Trivia / Sengoku Ace

Go To

  • Bonus Material: Sengoku Blade's Sega Saturn port contains 2 CDs, one for the game itself and another for an Omake containing official artwork as well sketches of this game (you can see most of them in HG101 article about the series.)
  • B-Team Sequel: The 2005 Sengoku Cannon made by X-Nauts, and it shows.
  • Completely Different Title: The diference between Ace and Blade is BIG, with one example being changing the scrolling from vertical to horizontal as well swapping planes for people flying.
  • Creator Killer: Sengoku Cannon served as this for Psikyo/X-Nauts, as shown below.
  • Dye Hard: In his first appearance in Strikers 1945, Ayin has brown hair. Since his inclusion in the Sengoku Ace series, his hair was changing to blond for the rest of his apperances (in this series as well in other Psikyo games).
  • Franchise Killer: Sengoku Cannon ended up as this for the series due to its dull gameplay, 3D-induced graphics and having to beat the game a good few times. Also, because of it selling poorly, this ended up being one of the last (if not THE LAST) games X-Nauts made before its bankrupcy. It didn't stop City Connection from porting it to the Switch and PC though...
  • Genre Popularizer: If it wasn't the first game to popularize shmups, Psikyo's games, especially the Sengoku Ace series, gave more personality to this genre in general, especially with the mini-storylines between scenes and the multiple endings.
  • He Also Did
    • Director Shin Nakamura is the mastermind behind this game series, as well other titles from Psikyo, giving the personality to this company. Not to mention he's behind the Aero Fighters series during the time he was in Video System.
    • Jun Tsukasa was the main designer behind the series since Blade in the time he was an independent artist. Thanks to this series and Taisen Hot Gimmick series, he gained quite the reputation and is actually a very known name in the Hentai and Doujinshi scene, also under the nickname of Kacchu Musume.
  • Market-Based Title: The first 2 games have names changed: Sengoku Ace is Samurai Aces and Sengoku Blade is Tengai.
  • The Merch: The series released mostly PVC figures... of Koyori, some making the poses of the official artworks and others... better not to mention them. And also there's a figure for Kaen and Cannon's Mizuka.
  • No Export for You: The last game of the series, Sengoku Cannon, whether it be the original release on the PlayStation Portable or the rerelease on the Nintendo Switch, was only released in Japan. Averted when it got a Steam release in 2020.
  • Outlived Its Creator: Thanks to Emulation, the 2014 Mobile port of Blade made by Mobirix and the series being ported to the Switch and Steam, Sengoku Ace has gained a second wind and the fame it had enjoyed in The '90s is coming back.
  • Remade for the Export: The Blade port to Mobile (called Tengai like in its '90's US releases) has various changes compared to the original, included 2 modes (Arcade and Scenes) and changing Koyori's clothes into something less NSFW.
  • Sequel Gap: Had to pass 9 years after Blade (1996) to get finally Cannon (2005).
  • Short-Lived, Big Impact
