Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S2 E22 "Gossamer is Awesomer"

Go To

The twenty-second episode of the second season of The Looney Tunes Show.

Daffy helps Gossamer run for class president.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Hero: Bugs pawns Porky off on Speedy just to get some peace and keep the garage the way he likes it. Porky's organizational skills end up improving Speedy's business and give him a new career path. Bugs is quite surprised when Porky openly thanks him for making all this possible.
  • Berate and Switch: After seeing what was done to his hole, Speedy appears just as tweaked by Porky's organization systems as Bugs and wants to have a word with him. He then thanks Porky, saying it's so efficient.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Among the things Porky does to make Bugs' house more organized is to add a "paper" recycling bin, a "wet items" recycling bin", and a "wet paper" recycling bin.
  • Brick Joke: At one point Daffy changes Gossamer's name to Steve. Later at the end of the episode a kid named Steve wins the class president election.
  • Chekhov's Skill: At one point, Porky mentions that in college, he minored in medieval architecture. This comes in handy when, near the end of the episode, Speedy mentions that he was thinking of having his other restaurants designed to look like castles.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Daffy mentions that he was on the city council - and indeed he was, in "Dear John".
    • When Daffy finds out that Gossamer's rival candidate is Winnie Yang, he brings up that they had the same piano teacher, referencing the events of "The Grand Old Duck of York".
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Daffy repeatedly stressed that "Steve" was a more electable name. A kid who actually has that name ends up winning the race, prompting Daffy to insist he was right all along.
  • Dark Horse Victory: Gossamer didn't win the class election, but neither did Winnie Yang. The one who did was Steve.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Porky's "system" for Bugs' pantry: S-J-G-C, which stands for both "Soups, jars, grains, cereals" and "So just get cooking".
  • Graceful Loser: Gossamer loses (and according to him, it wasn't even close), but he's in good spirits. He says what's important is that he had fun, and he congratulates the winner of the race.
  • Hidden Depths: A lot of Bugs's albums include Reggae, much to Porky and Speedy's surprise.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Provided by Daffy, of course...
Daffy: You're just going to let him stay here?! Until when?! He's not going to get a job! He's just gonna be here, eating your food, taking up space, making a mess... Do you have any idea what you're getting yourself into?
  • Irrational Hatred: Played for laughs with Daffy's dislike of Winnie Yang, who is consistently pleasant and polite to him.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • After Gossamer leaves for school with Daffy, Lezah questions why he's never asking Bugs for help instead.
    • Porky somehow organized everything in Speedy's mousehole. Bugs is completely confused over how he even got in there to do it.
    • Porky questions why someone with Super-Speed even needs better organization. Speedy says it's because he's looking to expand to multiple locations and that even someone like him can't be everywhere at once.
  • Monster in the Moat: Speedy attempts to expand his restaurant business by opening one that is designed to look like a medieval castle in Cincinnati, Ohio. His grand opening fails due to Porky Pig (his hired designer) having real crocodiles placed in the moat for historical authenticity, unbeknownst to him. The crocodiles proceed to attack his would-be customers, driving everyone away.
  • Noodle Incident: Why are Bugs and Daffy out of toilet paper?
  • Perfectly Cromulent Word: "Awesomer", which Daffy uses as part of Gossamer's campaign slogan - "Gossamer is Awesomer".
  • Sanity Slippage: Bugs is driven insane by Porky's organizing everything.
Daffy: (after spilling paper mache on the floor) Whoops. Can you hand me a paper towel?
Bugs: JUST LEAVE IT! Look, it's better ta have a mess than to try ta figure out whether ta put da wet paper towel into da "paper" recycling bin, or in da "wet items" recycling bin, because then it would be both paper AND wet! PIGGY DOESN'T HAVE A SYSTEM FOR THAT!
Daffy: Man, you need to relax. Go listen to some of your reggae.
  • The Scapegoat: When Porky's not looking, Bugs puts the pantry back the way he likes it. Porky later asks who messed up his system, so Bugs immediately shouts, "Daffy did it!"
  • That's All, Folks!: Bugs enjoying Reggae and asking why others apparently dislike it.
