitely too long, but other than that it's fine. Revert the edit until someone finds a better suggestion.

[up] [Re: Ring of Power] I was going to suggest this quote which I discovered in the example section.

Suleiman-bin-Daoud was strong. Upon the third finger of the right hand he wore a ring. When he turned it once, Afrits and Djinns came Out of the earth to do whatever he told them. When he turned it twice, Fairies came down from the sky to do whatever he told them; and when he turned it three times, the very great angel Azrael of the Sword came dressed as a water-carrier, and told him the news of the three worlds,—Above—Below—and Here.

Ageless Birthday Episode's quote was changed without permission, and, as far as I can tell, the new source for the quote is a fanon/concepts wiki that might not be a tropable work. Permission to revert?

Merchandise-Driven page quote has been changed from it's longstanding quote from Shortpacked! to one about Jurassic Park with no source with the reason being "Swapping quote to avoid duplicating the image source".

Should it be changed back or is the new quote better?

Someone expanded the quote on Jerk Jock to this:

"In 80s teen movies, if a character is sporting a letter jacket, it might as well be the letter swastika, because he is going to be committing crimes against humanity. They don't just start fights, harass fellow students and give wedgies like they do in real high schools. During the 80s, being on a school sports team meant that you were willing to rape women, assault people in public and endanger the lives of your weaker victims to a degree bordering on attempted murder."

Is everything after "humanity." Really necessary?

[up] I did a Google search and... nothing. The page is literally the only source I found for that quote. Unless there's a slight variation in punctuation or it's from an obscure print article, but I can't find a damn thing.

I'm tempted to cut it on principle.

[up],[up][up] I did the same thing, same results. I even went to the website for the magazine that it is allegedly from and manually checked all of the articles that showed up by searching for Jurassic Park 3. No go, though technically it could be from an article that they never bothered to add to the site.
