YMMV / Red Earth

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Is considered to have some of the best sprite art of The '90s, combining unique designs and incredibly fluid animation to bring its setting to life.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Tessa. Even with her home game not receiving hardly any recognition, as well as only two playable appearances in two other games, she still remains one of Capcom's most beloved characters for her good looks and endearing personality.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Leo's a lion man that wields a large sword. A few years later, Digimon would introduce Leomon, a lion man that wields a large sword. They even resemble each other. (Both characters are a Captain Ersatz of the old Toku hero Lion-maru.). And then another fighting game would introduce a lion-themed swordsman named Leo...
  • Nausea Fuel: Overlapping with Nightmare Fuel. The dismemberments are this in general, but one example takes the cake. Upon defeat, the recipient in question is split vertically into halves while the exposed body parts would actually show very detailed organs and anatomy straight out of a biology book if they weren't hit out of the screen.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Scion's true form has a giant brain burst out from his back, resulting in his face becoming grotesquely distended and his limbs limply hanging beside him like deflated balloons.
  • Popular with Furries: Thanks to his cursed lion head and muscular physique, Leo gets a lot of fan art among furry fans regardless of whether they know of his source game or not.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The animation quality is highly detailed. Fun Fact: The arcade system board Capcom used for this game was the CP System III, which would later be used for Street Fighter III. If you know what that game's animation is like, it should give you a hint on how good Red Earth's animation is.
