"I Heard" is a Betty Boop short by Max and Dave Fleischer that was released in theaters on September 1, 1933.

Bimbo, Koko and a community of miners are hard at work while Betty Boop is running and performing in her own cafe on site. While in the mines, Bimbo makes a rather strange discovery.

This short features special guest Don Redman and his orchestra providing the music with Don playing the cafe's waiter.

This cartoon marked the last appearance of Bimbo in a theatrical Betty Boop short.

Tropes Used in this Short:

  • Bedsheet Ghost: The ghosts look exactly like this, in fact, one shows that he's a skeleton that wears a ghost shaped sheet over him (which may apply to all of them).
  • Bomb Disposal: The climax is Betty and Bimbo trying to escape from a bomb that the ghosts threw at them.
  • Cartoon Bomb: The standard cartoon bomb design is used.
  • Couldn't Find a Lighter: One of the ghosts uses the lit fuse of the bomb to light a cigar.
  • Dumbwaiter Ride: Betty Boop rides in one that leads from her cafe into the mines.
  • Elevator Gag: Bimbo and Koko's elevator travels straight up it's shaft, as well as traveling in curves, loop-de-looping and moving in a stair climbing fashion diagonally. The elevator let's out from underneath a table in the cafe.
  • Explosive Stupidity: The ghosts should have known that using a lit bomb as a baseball was a bad idea.
  • Expo Label: The dumb waiter (the person) has "dumb waiter" written on his dunce cap, just in case the joke wasn't obvious enough.
  • Expressive Hair: As soon as Betty sees the ghosts, her hair stands up on end.
  • Fully-Clothed Nudity: When Betty is left in her lingerie, she covers her chest in embarrassment.
  • Instant Gravestone: After the ghosts get blown up and blasted into the air Bimbo pulls a lever and mounds in the Earth appear for the ghosts to land in and as soon as they do, Bimbo closes them up and tombstones instantly appear.
  • Mickey Mousing: Horn sounds are used to convey when the ghosts are talking.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: They look like bed sheets and they evidently can be found using a bomb as a baseball in mines.
  • Panty Shot: Besides Betty's lingerie being on full display after her dress falls off, while running with the bomb and tripping, her bloomers can be seen.
  • Punny Name: The "Never Mine" sounds like the common phrase "never mind".
  • Right Out of My Clothes: After Betty's dumb waiter crashes into the ground and on top of Bimbo, her Little Black Dress falls off and ends up being worn by Bimbo, leaving her in her lingerie. After a few seconds of awkwardness, Bimbo hands it back to her and she quickly slips it back on.
  • Visual Pun: When Betty summons the dumb waiter, a dumb waiter comes out (a waiter wearing a dunce cap with a dopey expression).
  • You All Look Familiar: The same dog man miner can be seen over and over again in some shots.
