• Dueling Dubs: The Gag Dub produced by ADV Films vs. the true-to-text dub produced by Animax.
• Keep Circulating the Tapes: The Animax dub is almost completely lost, with only five episodes being available online.
• Missing Episode: There's an episode about Kuchisake-onna that never aired due to how her disfigurement was depicted. Kuchisake-onna has a Glasgow Grin, but her disfigurement looked more like a cleft palate. Because this was seen as insensitive to those suffering from this condition, the episode was shelved. The only footage that has been released is the preview for the episode.
• Same Voice Their Entire Life: In the ADV dub, Marcy Bannor uses the same voice for Kayako both as an adult and as a child.
• Sleeper Hit: Though often assumed to be a flop, the original series was actually this in Japan. It originated as mid-season filler from Fuji Television; the network did little to promote it, and was surprised that it became popular with kids, drawing ratings that rivaled One Piece and Pokémon during its original airing. However, this lack of promotion prevented the series from becoming overly profitable for either Fuji or Aniplex; little merchandise was produced, and video sales were underwhelming, and it wasn't renewed for a second season. That said, Ghost Stories was syndicated for years on Japanese television and received a respectable overseas release in Southeast Asia and Latin America, ensuring it retained a decent fanbase.
• Throw It In!: The driving force of the ADV dub. All the dialogue was made up by the voice cast on the spot, resulting in a vast ocean of pop culture references, fourth wall breaks, and extremely vulgar jokes.
• What Could Have Been: Greg Ayres, Leo's voice actor in the ADV dub, once mentioned that if the "Drunk Mel Gibson Jew rant" had occurred just two weeks earlier, they would have been able to make a joke about him in the final episode.
