The sequel to Robot Gentleman Studios' 60 Seconds!, 60 Parsecs! takes place in space, during the Cold War, where you play as a space captain of the Astrocitizen Program who has to find for a new planet to stay in when Earth gets destroyed. Once again, you have 60 seconds to get as many resources (and crew) as you can and make it to the rocket before the space station blows up, stranding you 60 parsecs away from help.

TO THE TROPES!

  • Alliterative Name: All of the characters share the same initial letters for their first and last names (e.g. Baby Bronco, Tom Thomson, Deedee Dawkins, etc.).
  • Black and Nerdy: Emmet is black and has the highest intelligence out of all the characters in the game.
  • But What About the Astronauts?: A variant. The space station the Astrocitizens were living on also gets destroyed in the nuclear war, but your captain manages to escape with some salvaged supplies and/or rescued crewmates before the station blows up.
  • Dumb Muscle: Baby is the strongest of all the characters, but also has the lowest intelligence.
  • Everyone Is Bi: Everyone in the crew has the potential to become a Soul Mate to the captain, regardless if they're of different genders or the same one.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Tom sports one of these for purely aesthetic purposes that boast his ego.
  • Gentle Giant: Befitting his status as the game's strongest character, Baby's Captain's Goal is to make friends with three of his crewmates (essentially, the entirety of the largest amount of crew members that the player can have).
  • Item Crafting: The shuttle is equipped with a Crafting Module that allows you to create, upgrade, or repair equipment. In a pinch, it can also recycle items to get some crafting materials back.
  • Luck-Based Mission: A lot of the game, really. Especially when you have a full crew. Many of the events are randomly selected, and if one comes up that damages or destroys critical equipment or requires you to have an item you're missing to avoid inflicting sickness or injury on the whole crew, you're kind of screwed.
  • Mighty Glacier: In the evacuation phase, if Baby is the captain, he runs slower than other crewmates, but he has an additional item slot, allowing him to carry up to five items rather than four.
  • Non-Standard Game Over: Failure to get to the shuttle in time will result in you getting blown up along with the space station.
  • No Such Thing as Dehydration: Unlike the first game, 60 Parsecs! doesn't include thirst as a status effect for crew members.
  • Press X to Die: Choosing to do nothing (or being unable to take another option due to not having the required items on hand) during some events in which the shuttle and its crew are under attack by space communists, death robots, space pirates, or other assorted nasties will lead to an immediate game over.
  • Recruiting the Criminal: This is the backstory for Baby. He used to be a criminal before being recruited by the Astrocitizen Program, though why and/or how he was recruited is never explained.
  • Recycled In Space: A very literal example. This game takes the gameplay and mechanics of its predecessor and transplants them to a space-based setting.
  • Science Hero: Not only is Emmet the smartest character, but his Captain's Goal is to successfully solve 5 intelligence-based events in-game.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sidequest: Each character has a "Captain's Goal" side mission that you can do if you choose them as your crew captain.
  • Skewed Priorities: A certain event has this sentence:
    "It might be a solar flare interference, or worse... a new type of Soviet encryption!"
  • Token Minority: Maegan was confirmed by one of the game's artists to be the only Asian character in the game (specifically of Chinese descent).
  • Undying Loyalty: Averted. How loyal or friendly the crewmates are to the captain is determined by their morale, which, if low enough, can make them refuse to do tasks for events where a character has to be chosen. On rare occassions, they can turn out to be traitors who must be fought back. If all crewmates are insubordinate or traitors, they'll attempt to kick the captain out of the ship, leading to a game over if you can't quell the mutiny.
  • We Cannot Go On Without You: Played completely straight this time around, as the captain dying or being kicked out of the ship will lead to an instant game over.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: A wrong option may cause your crew to become insubordinate and the captain defiant.
  • Zeerust: Done on purpose for comedy. The entire universe is based on 1950s-60s Science Fiction and the Cold War is still going on.
