The Main Cast

The Eclipse is a 2022 Thai Mystery Romance drama television series. It is based on a novel of the same name by Prapt. It stars First Kanaphan as Akk and Khaotung Thanawat as Ayan.

Suppalo, the country’s top boys school, implements a rigid system where rules must be obeyed. Rumors of a curse that harms unruly students cause unease, but also incite riots among a group of protesting students calling themselves ‘The World Remembers’. Akk, the head student prefect, is tasked with subduing this group and keeping order. However, this proves to be a difficult task with the arrival of New Transfer Student Ayan, who seems dead set on defying authority and even more so on messing with Akk. However, not everything is as it seems, and Ayan has transferred for a purpose: to discover the mystery of his uncle’s suicide. Among conflicts of interest, tension rises - and perhaps love as well.

The Eclipse contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: Akk and Ayan at the start of Episode 8. Unfortunately, Akk stops the kiss last minute and claims That Didn't Happen

  • Beach Episode: The second half of Episode 7 and first part of Episode 8 mostly take place on the beach near Akk’s parents’ house.

  • Being Evil Sucks: It becomes more and more evident that Akk feels this way about his unscrupulous actions.

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Akk and Ayan are constantly clashing. They’re also very clearly attracted to each other.

  • Berserk Button: Don’t steal Ayan’s notebook.

  • The Big Damn Kiss: Finally, after much teasing, Akk and Aye share a particularly tender one in episode 8.

  • Book Ends: The show begins with Akk laying on a boat by his lonesome, monologuing about not wanting to grow up. It ends with him on the same boat, only now Ayan is with him.

  • Cannot Spit It Out: Akk has difficulty verbally expressing his love for Ayan due to feelings of inadequacy.

  • Driven to Suicide: Ayan’s uncle and Akk’s teacher Dika. It came as a result of the loss of his job and Chadok’s perceived betrayal after their relationship was discovered.

  • Fake First Kiss: The kiss Akk and Aye share in Episode 6 ultimately turns out to be Akk’s imagination.

  • Gayngst: Experienced by Akk and Khan.

  • Internal Reveal: Thua reveals Akk’s crimes and sexuality to the whole school during Episode 11. Wat manages to somewhat cover for him by claiming it’s all an act.

  • Manipulative Bastard: Teacher Chadok is this, if his interactions with Akk and Teacher Dika’s diary serve as evidence.

  • New Transfer Student: Ayan. He brings a healthy dose of unruliness with him.

  • Plagued by Nightmares: Ayan has constant nightmares about his uncle’s death.

  • Plot-Triggering Death: The suicide of Ayan’s beloved Uncle Dika, who was a teacher at Suppalo, is what leads him to the school.

  • Red Armband of Leadership: The student prefects all wear blue armbands.

  • Scholarship Student: Akk. It’s implied to be one of the reasons why he’s so dead set on following the rules.

  • "Shut Up" Kiss: Ayan gives one to Akk in Episode 10 when he starts self-deprecating. It serves both as this and a reassurance.

  • Spark of the Rebellion: Initially, Nun, Nong, and Nian seem to be the only ones invested in protesting against the school’s strict regime.By episode 10, there’s a whole crowd of people that support them.

  • The Lost Lenore: Dika is this for Teacher Chadok. They were engaged before his death.
