YMMV / Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees
    • There is an actual porno called Edward Penishands.
    • Porn studios who make personal porn films for couples really exist.
  • Awesome Music:
    • Live's "Hold Me Up" during the pivotal scene. The music climaxes just as...well...you get the idea.
    • Climax Blues Band's "I Love You" at the end. Doubles as a Heartwarming Moment.
    • The equally appropriate use of "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver" by Primus over the opening scene.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Plenty, but special mention goes to "Nigga Rich Productions."
Delaney: Yeah, well Dreamworks was taken.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Brandon (Justin Long) is only in two scenes, yet is easily the most popular character in the movie, so much so that it retroactively became part of The View Askewniverse just to include his character in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The scenes where Zack is gushing over how lucrative porn is when you recognize the cast can come off as Innocently Insensitive after watching Pam & Tommy, in which another character played by Seth Rogen tries capitalizing on Pamela Anderson's sex tape and is shown to have caused her a lot of grief by doing so.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "Han Solo never had no sex with Princess Leia in the Star War!" Kylo Ren would like a word...
  • Hollywood Homely: Are we really supposed to buy Elizabeth Banks as gawky and awkward?
  • Squick:
    • "That chick frosted me like I was a fucking cake!" Poor, poor Deacon.
    • Lester bending over while completely naked.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: Zack and Miri's sex scene is considered by many viewers to be more romantic than most sex scenes in mainstream cinema.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • This film came at the tail end of an era where you could theoretically become wealthy with a home made sex tape. With the expansion of the internet in full flux and adult content, both professional and amateur, widely available, this doesn’t seem to be the case now.
    • The numerous pop culture references that the characters make to The '70s and The '80s makes this a rare example of a work that dates itself with what was nostalgic at its time. Many post-Millennial viewers may find themselves wondering where any references to the 90s are, not realizing that the movie was released only nine years after that decade had ended.
