I've asked this in the chat before and never got an answer, so I'm guessing the people who know were just not on, so I'm asking here:

What's the deal with the FE (specifically the FE 3 H) Fallers? I'm still trying to decide whether or not Star's Litwick, Bernadetta is just named after the specific character or is ACTUALLY her and I feel like I am lacking the information to make an informed decision.

Due to Surtr shenanigans miscellaneous FE characters were brought to the OU, and then after he was defeated they mostly returned back to their home verses, save for mostly the ones that came from verses where they bit it. So it's basically up to you if it turns out that your Bernie is a 3H!Bermie whether or not they've decided to stay or if they originally ended up being the main dish in the Bonfire of Gronder Field.

On a different note since it would appear that we're in agreement about how Burst Hearts are going to work and I have a FAQ bit to update, I'd assume that Burst Hearts are definitely not something newbies can use?

Mementos Sidequest - The Conspirator

I've been wanting to get more involved with the P5 subplot and here is my offer of contribution. A sidequest that may in fact deal with the Conspiracy in a more indirect way.

The basics is that the Thieves get a job to help someone who is having trouble sleeping, she swears her old boyfriend is stalking her and she can see him out of the corner of her eye quite frequently.

The thieves enter the Metaverse and find that it's not a shadow situation, he is quite literally there, manipulating the Metaverse in much the same way they do.

The idea of the sidequest other than to provide some more Phantom Thieves content is to hint at what the Conspiracy may be up to. I may need more work on this and I'll need a dedicated discussion of how we're to make this work properly.

But who'd be interested?

I am trying to figure out how they relate to the Conspiracy? School-affiliated? Or a mercenary of some kind?

So for Burst Hearts if I'm understanding things correctly we have decided:

  • Not for newbies.
  • Naturally rare.
  • Must be obtained in a community approved manner similar to Mega Items (ie. It can't just be "X was just skipping down the street one day and tripped over a Burst Heart")
  • One Burst Heart per character.
  • Using them properly requires training in order to handle the fusion. (Both Burst Heart mon and human must be in sync, similar to how Trainer and mon must be in sync to use Mega Evolution without bad stuff happening.)
  • The mon in the Burst Heart can evolve.
  • There are those shitty artificial Burst Hearts that are like an addictive drug, but those are villain only.
  • It is possible to free the Burst Heart mons from the Burst Hearts, but we haven't actually decided what that entails yet.
  • The exact process of making true Burst Hearts is unknown.
  • Presumably in the majority of cases PCs can only get Burst Hearts of non-legendaries.

What I have in mind is sort of mercenary like, an experiment of sorts into the mechanics of the Metaverse tossed onto someone ultimately expendable. If it works out it works out, if it doesn't well no big loss onto the next shmuck.

What would you suggest?

Also agreed on Burst heart, all solid there.

Burst Heart content looks good to me.

And speaking thereof! I've got a character pitch for ya!

Name: Emerald "Emer" Halepaʻa
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Alolan
Appearance: Emer is tall and tanned with a toned build, an alliterative description that isn't particularly surprising given her parents are from Alola and she grew up in the other tropical island chain of the Orange Islands. She usually carries herself with an upbeat and restless body language: standing straight, occasionally wobbling side to side in quasi-dancing and looking at everything she can with her brilliant green eyes (her namesake) that she keeps behind a pair of large round-lens glasses. Emer hasn't had a haircut since she began travelling, leading to a big wavy and almost fluffy 'mane' of black hair. Her clothing sensibilities tend towards clothing suited to travel; t-shirts in various colors and designs, sturdy jeans or cargo pants and strong practical footwear. Her usual color scheme is mostly dark greys and black however in the year and a half since getting her Burst Heart she's incorporated sandy beige as a highlight color. While naturally when in full on Burst Warrior mode Emer bears an outfit immediately and obviously reminiscent of a Midday Lycanroc, she has also been known to utilize only a fraction of power from time to time, gaining only partial traits of her companion in the crystal.
Organization Ties: The Black Beautifly
Region of origin: South Mandarin Island, Orange Islands
Backstory: Emerald was barely six years old when she got her first Pokemon; Her parents thought it would be a good idea to get her something to connect back to their heritage in the isles of Alola and at a fairly high cost managed to get a Rockruff for the young Emer. They intended the pair to be lifelong companions to each other and in a way they were correct. When she was eleven, Emerald set out on the traditional kid's Pokemon adventure but of course this was 2011 and thus at the same time she set out a certain group of adventuring trainers fresh off fighting two Glitches and resolving the creation of an alternate timeline was also in the region. The chaos caused by their arrival and subsequent adventures was something that Emer was capable of brushing off as just fun antics and as she started travelling around the isles she became enamored with the wild stories the locals were telling of their encounters with the J-Team. It seemed, though, that there would be no fated meeting between this young trainer with a foreign Pokemon (that, granted, did not meta-wise exist at the time) and the now-famous/infamous J-Team. Additionally, it seemed that Emerald's attempt to tackle the Orange Island League was doomed to failure because Rockruff learns neither Water Gun nor Surf, two mandatory moves for the Mikan Island Gym. Faced with this barrier that required at most simply catching a new Pokemon for her team, Emer instead decided it was a sign that rigid following of the Gym route just wasn't her style and spent the rest of her time exploring the islands, always somehow avoiding getting swept up in the J-Team like so many others since have done.

And that was her life for the next nine years, more or less; after finishing a tour of the isles and getting a taste for travel and adventure she decided to set out to other regions as a backpacker. She's been to a lot of places: Alola in the latter half of 2011, she lost some time in Sinnoh during 2012, a trip to Kalos in 2013 that saw her having more than one scuffle with Team Flare even if she wasn't the one to ultimately take them down, Galar in 2014... While she has been to a lot of places, there was always more of the world to see. But then tragedy struck in 2019.

Palka was getting old and worse he was getting sick. Emer had always been lean in terms of budget; her parents were willing to bankroll just about what she needed for her travels but what Palka needed was beyond them at the time. Emerald's parents requested that she come home, maybe saving up money would help at least make the now-Lycanroc comfortable before the end but Emer's desire to wander was too strong and she began seeking alternate options. At some point she started drinking, perhaps because she had started to find the welcoming doors of the Black Beautifly in her travels... She made a deal, she remembers. Palka would always be at her side, always a source of strength she could draw upon in the form of a Burst Heart; she doesn't remember what she had to give up for such a mercy. She continued her travels, frequently finding herself at that bar with the barman. She still hopes one day to meet the J-Team that she idolized in her childhood...

Mon (singular):

Species: Lycanroc (Midday)
Nickname: Palka ("Named for the Sinnoese god of the ocean. The OI has a lot of influence from mainland [Pokepan] culture and I decided to embrace that.")
Gender: Male
Ability: Keen Eye
Personality/Bio: It might not be obvious due to the lack of physical presence, but Palka seems to have accepted his new state as a spirit inside of a crystal matrix pretty readily. He's always been loyal and protective of his trainer and now that the two occasionally act as one that loyalty has been very important.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Hey, hey. It's a George Orwell media plot, but with a setting update to reflect newer realities. Posted for further reference.

The Pitch

The short of it is, it's a whole-setting reference to Animal Farm and SCP-1845 (with The Animals of Farthing Wood and Papers, Please for flavor) but with their core conflict ripped from headlines about 5 years ago. Basically, what if both these fictional polities are real in the Pokéverse and are in conflict with one another?

Synopsis

Our setting is in an abandoned yet somehow still functional farm next to a forest studded with castle ruins in Rural Galar. The farm had at one point been managed by a family of humans, but they've since abandoned the property. The smallholding and its nearby forest had not been managed by humans since 1940 and the local government treats it largely as an afterthought since it's been overrun by especially aggressive wild pokémon.

However, the farm is still active and is home to a regimented authoritarian regime composed entirely of pokémon. The observant will notice a scary pattern of repression resembling the [Soviet Union] and, to a certain extent, [The New Russia]. They are in an active (though not openly hostile) conflict with the residents of the nearby Woodland, who organized themselves under a different system of government. Instead, the forest's leaders style themselves as monarchs and nobles based on [Saxon]- and later [Norman]-era human feudal patterns, though they've since adopted a degree of parliamentary democracy as well.

The two pokémon nations are ideological opposites and do not like each other very much. Time and again, the two hermit micronations have tried to undermine each other without provoking conflict, sending ideological material to sway the other's inhabitants to their way of thinking.

A few events that have marked their frosty relationships are as follows:

About the only things that they have in common is that they pattern themselves after human governments while at the same time being very wary of humans intruding into their homes.

This is meant to be a more recurring plot element, the subject of repeated raids and explorations, than a singular event. The regimes might shift in power balance over time and there might be one grand finale where they are finally overturned or reformed. But that won't be until much later.

What I Need?

  • A general gist of whether people are interested in playing out such a plot
  • Sensitivity readers; I'll need advice on how to handle these elements with tact. Due to the setting update, I must make sure that I and other players don't trivialize anything unpleasant and heavy.
  • Active participants. I'll be posting a "so you want to design a character" doc for this mediaplot.

     The Nations

The Farm

The Farm's pokémon, once livestock to the Jones family, revolted after the alcoholic then-owner of the farm's abuses proved too much to bear. Unfortunately, over the course of their management of the farm, the leaders of their rebellion, a group of Pig Pokémon, eventually began abusing their powers. They transformed the microstate into a totalitarian nightmare based on a warped version of ideologies humans would recognize.

A local writer, horrified by what he observed and noting parallels to another political upheaval in a faraway region, immortalized the chronicles of its early history in a book most saw as a satirical fable. Today, the farm still stands. The aggressive pokémon of its military have fended off all trainers that have tried to encroach on their territory. The only humans ever tolerated on their territory are couriers and teamsters, who frequently leave behind or pick up crates full of supplies whose deliveries appear to have been ordered by someone who lives there. They are, in fact, ordered by a Porygon, who lives in a crude yet somehow Internet-compatible punch-card computer built out of odd parts by the Pokémon residents some time in the 1960s.

The farm is governed under an authoritarian regime. It alternates between being an oligarchical single-party republic under the appointed Politburo and a totalitarian dictatorship, with the latter being what it is at present. It is currently ruled by a smug, cocky, yet intimidating Boltund. The farm itself is a disturbing caricature of an Authoritarian capital, with many of its open spaces and buildings decorated with sigils of their governing ideology, Pokémonism, first devised by a grumpig named Old Major who they hold in reverence. Statues of past leadership made from junk are common. Entry into the farm itself is commandeered by a difficult-to-navigate bureaucratic system.

The Farm's inhabitants have a strong dislike for Legendaries. They are considered abominations little different from Glitches and any attempt at worshipping them like the humans do has historically been seen as something akin to cultic brainwashing. Despite this, the politburo tolerates an established "church" dedicated to the three legendary birds that is staffed by corviknights. The Farm's ideologies also look down on non-bird bipeds, and many facultative and obligate biped pokémon are forced to go on all fours unless absolutely necessary.

The Forest

The forest was a nearby common land next to the farm that has been inhabited by wild pokémon since time immemorial. It used to be the grounds of a Medieval castle and a surrounding village, and remains of the castle and other structures like an old church could still be seen poking out of the trees.

Prior, the Pokémon lived as they did in the wild in other places, but in the past century or so, they've since turned into yet another society patterned after a human system of government. At first, the pokémon in the forest fell under the rule of aggressive chieftains from elsewhere, who swore to "maintain order" and protect the other inhabitants from 'hostiles' (wandering trainers) in a manner similar to [Anglo-Saxon]-style feudalism. That is, the privileged chieftains took the pyroar's share of the resources and were often buried in them when they died.

They were later overthrown by a family of Vulpices from Kalos who... let's be honest, didn't actually do much to change anything other than add a further layer of pomp to the whole thing. They styled themselves after Human monarchs and eventually holed themselves up in the ruined castle, in the process creating a complex [European] Feudal state based on the [Norman] model that once prevailed among the humans of Galar. They also established an Xerneist-Arceun-style religion, though requests for communion with the mother church have been awkwardly denied. In response to their neighbor's alleged disdain for religion, they host regular burnings of Old Major's works in front of the castle and chapel ruins.

In good times and bad, the Vulpine kingdom (ruled by a succession of Foxmon royals) have always held sway among the mons of the forest. As long as they kept trainers from catching them, they continued to rule by Grace of Arceus. Yet the forest's government has in fact changed over the years. Since the rule of King Eugen II, the voice of "the humble peasantry" has been valued by the monarchs. Citizens of the forest are allowed a say in the House of Commons, a council the King created to better mimic the government of Galar. Although the King is still head of the kingdom and is hereditary, in practice, the king always listens to the House of Commons when they vote on something. The current king, Tristram III the Friendly (a Thievul), is disengaged in politics except when the neighbors decide to be their unpleasant selves again.

The forest itself is treated as a protected area by the Galarian government and trainers are usually not allowed to go there without prior permission. This was, in fact, the product of a "treaty" the king's indeedees drafted and sent to the local government, under the guise of "anonymous concerned citizens' groups" who want to preserve the historical and natural beauty of the area.

     Inhabitants

The pokémon residents of the Farm and the Forest are patterned after actual animals that can be found in English farms and forests, though they needn't be pokémon that appear in the Galar dex. The farm's residents include mons from the yamper, snubbull, houndoom, wooloo, rookidee, tauros, miltank, spoink, tepig, gogoat, mareep, ponyta, mudbray, farfetch'd and torchic lines. Members of the Politburo can only be dogmons or pigmons, while the clergy can only be rookidee.

The forest meanwhile has this and pokémon analogous to the residents of Animals of Farthing Wood (morpeko, skwovet, swinub, pidove, pidgey, hoothoot, fletchling, rattata, pichu, seviper, floatzel, sentret, indeedee, scorbunny, patrat, and sawsbuck lines, possibly others). The royal family is a mixed line comprising foxmons (nickit, vulpix, and zorua).

In general, scientists have agreed that most of the forests' pokémon represent Galarian natives, even if their taxons appear elsewhere. The exceptions are the zorua and the vulpices, which we as the audience know are invaders.

     Meta: Culture and Symbols

The Farm residents largely speak a variant of Monese that, when translated, sounds like George Orwell's Newspeak, like it's been stripped of words on purpose. Their regime is in turn patterned after the Soviet Union and, to some extent, Russia under Vladimir Putin (the boltund leader is himself based on him specifically, as the dogs in Animal Farm were based on the KGB, which Putin was a former member of.) Their symbol is a combination of the Horn and Hoof (from Animal Farm) and a composite bird figure with the heads of Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres (based on the Russian coat of arms). The Politburo and military and decorate themselves with military caps and other accessories associated with cliché militaristic regimes.

The Forest's residents speak in Ye Olde Butchered Pokémonese or modern domestic monese with an antiquated/pompous register. Their culture is based on the Government of the U.K., only themed after foxes. Their accessories and/or clothes are based on a mishmash of renfaire items, since they're not molded after the Anglo-Saxons and Normans in exclusion and are pretty close to the modern UK in government anyway.

Superhero Time

  • Name: Robbie Reynolds/Virivolt/Viridian Vikavolt
  • Age: 17
  • Region of Origin: Orre
  • Ethnicity: Latine
  • Appearance: Around 5'8 in height, gold eyes, thick brown hair, angular features and a lanky build, slightly scruffy stubble befitting a teenager. Superhero identity is a henshin style hero in Vikavolt like armor, largely black bodysuit and viridian coloured armor style
  • Backstory:
Robbie’s life has been quiet, or would have been had it not been for the constant world ending threats, villain teams, and young heroes entering the scene to save the day. For him, he just wanted a quiet job working at his dad’s auto shop, he’s got a few years until college and would rather if him and his Pikachu could just have a quiet life.

Unfortunately fate seems to have different plans for him as one night when cleaning up, a meteorite landed nearby, inside revealing a odd Vikavolt shaped metallic object, which proceeded to bond itself with his spine and grant him power in the form of advanced armor.

Robbie quickly recognized what this meant and with his Pikachu and Magneton have taken up the mantles of superheroes, saving Orre and the world where they can.

Robbie can best be described as eager but with a slight temper, years of constant nonsense has left him a little short in patience, knowing that it seems to be a cycle and his home may be threatened once again. Despite his exhausted attitude towards life, he’s more than friendly and even tries to project a friendly face as Virivolt, figuring a quippy superhero offsets the potential firepower the suit keeps suggesting, and the idea that he might seriously hurt someone worries him.

Mons
  • Species: Pikachu
  • Nickname: Benjamin
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Static
  • Personality: Ben's a curious sort but also somewhat lazy, preferring to sleep all day if he can on top of several car batteries. When called into action he'll attempt to make excuses until he can't avoid it any longer, at which point he'll want it done quickly.

  • Species: Magnezone
  • Nickname: Robo
  • Gender: Genderless - Goes by Male Pronouns
  • Ability: Analytic
  • Personality: Robo’s a more serious sort of individual who prefers real science he can actually study, figuring that the world he can observe and study is more interesting than anything purely theoretical unless it can be proved. The Virivolt artifact just drove him mad knowing that this was something he couldn’t easily explain.

Alright, time to splay out ideas in public!

Burst Hearts? In My Pokémon RP?

Now that we've established that Burst Hearts are back on the table, I would like to clear two I had in mind.

The first - a Sneasel, for Misaki, to be gained later on. I plan on having her dive into some ruins to help out a certain trio of adventuring individuals and finding it there.

The second, well...

J-Dan Alts, or Yet Another Shaun

In the interest of putting them here, have J-Dan Shaun and Ace.

Note the names just being Makoto Yuki's Personas was completely coincidental.

CW: References to death, general disturbing content

Name: Orpheus

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: Unovan-Sinnohan

Sexuality: ???

Appearance: Orpheus is a tall, lanky young man. He has an androgynous face and albaster-white, freckled skin. His hair is black and stops just above his upper back, kept in a tight braid. He has stormy blue-grey eyes, and several faint scars.

Orpheus dresses in a loose, white vest, held on with leather belts. Over top of this, he wears a gray duster, with leather reinforcments. His arms are wrapped in bandages, over which are two black leather vambraces; gray pants and black shin-length boots. Both his ears are pierced, with multiple silver hoops. And the final, most...odd part of the ensemble is a hood made from the pelt of a Vulpix, complete with taxidermied head (similar to the hoods of the New Vegas Casear's Legion or the Stormcloak Officer's Helmet, if you need a visual reference).

Organizational Ties: J-Dan

Region of Origin: Sinnoh

Personality: Orpheus doesn't talk to others much, instead randomly rambling to himself(?). He's a very unstable, sado-masochistic individual, not exactly a good conversationalist. But he does his job as an enforcer, hunter, and assassin very well - all for his grace Kai.

Backstory: While J-Dan!Shaun wasn't a member of the J-Team during the events in Orre, he was a blossoming trainer in Sinnoh. His life pre-debut (i.e. before February 2017) was more or less identical to the OU, with a few exceptions - Shaun beat the Elite Four and Cynthia on his first try, never hatched Jasper, and never left Sinnoh. Instead, he stayed, still hunting down Kirai, the poacher who brutalized Lightning and abandoned Jessica. When Shaun finally found him...he snapped. Without Gogie to rein him in, Shaun's anger consumed him. Shaun successfully murdered Kirai and all off the poacher's Pokémon, but at a high cost. Every one of his Pokémon, except for Ace and Ruby, died. Tsunami and Lightning were killed in battle, but Jessica had to be Mercy Killed. Cradling Jessica's lifeless body in his arms, Shaun realized what he had done and mentally broke. He took Jessica's body, leaving an injured, defeated Ace and Ruby behind. With too many painful memories reawakened by Sinnoh, Shaun sought out a group that would give him some purpose - J-Dan. He joined without a second thought, not even needing Kai to sway him (not that it would matter, since he’s a Soul of Silver). When asked for his name, he simply replied "Orpheus, your grace".

Mons:

Species: Drapion-BURST

Nickname: Stalker

Gender: Male

Ability: Battle Armor

Personality: Imprisoned in an artifical Burst Heart, Stalker is just another tool for Orpheus. Not that he minds - years rotting away in an abandoned (Pokefutures?) base left him itching for anything to give him purpose. Orpheus offered him just that.

Species: Houndoom

Nickname: Cerberus

Gender: Male

Ability: Flash Fire

Personality: Another failed experiment "rescued" by Orpheus. Essentially, a dead Houndroom was tossed into a Cara Liss-esque machine with two other Houndooms, and it turns out you can in fact create a soul. A three-headed Houndoom, it turns out, has the exact same strength as a normal Houndoom. Abandoned as a failed project, Cerberus was taken in by Orpheus. Fiercely loyal, he'll defend Orpheus at any cost, as he feels he must repay his life-debt.

Species: Type: Null

Nickname: Chimera

Gender: None

Ability: RKS System

Personality: Unknown. Chimera (or, as they were designated, "Unit Zero") is the newest addition to Orpheus's team, and hasn't seen much in combat. But since they're still classified as a Type: Null, it can be inferred that they need that control helmet - or Orpheus isn't willing to take the helmet off.

Name: Thanatos

Age: Looks to be mid-20s, mentally early 30s, biologically 9 years old.

Gender: Male

Ethnicity: Sinnohan

Sexuality: ???

Appearance: Tall, sinewy - muscles of a sprinter. Wild black hair, with a streak of red hanging down above his eyes. Pale, but not stark white, skin. Narrow, piercing red eyes, a vertical scar on his right eye (when looking at him. From his POV his left eye has the scar.)

Thanatos wears a black tailcoat over a crimson cotton shirt, along with gray denim jeans and black hiking boots. He wears a Mystic Water around his neck. and in his hair he keeps a bloodstained Empoleon feather tucked, by his left ear.

Organizational Ties: The Resistance

Region of Origin: Sunyshore

Personality: Much like OU!Ace, Thanatos has a tactical mind. But he is much more ruthless and vicious. Revenge corrupted Ace, became his only goal. Intellect that could've furthered man and mon alike now studies weak points in anatomy. Thanatos is certainly more stable than Orpheus, but his psyche could use some help. But much like Orpheus, he's good at what he does - working for the Resistance and waiting for his chance to strike.

Backstory: J-Dan!Ace's heart was shattered into a million pieces after the fight against Kirai. The love of his life, dead. All but one of his best friends, dead. Shaun might as well have died, for it was not Shaun that ran away from him. Ace sank into a deep depression after returning to the Sapphire house. Ruby didn’t come back with him, as she simply wandered into the Eterna Forest, never to be seen again. He spent weeks barely living, eating and drinking when told and roosting by Tsunami's grave. Eventually he realized that he had to live for his friends, and one goal stoked the flames of his heart - revenge. He had heard of J-Dan, of course, but didn't realize Shaun had joined until he did some digging. Ace began to prepare, exploring ruins until he found a Pokémon-to-human armband. Now calling himself Thanatos, he joined the Resistance armed with a team of Pokémon and a glaive, intent on taking his pound of flesh, no matter how long it takes.

Castelia City Criminals, or How to Keep Orpheus in One Place

Obviously, when Orpheus arrives, he can't just start murdering people. Meta-wise, that's not something that works in the RP. But of course, when Orpheus was sent to the OU, he was under orders not to kill civilians. They are, after all, no threat to the great and powerful J-Dan.

But he was only told not to kill.

The plan, essentially (once I get there), is for OU!Shaun, Thanatos, and Orpheus to be locked in a game of cat-and-mouse in the city of Castelia. To that end, I need a driving force to provide a reason for them to stay.

A man who looks just like OU!Shaun, popular J-Teamer and League particpant, attacking civilians and sending them to the hospital sounds fitting. The civilians, obviously, wouldn't be in any real danger. No amputations or organ removal or anything like that. It's about the implication it's about turning a J-Teamer into a percieved criminal and thus drawing them out. But Shaun would take matters into his own hands and leave the J-Team out of it.

That's about all I had to share. I'd appreciate any comments, concerns, etc. on the matters presented.
