Eric Wise, also known as Scare Theater, is a YouTube user known for his analysis of real life mysteries, Creepypastas and every type of media that could scare innocent viewers. For example, he debunks the famous Japanese Kleenex commercial that was supposedly cursed and finds about missing persons, explaining odd behaviors of eccentric Youtube users, among other things. If you are easily frightened, disgusted or offended this channel may not be for you.

As of releasing his latest video on November 24, 2020, he is on hiatus from the platform, pursuing his college studies and investing time in business. He has stated that he's lost interest in creating videos at the moment, but did not say that returning someday is out of the realm of possibility.

He made his return on March 12, 2022, posting a vlog that may hint at a possible short film or alternate reality game. However, he instead returned to inactivity again briefly before coming back for good later in 2022, continuing the format he was known for and uploading fairly regularly since.

Contains Examples of:

  • Cloudcuckoolander: His videos tend to have at least one in them. For instance, Refbatch, a Russian woman found ranting in the street and on camera, in Russian and occasionally Gratuitous English. The man who does nothing but sit and smile into the camera, the woman who silently stares into the camera and cries.
  • Content Warning: Like in the description, Eric often forewarned more extreme foreboding videos.
  • Dead Guy on Display: Done in a Deliberately Monochrome video in which "Robert Helpmann" bathes, stabs, and generally "mistreats" a corpse named Daisy. The video is frequently speculated to be fake, but this has not been confirmed.
  • Domestic Abuse: Speculated with Marina Joyce. Is this All Part of the Show, or are the bruises on her arms and the contradictory comments about her being okay part of some abuse? Her odd behavior, such as being enthusiastic about a band then suddenly stopping and looking into the camera, as if someone told her to stop, is speculated to be part of the insanity and trauma.
  • Downer Ending: "Le Loyon" ends with The Reveal that Le Loyon was an ordinary, if eccentric, person who simply wanted to go on nature walks, but their strange choice of clothing drove the community to fear and despise them so much that they disappeared and left a note behind, strongly implying that they killed themself. The response from the community? Celebration.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • His earliest uploads are largely focused on Creepypastas, which he almost never talks about nowadays.
    • His videos before late 2016 have a different intro, which sticks out as he's used the same one since.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: "How I Made $1,000,000 Day Trading" and "Investigating Daytraders Part 2" are about finance youtubers who aren't entirely honest about how they make their money, rather than horror stories or creepy media. They're pretty light on scares; the videos focus on Eric's investigation process rather any juicy misdeeds, and Eric is careful to emphasize that he just feels there's a lack of transparency rather than active fraud at work.
  • Ghost Town: Eric explores Frick's Lock, an almost empty ghost town (though he almost got caught hopping a fence).
  • Grave Robbing: Discussed in an analysis of the Ensuring Your Place In Hell DVD.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: In Cooking with Huck Botko, the man claims to be avid cook of "long pork", a term that is used as a synonym for human flesh (this is theorized to be because human flesh tastes like pork, but no reports have confirmed this).
  • Machine Monotone: The "I Feel Fantastic" video has a robot sing in a Creepy Monotone. In the description of the original Youtube video, as mentioned in the analysis, some Robo Sexual vibes were given out, along with a reference to Pygmalion.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: Subverted in "Le Loyon", where the titular gas mask-wearing figure only looked intimidating, but turned out to be entirely harmless, if a little eccentric.
  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: Le Loyon, in the video of the same name, a mysterious figure dressed in a cloak and gas mask who likes going out on nature walks and picking flowers. Sadly, the misunderstanding in this case may have cost them their life.
  • Rape as Backstory: On "Mr Katiya's" wall (who is actually a woman), a half Room Full of Crazy, we find etchings about speculated harassment.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!:
    • The last few minutes of his analysis of "Awake," the third and final analysis of "The System ARG", has Eric announce that he has grown tired of the same cryptic messaging in the Awake videos, since they do not seem to go anywhere. He admitted that his interest in Awake peaked when they changed up, but then it went back to the same things as before, so he lost interest in not only Awake but ARGs as a whole.
    • Le Loyon, in the video of the same name, might have done this after they realized that their town is potentially planning on going after them with Torches and Pitchforks, though their wording in the note they left behind implies that they might have committed suicide instead.
  • Seeking the Missing, Finding the Dead Many videos discuss cases like this, such as the one of the young Asian woman talking to herself in the elevator and mysteriously finding her dead remnants in the water supply.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Played for laughs with Beeblefox to another Orange Citrus. He even makes a Companion Cube version of her!
  • Uncertain Doom: Le Loyon, from the video of the same name. They disappeared when their community started getting too antsy about their presence and left a note behind, the wording of said note strongly suggesting that they killed themself. However, it's also vague enough that some theorize that Le Loyon simply fled to another location. Either way, it wasn't a happy ending for them.
  • Vocal Evolution: His voice is noticeably deeper in his later videos, which can be chalked up to puberty as he was only 15 years old when he first uploaded.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Was often called this in his earlier years, as he had turned 16 shortly after the creation of his channel and many fans were surprised to learn how young he was due to his research skills and professional commentary.
