- Alternative Character Interpretation: After Fallon finds his friend Sykes dead in the sewer, he grieves his fallen friend and when the henchman gets mad over the situation and blames Fallon, the latter holds the former's head under water and went into an angry rant about complainers and ended up drowning him. Did he intentionally kill him or was he so mixed in grief and rage, he lost control of himself?
- Crosses the Line Twice: Fallon drowning one of his own men for mouthing off to him? Creepy. Fallon delivering deliciously hammy monologue that only Denis Leary can give you while he's at it? Hilarious.
- Cult Soundtrack: The movie's soundtrack contains collaborations of hip-hop and rock/metal acts—such as Helmet and House of Pain, Teenage Fanclub and De La Soul, Biohazard and Onyx, Faith No More and Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., and Cypress Hill collaborating with Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam on two different songs.
- Evil Is Cool: Denis Leary as the Faux Affably Evil Deadpan Snarker Big Bad.
- Love to Hate: Fallon is a ruthless, Ax-Crazy drug lord, but the Faux Affably Evil Deadpan Snarker performance Denis Leary is entertaining to watch.
- Retroactive Recognition: Comedian Adam Carolla, in his first foray into film, served as a stand-in for Michael DeLorenzo, who played Teddy, despite the height difference between the two men (Michael is 5'10, while Adam is 6'2). Carolla was friends with the assistant director.
- Unintentional Period Piece: While riding around on the RV on the way to the boxing match, the inside has a TV with an NES and Zapper. Around the time of the film's release, the system was at the end of its lifespan with the SNES reigning supreme.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Teddy was portrayed as a scared and poor victim who was afraid for his life when the four guys try to help him. When Fallon and his men catch up with him, he was pleading for his life as he ended up getting killed, portraying him as crossing the Moral Event Horizon, evident when it shows the reaction of the four in shocked horror. But considering he was a criminal himself and he stole money from his boss (whom he had to know was not going to take it well), he brought it on himself.
