  • Ascended Fanon:
    • A popular fan theory concerning Robin in the original UK series (that he gained his ability to affect lights from being struck by lightning) becomes canon for his US equivalent, Thorfinn.
      • In Series 4 of the UK series in 2022, it ultimately does become canon that Robin died of a lightning strike, but instead of being struck out in the open like Thorfinn, he was zapped by lightning conducted by a tree he was using to hide from a bear.
    • Another popular fan theory concerning Kitty in the original UK series (that she was poisoned by her sister) almost became canon in the US remake when Alberta’s sister gave her the poisoned moonshine. However it turns out it’s actually Hetty’s son Thomas. He got it from Alberta’s sister with orders to dispose of it. Instead of disposing it, he used it to get rid of Alberta who is in the way of his lover.
      • The same concept was used Series 5 of the UK series in 2023 as it was suspected that Kitty’s sister poisoned her, but it turned out she died due to a poisonous spider bite.
    • Another popular fan theory is that a recurring guest at the haunted house (either Button or Woodstone) will die suddenly and become a ghost becomes canon when Pete's wife Carol dies and becomes a ghost after choking on a donut hole.
  • As Herself: Tara Reid plays a version of herself who is Trevor’s celebrity crush.
  • California Doubling: The series was shot in Montreal, Canada.

  • Fake Nationality:
    • German actor Flula Borg play Danish Soren
    • American Devan Chandler Long plays Norwegian Viking Thorfinn
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: In season three, Sam is now wearing looser, baggy tops and longer skirts, as Rose McIver is pregnant.
  • Library of Congress: The LoC hosted an evening with some of the cast members (Asher Grodman, Danielle Pinnock, Richie Moriarty, Rebecca Wisocky, and Román Zaragoza) in April 2024, half-way through season 3. The panel followed an advance screening of that week's episode "The Polterguest."
  • The Other Darrin:
    • In season 2, Alex Boniello replaces Hudson Thames as Crash’s head.
    • Baxter, Nigel's fife playing subordinate, was played by Chad Andrews in "D&D," and by Steven Yaffee in "The Polterguest.".
  • Real-Life Relative: In "Ghostwriter", Sasappis’ father Naxasi is played by Roman Zaragoza’s father, Gregory Zaragoza.
  • Recycled Script: The series mostly uses original plotlines, with a few exceptions:
    • The first two episodes follow largely the same story beats as the first two episodes of the UK series.
    • "Dinner Party" is broadly the same plot as "Moonah Ston", minus the titular ritual.
    • "Pete's Wife" borrows Pete's storyline from Pat's in "Happy Death Day" and elements of Trevor's storyline from Julian's in "The Ghost of Christmas".
    • Part of “Halloween 2: The Ghost of Hetty’s Past” uses the plot of from “Bump in the Night” where the Ghosts use their powers to warn the living man that there is trouble in the house.
    • "Dumb Deaths" gives Pete the chance to realize he actually was a good scout leader when one of his now-grown charges is able to use skills he taught her to handle a first-aid situation. This is similar to Pat (from the UK version) whose scout uses his knot-tying skills to help out at the wedding at Button House (the UK setting).
    • “The Christmas Spirit, Part Two” shares a similar plot line with “The Bone Plot” as it explores a ghost’s Arranged Marriage during his life. It turns out that although the ghost didn’t love his wife, he still cared for her and she also cared for him.
    • “Ghosts Hunter” loosely shares the plot of “The Grey Lady” as it involves a paranormal investigation of the house.
    • “Ghost Father of the Bride” features a wedding that almost didn’t happen like “Perfect Day”.
    • “Whodunnit” shares the concept of of one of the previous owners of the manor being gay and committing murder though instead of it being Hetty's husband it was Hetty's son who would poison Alberta.
    • “The Heir” borrows the season 3 story arc of the UK version as it features a woman claiming to be a long-lost relative. However, it turns out that she is a fraud. The difference is that in the UK version, she wants the occupant’s money. While this version has her working for a lawyer from a firm representing Sam's family, so he can become the owner and then sell it at a huge profit.
    • Played with: In "The Vault," it is revealed that Hettie was married to Elias to affect a land deal; in the UK version episode "He Came!", it was revealed that Fanny was married off to Lord Button to save her family from poverty; the US version aired within a month of the UK version.
    • “The Owl” borrows a plot line from “Gone Gone” as it deals with the ghosts and the woman who can interact with them, coming to terms over the fact that one of the main ghosts got “sucked off”. They even have a memorial service for the ghost who had moved on.
    • “Holes Are Bad” share a plot line with “The Bone Plot” as they both reveal that in life, a ghost took the blame for a crime they didn’t commit. It resulted in their death by suicide (although Humphrey’s suicide was more of an accidental one).
  • Self-Adaptation: The Six Idiots are executive producers for this remake.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: Flower’s absence for most of season 3 was caused by the actress, Sheila Carrasco having a baby before start of the season’s production.
