Eetu ja Konna ("Eetu and Konna") is a Finnish animated film released in 2011, written, directed, and partially animated by Kari Häkkinen. It tells the story of an ordinary boy named Eetu and Konna, a talking frog from a society of civilized frogs located in a nearby pond, who are in danger of having their pond filled to build a parking lot and targeted by American and Russian government agents who discover the frogs' advanced technology.

Provides examples of:

  • 20 Minutes into the Past: The plot (aside from the framing device) takes place around the 80s or 90s, while the movie was released in 2011.
  • Accidental Astronaut: One scene has the titular characters accidentally get in a Russian space shuttle and launch themselves to space.
  • Babies Ever After: The end scene shows that Petu the dog had at least a dozen puppies.
  • Bad Humor Truck: One scene shows the American government agents riding a survellaince truck poorly disguised as an ice cream truck.
  • Been There, Shaped History: According to this movie, Bill Gates got rich with frog technology that Konna accidentally dropped in his yard.
  • Brick Joke: In one scene, the American government officials order an elephant cat. In the end, an agent shows up with a real elephant-cat hybrid.
  • Cats Are Mean: Konna is chased multiple times by a cat that turns black and grows fangs when it's angry.
  • Civilized Animal: The frogs can talk, wear clothes, and have advanced technology, but are still small and live in a pond.
  • Distant Prologue: The opening scene shows how the intelligent frogs were originally forced into hiding by cavemen who ate them.
  • A Dog Named "Cat": Konna's name means "toad", but he's just a regular frog. Though it's actually a nickname.
  • Domed Hometown: The frog city is underwater covered with a dome that nobody is allowed to leave.
  • Framing Device: The plot is a story that adult Eetu is telling to his kids.
  • Hidden Elf Village: The intelligent frogs secretly live in a pond unbeknownst to humans.
  • Insult to Rocks: When Eetu and Konna are on the run from the agents, at one point they hitch a ride in a truck carrying pigs, and Eetu says:
    Eetu: Those pigs are coming! Sorry, pigs.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Near the end, two of the government agents that have been chasing the titular characters turn out to be long-lost brothers raised in different countries.
  • Non-Mammalian Hair: Zandie has a green ponytail despite being a frog.
  • Odd Name, Normal Nickname: Konna's full name is Konstantin Napoleon Aladobi Rupiräpylä.
  • The Outside World: Konna is told that leaving the dome is dangerous and only monsters are in the outside world. Naturally, he decides to leave it.
  • Shout-Out: After Eetu tells Konna that government agents would cut him up if they found him, Konna says "Those Romans are crazy" like Obelix. He then says he learned it from one of Eetu's books.
  • Speech-Impaired Animal: Eetu's family's dog Petu is shown to be able to walk on two legs and even drive a car, but can't speak.
  • Supernatural Martial Arts: After Eetu's mom takes martial arts lessons, she somehow becomes able to float.
  • Useless Accessory: The radio amateur that finds Eetu and Konna in the USA wears two pairs of goggles, one over his eyes and one on his head.
