Go To

Mystery Kids: Return of the Beldam is a Mystery Kids crossover fanfic webcomic made by TheAvatar626.

After the Mystery Kids are formed, kids all over Gravity Falls go missing. After Norman has a vision of the missing kids, Coraline believes that it is the work of the Other Mother and reunites the Mystery Kids for their first official mission.

This webcomic provides examples of:

  • Berserk Button: Do not call Lili "Lils."
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Mabel was feeling in a "red kind of mood" and made red muffins for the Mystery Kid's first mission (post-Loboto) made of sugar, flour, fried eggs, bacon and chili powder with ketchup for icing. Raz tries it and is visibly sicken by it while Neil seems to think they're fine.
  • Deal with the Devil: Bill Cipher appears to the Other Mother after her canon defeat, restores her eyes and hand and even gives her a power boost for a "favor" down the line.
Other Mother: That seems a dangerous bargain. A deal with a devil, no?
Bill Cipher: With a demon, if you wanna get technical. But yeah. Beat's dying, no?
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Collector, some kind of spider/rat/human thing responsible for the birth of the Other Mother. Living in the hollow World Tree, he/it collects a nearly endless amount of invaluable souvenirs without a clear motive.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: The Beldam was once a spiritually devout Puritan woman who lost her daughter, Agatha Prenderghast, to the cruel Judge and Jury of Blithe Hollow centuries ago. After accidentally killing her own mother, she was hanged by the townsfolk and left to wander throughout the Spirit World, where after a Deal with the Devil (deal with the Collector), does she lose her humanity and become the monster she is now know as.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: The Beldam is actually Agatha's mother. It is also implied Norman's past self was also one of her children.
  • Mirror Monster: At the beginning, Dipper, Neil, Norman and Wybie are all in the bathroom investigating the legend of Stabby Stacey, an Expy of Bloody Mary. When Dipper explains the legend, Norman and Neil could not help but compare it to Bloody Mary and Candyman, and no one in Gravity Falls has a consensus as to how many times you have to say her name to get her to appear.
  • Not That Kind of Mage: A distinction is made between Norman's ability to see ghosts and his precognitive visions and standard psychic powers in Psychonauts.
  • Ouija Board: When Norman needs to channel Agatha to talk to her, Mabel offers him an ouija board, having three of them herself. Norman dismisses this, ghosts that only want to Troll people being the only ones who can be contacted by them.
  • Pun: Raz makes one when Mondo-Mini-Mabel holds Lili hostage.
Raz: Get off her, you son of a stitch!
  • Recursive Fanfiction: On-top of being a fancomic set in the crossover fandom Mystery Kids, the story begins after the web animation by Wirt M.
  • Red Right Hand: Once Bill restores the Other Mother, her missing hand is replaced with one formed of gold, much like her new button eyes.
  • Schmuck Bait: Dipper repeatedly mentions how the Other Mother has a trap laid out for them.
  • Shipper on Deck: Mabel seems to support the idea of Norman and her brother dating.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When the group ignores Dippers pleas to make a plan in finding the Other Mother, Dipper begrudgingly remarks that they'll just "Ackbar this."
    • Dipper jokingly calls Norman "Haley Joel."
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: After making her deal with Bill, the Beldam's eyes are restored, but appear to be made of gold.
  • The Reveal: All about the Beldam, essentially, in the fact she was once human, Agatha Prenderghast's mother, as well as a medium, just like her daughter and Norman.
  • Thought-Aversion Failure: Invoked. In Page 91, Lili purposefully puts the idea of herself, Raz and Norman in their underwear into Dipper's head just to mess with him.
