Tends to rise the farther along the Grand Line the Straw Hats sail, with a very sharp increase ever since Amazon Lily, and especially since the start of the Marineford arc. Post-timeskip? Off the charts.

  • The Marineford Arc in its entirety. Also known as "The Paramount War", the "War of the Best", and "The Holy Shit! Arc". It features the first major deaths in the present story with Portgas D. Ace and Whitebeard. The former, who had been set up for execution after being publicly exposed as the son of the Pirate King Gol D. Roger, utterly breaks Luffy after he'd already been split up from his crew. The latter reinvigorates the very age of piracy that his death was supposed to deter by confirming the existence of the titular treasure in his final breath. Blackbeard would then somehow steal Whitebeard's cataclysmic powers from his corpse, becoming the first person in known history to wield more than one Devil Fruit.
  • Dressrosa Arc becomes even bigger than the Marineford arc for this. Loads of fighters, thus loads of fight scenes, no less than 3 Dark and Troubled Past (prominently Law's, in which it's revealed that he's a D), and the introduction of Gear Fourth are shown here, culminating in Luffy gaining a Grand Fleet.
  • The Zou Arc marks the first time pirate bounties break into the billions. Not only that, but the highest revealed bounty to date was only about half as high- Ace's 550 million berries, who himself was one of the most infamous names of any pirate alive at the time simple due to his lineage. There is also the fact that this arc introduces a new kind of Poneglyph that is mission-critical to finding Raftel, and reveals that two are in the hands of an Emperor apiece, meaning that if the Straw Hats want to make it to One Piece, they MUST confront these Emperors and their forces on their home turf, and almost certainly will have to engage in fights against the Emperors themselves.
  • Whole Cake Island Arc, seeing the very first time the Straw Hats are in a serious head-to-head confrontation against an Emperor, featuring much more explicit and repeated instances of death, and showcasing a villain with the power to instantly murder people, a gigantic family of equally capable pirates, three of which are on Jack's level, if not higher, a villainous organization of mercenaries threatening to conquer the North Blue that is being deceived, and at least three groups of people plotting to take down a common enemy. On top of all this, the unspoken bits of Sanji's past come into light and actually dwarf the Dark and Troubled Past he was first seen suffering in the Baratie Arc- in fact, they're a lead-in to this suffering that makes his ordeal of being marooned look like a gleeful walk in the park!
  • The Reverie Arc, while less than 10 chapters, sets up a clash between the Revolutionary Army and the World Nobles to free Kuma, and ends with the introduction of Imu, the true King of the World who even the Five Elder Stars bow down to.
  • The Wano Arc has the crew finally engaging the Animal Kingdom Pirates since their buildup in Punk Hazard, a conflict that has spanned 20 years through Time Travel... which gets off to a rocky start when Kaido descends as a gigantic Azure Dragon and one-shots Luffy. Then Big Mom, hot on Luffy's heels over his achievements in her territory, forms an alliance with Kaido, pitting the protagonists against two Emperors at once. The climactic battle takes place in Onigashima, which Kaido rips out of the water and slowly floats toward the Flower Capital. Luffy loses again and gets tossed off the island, only returning when Momonosuke has Shinobu turn him into an adult, making his dragon form the same size as Kaido. In the finale, Luffy seemingly loses one more time, only to be brought back from death's door by the Awakening of his Devil Fruit, which has secretly been a Mythical Zoan of the Sun God Nika, and he's confirmed by Zunesha to be Joyboy. After a final clash of two island-sized attacks, both Emperors are ultimately thrust deep down into magma, with their positions replaced by Luffy and Buggy.
  • Chapter 1060. As Sabo calls the Revolutionary Army and denies killing Cobra, he's about to reveal that there's someone on the Empty Throne, which is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the One Piece world. Then, the Five Elders declare that those listening in on the call heard nothing and the island where Sabo was hiding never existed as Imu obliterates that island, a terrifying display of Imu's power.
  • Chapter 1085. It's revealed that Cobra and Vivi's ancestor, Nefertari Lili, was the one who spread the Phoneglyphs across the world. It's also revealed that the Nefertari family are carriers of the Will of D..
