Homeroom is a 2020 Japanese Dorama series adapted from a webcomic by the same name by Chiyo.

Sachiko Sakurai is a kind, shy schoolgirl who has a massive crush on her handsome teacher Rintaro Aida, but often finds herself the victim of bullying attempts from an unknown culprit. Unbeknownst to her, Aida not only also has a crush on her but is the one behind the bullying attempts she suffers each day, all so he can "save her" and be her hero.

Tropes that can be found in this work:

  • Actor Allusion: The final episode has a scene of a child holding a Mobilate from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, the show where Aida's actor Yuki Yamada first rose to fame.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The policeman who apprehends Aida early on when he thinks he's stalking Sakurai (he isn't, for once) turns out to really be Mori, Aida's predecessor who was fired and disgraced after falling for Natsume's Honey Trap.
  • Downer Ending: Just about nobody gets what they want in the end. Aida is rejected by Sakurai after he admits everything he did to her and is forced to go into hiding after his crimes are exposed, while Sakurai is traumatized by the revelation and ends up becoming a crazy Yandere herself as an adult who is now stalking Aida, and is hinted to be pulling the same Engineered Heroics on a student in her class.
  • Engineered Heroics: All of the bullying attempts Sakurai suffers are done by Aida, who believes, on account of his own upbringing from his mother, that in order to get a woman he needs to prove himself a "hero" by saving her. Ironically, this leads to Sakurai faking bullying attempts on herself in order to get Aida to "save" her.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Aida is an Ax-Crazy stalker who stalks Sakurai and puts drugs in her drink so he can sleep beside her, but even he's offended at the notion that he would ever rape her.
  • Fan Disservice: There's a lot of naked Yuki Yamada in this show, but most of it is in the context of Aida creepily stalking Sakurai or having an Ax-Crazy moment.
  • Hospital Hottie: Megumi Shiina, the attractive school nurse.
  • Hot Teacher: Aida is a handsome young teacher loved by nearly every female student in the school.
  • Hourglass Plot: By the end of the show, Aida is a depressed and neurotic loner who is now taking the same drugs he used on Sakurai to fall asleep at night. Sakurai, meanwhile, is a teacher who is hinted to be pulling the same stunts Aida did to her on one of her male students, and is now stalking Aida and hiding beneath his bed, just like he did to her.
  • I Kiss Your Foot: After she discovers Aida hiding inside Sakurai's home, Yua Natsume uses it to blackmail Aida into licking her foot and later removing her sock with his teeth.
  • Karma Houdini: While his crimes are exposed, Aida disappears immediately after and isn't properly punished for everything he did. At the same time, when we see him in the Where Are They Are Now Epilogue, he's a neurotic wreck stuck in a low-level dead-end job unable to move on from Sakurai. Ironically, Sakurai is now secretly stalking him, meaning he did technically succeed in getting Sakurai to love him, he just isn't aware of it.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: It isn't until halfway through the series that Aida even realizes Sakurai also has a crush on him, despite all the obvious signs, and even then he never thinks to try and court her a legitimate way as opposed to stalking her and drugging her so he can watch her while she sleeps.
  • Mask of Sanity: In class, Aida seems like an earnest and compassionate teacher who cares deeply about his students. In private however, he's a raving lunatic who sees himself as a "hero" and is completely obsessed with Sakurai.
  • Momma's Boy: Aida loved his mom, and she seems to have been the one responsible for his "hero" philosophy.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Aida has eyes for Sakurai and no one else, to the point of viewing all other women as "worthless meat".
  • Sticky Situation: One of the ways Aida (and later, Sakurai herself) bullies Sakurai is by putting glue on her desk seat so she'll be stuck to it.
  • Two-Person Love Triangle: After hearing Aida say he has someone to protect, Sakurai begins to worry that Aida is in love with someone else, not realizing he was talking about her.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: Aida, our protagonist, is a psychotic stalker who emotionally manipulates Sakurai and hides under her bed so he can be close to her.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Sakurai enjoys being saved by Aida so much that she eventually starts faking being bullied just so he'll rescue her more and she'll be able to spend time around him.
  • Yandere: Aida is obsessively in love with Sakurai and determined to remove all obstacles between him and her by any means. Sakurai is eventually revealed to be one towards Aida as well.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After getting Shiina to help him frame Moriyama, Aida tells her her usefulness is over and blackmails her into leaving the school.
