Trivia / Freddie as F.R.O.7

Go To

  • All-Star Cast:
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: $18 million. United States box office: $1,119,368. This film's Wikipedia article claims that it had a large media campaign and press coverage, but its negative reception prevented any chances of success. In May 2007, AOL claimed that it was the lowest-grossing animated film of all time, although 2007's The Ten Commandments (which also had Ben Kingsley) and 2008's Delgo both grossed less than Freddie.
  • Channel Hop: It was originally released to theaters in the United States by Miramax Films. The later home video release was distributed by Universal Pictures in conjunction with Shapiro-Glickenhaus Entertainment.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: On top of both cuts of the movie being unavailable on streaming (or Blu-Ray), the American edited cut has not received a Region 1 DVD release (but if you have a region-free DVD player, you can import the Hungarian or Czechoslovakian DVD that both have English audio options). Unfortunately, the uncut version of the film (as originally shown in theaters) has only received a VHS release in the United Kingdom, and has yet to see a DVD release at all.
    • Additionally, the movie’s soundtrack has only seen a CD release, back in the early 90’s to promote the film. The CD has been OOP for decades, and several of the songs on the soundtrack remain unavailable digitally (even on Youtube).
  • Non-Singing Voice: Grace Jones provides Messina's singing voice during Evilmanya.
  • One-Book Author: The only film ever made by businessman Jon Acevski, and the only production by Hollywood Road Film Productions.
  • Stillborn Franchise: A sequel, Freddie Goes to Washington, was just starting production when the film was released, hence the Sequel Hook at the end, but its failure led to the project's cancelation.
  • Stunt Casting: James Earl Jones re-records the narration in the American release, for little reason other than to get another big name for the poster.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Brian Blessed as per usual is clearly having lots of fun hamming it up as El Supremo
  • What Could Have Been: A lot of actors were considered for the role of Prince Frederick before Ben Kingsley was selected.note
  • Written for My Kids: The film originally began as a bedtime story Jon Acevski told his young son starring his favourite frog toy.
