  • Broken Base:
    • Old Ben Rants vs New Ben Rants: Many fans love the new tone the rants following the show's resurrection, as he is more caustic (While Ben was ALWAYS caustic, & more than likely one of the reasons why people are more caustic nowadays, he didn't expect as much in entertainment & was less nitpicky in comparison. His sudden dislike of Phineas and Ferb fits this very perfectly), critical and less biased with nostalgia, where fans from the 2009-2011 era hate his videos past 2012 (with the exception of his Censorship and One Million Moms rants, with the former being one that was written for the original run but was initially scrapped because Ben thought it would be a controversial topic to tackle) for the Flanderization (Before the revival, it was made clear that Ben was exaggerating how he voiced his opinions for comedic relief but starting from the later half of the fourth season, Ben has used this claim as an excuse to turn his personna into a cartoon character, with the mean spirited digs at people who disagree with him amped up to eleven, the shifted focus from ranting on what's wrong with today's society to being overtly comedic, contradicting previous statements, catering to the people who once belittled him for his opinions, and adding in Dead Baby Comedy (Which contradicts his claim that he wanted to keep his videos family-friendly because he wanted to make them, to which kids and adults can watch them). It's up to the viewer to decide which version is better.
    • His video "Are Classic Cartoons Racist?", wherein he defends racist shorts from the past, led to (admittedly overblown) accusations of him himself being racist.
    • His turn to Rule 34 art, his Hotter and Sexier turn, and sudden usage of proper swear words in his videos past 2018.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Looney T. Ben and Negative Nick.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: There are a number of fans that refuse to believe that Ben actually continued his rants series past 2011 or 2012.
  • Growing the Beard: A lot of fans believe that 2011 (When the "Benthelooney" account opened, and he couldn't log back into PuffyZillaman4) is when this happened, as his ranting style had become fleshed out, his scripts were better improvised, the humor grew stronger and Ben's voice had become much clearer. For a while, Ben himself believed that this is when this happened.
  • He Panned It, Now He Sucks!: Many times during his original run, not helping matters by him being firmly behind a Nostalgia Filter.
    • Most noticeably, Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Looney Tunes Shownote , and Pixar (At least in the revival). It got so bad when it came to the latter that he made a video apologizing for the rant and admitted that he was too harsh on the animation studio. He recently revealed after a talk with a friend that he started rewatching some Pixar movies with a more open mind and has started to like a few of them now.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In his 2009 rant on Disney, Ben called out Miley Cyrus for a scantily-clad photoshoot she did for Vanity Fair and for posting racy photos on her Myspace account. Over the course of the following decade, Ben would become notorious for his advocacy of child pornography (see above).
    • In his review of the Transformers Film Series, Ben comments how Tom Kenny's performance as Wheelie sounded like him doing his impersonation of Steve Buscemi. Cue five years later, Steve Buscemi would later land a role as the transformer, Daytrader in Transformers: The Last Knight and even star alongside Tom Kenny himself.
    • In his rant on politics, he said he'll never salute Adventure Time and Regular Show, guess what happened a few years later.
  • It's Popular, Now It Sucks!: During the revival when Ben started to become more well known on YouTube, he started to get a lot more subscribers (some of them, ironically former haters of him); some fans unsubscribed to his channel just for the sake of this trope.
  • Moment of Awesome: Ben Strikes Back
    • Him calling out One Million Moms [1].
  • Pandering to the Fanbase: More like pandering to the commentators in his case over the years (Which in turn had angered older viewers, which caused a large number to stop watching & his rants going through serious Seasonal Rot).
    • One example being Ben cutting back on the Nostalgia Filter in the revival.
    • Confessing he's actually a 2000's kid in his Some Spit 2000's Kids Say video and not a 90's kid.
    • Ben taking a liking to more modern subjects such as My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Gravity Falls.
    • Hating Pixar, although he has taken what was a popular opinion at the time and amped up to eleven by criticizing their work as a whole and admitting that he never liked their movies.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Ben T. Looney's salutes on Adventure Time and Regular Show seemed to help him out a little. As did his apology video for his Pixar rant for being a little harsh on the subject.
    • Ben Tannehill's line of videos: Throwing Water on the Fires, where he revisits former topics he had previously ranted on (Adventure Time, Family Guy, Pixar, etc) and reviews them in a more respectable manner.
