Video Game / Skylanders: SuperChargers Racing

Go To

Skylanders: SuperChargers Racing is a racing game spin-off in the Skylanders series (guest-starring Bowser and Donkey Kong), developed by Beenox and published by Activision, and released for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii during September of 2015, and is also the last Skylanders game to be released for those consoles.

The story is pretty simple. Pandergast (the Magnificent) is hosting a Grand Prix across the world of Racelandia where the winner gets to claim the Snowglobe of Destiny, a mysterious Snowglobe that will grant the winner one wish. Across the competition, other shenanigans might occur, and maybe even a villain will try to steal the competition.

This game uses many aspects found in the racing mode of Skylanders: SuperChargers and is the only console game in the series that doesn't have any platforming in it.

Welcome to "Tropelandia Wrap-up"!

  • Adapted Out: All of the villains from the Villain Trophies are playable in this game, except for the three that debuted in SuperChargersnote . They are replaced with three other villains from Trap Team that were unplayable in the mainline game.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: You already get a Sky vehicle figure in the Starter Pack, but no figures for Land or Sea (unless you bought the Dark Edition Starter Pack). But when you get to a Land or Sea race, Pandergast will lend you one of his vehicles to use, allowing you to continue the game without needing to buy at least two more figures. The only drawback is that these two vehicles have some of the worst stats of any vehicle you can use.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Terrasquid and the Frost Hound, two of the ancient Elementals from Swap Force, each have a Sea track that is dedicated to them.
  • Hailfire Peaks: The Frosty Volcano is a track consisting of a volcano and a glacier being right next to each other. This track also features one of the game’s three boss battles, which is against a Fire dragon and an Ice dragon.
  • Lighter and Softer: Compared to its mainline counterpart, and especially compared to it. The presence of the Sky Eater is non-existent, and even Kaos’ evil plan in this game is more a case of Evil Is Petty.
  • Mascot Racer: This game exclusively focuses on the racing part of SuperChargers.
  • Roaring Rapids: The Risky Rapids, one of the two tracks unlocked with the Sea Trophy, which is a river going through a Gillman village and a couple of ruined Arkeyan Robots.
  • Rubber-Band A.I.: There are a lot of ways to get ahead in races, from using as many shortcuts as you can to attacking other racers to stun them. But no matter how well you perform or how big a lead you get, the second place will always suddenly just slingshot their way to being right behind you, especially as you’re approaching the finish line.
  • Unwinnable by Design: The Adventure Mode in a similar vein as the mainline game. SuperChargers Racing expects you to already have a Sky vehicle since you will always get one in either of the two Starter Packs available, and if you buy the game used without any vehicles of that terrain alongside it, you will not be able to play Adventure Mode at all.
  • Wasteful Wishing: At the end of the game, Flynn accepts the Snowglobe of Destiny in the Portal Master’s place. However, this being Flynn, he ends up using the one wish it grants on a giant enchilada. It then appears to be Subverted, as Flynn realizes the snowglobe is fake, only for it to then become Double Subverted when an giant enchilada actually does appear from the sky and land on an island nearby.
