Go To

The eighteenth episode of the second season of The Looney Tunes Show.

After nearly choking to death on a piece of pizza at Pizzarriba's all-you-can-eat buffet, Daffy decides to take up piano lessons from Granny, which leads to Bugs buying a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, which he uses to drown out anything he doesn't want to hear. This in turn leads to Daffy quitting his lessons on the night when he is asked to play a concert at Pizzarriba.

This episode features the "Daffy's Legacy" Merrie Melodies music video.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • At Granny's house, a melodious rendition of "The Grand Old Duke of York" can be heard, and Granny says "You're a natural piano player!" next to Daffy, implying that she is praising Daffy for his performance. She then says "Do you mind? I told you I'd give you your lesson when she's done!" to Daffy, revealing that Winnie Yang was the one who was playing gracefully.
    • Near the end of the episode, Bugs asks Daffy to play piano for him at Pizzarriba. In the next scene, the sound of melodious piano playing is heard, and Speedy thanks Bugs, to which Bugs tells him, "Don't thank me, thank Daffy!", implying that Daffy is the one playing piano and his performance has improved. The camera then zooms out to reveal Daffy standing next to Bugs, and Daffy says, "Don't thank me; thank Winnie Yang and her parents for letting her stay up so late." Sure enough, Winnie Yang is the one playing piano at Pizzarriba.
  • Bland-Name Product: The appliance store that Bugs buys his new TV and noise-cancelling headphones from is called Great Buy, a spoof of Best Buy.
  • Blatant Lies: When Bugs tells Porky about how his noise-cancelling headphones blocked out Yosemite Sam's conversation with him, Porky asks him if ever used them on him. Bugs tells him "What? No!"
  • Dreadful Musician: When Daffy attempts to learn to play the piano, he is awful. The only way Granny, his teacher, can stand being around him is when she is using headphones to block out the noise. Sylvester loses the will to try and eat Tweety, who walks inside of Sylvester's mouth to escape Daffy's playing. In the end, Granny gives Daffy a gold star just to get rid of him.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Bugs buys noise-cancelling headphones to drown out Daffy's terrible piano playing and unwanted conversations from his friends. When Daffy considers quitting due to his repeated practice getting him nowhere, Bugs pretends to listen to him, resulting in Daffy quitting. Bugs also ends up arranging a concert for Pizzarriba due to pretending to listen to Speedy's conversation.
  • Hidden Depths: Yosemite Sam deduces that Daffy is attempting to play "The Grand Old Duke of York".
  • I Can't Hear You: When Bugs tries to tell Daffy that he's going out to buy a new TV after Daffy sold his old TV to buy the piano, Daffy plays the piano so loudly that he can't hear Bugs. When Bugs tells Daffy that he's playing too loud, Daffy says "You're right! Grandmummy would be proud!"
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Yosemite Sam complains to Bugs about how Daffy's horrible piano playing is keeping him awake, and lists off a number of other grievances he has with Bugs and Daffy, including Daffy parking his parade float in front of Sam's driveway. Sam admits he doesn't have anywhere to go, but blocking someone's driveway with your vehicle is an offense that can get their vehicle towed.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Winnie Yang is this to Daffy, due to her being much better at playing piano than him, especially since she's a young kid and Daffy's an adult (who acts extremely childish).
  • Suicide as Comedy: In the epilogue, Tweety gets so tired of listening to Daffy's piano "music" that he attempts to kill himself via climbing into Sylvester's mouth. Due to not thinking straight, Sylvester doesn't even notice that his Arch-Enemy who really wants to eat entered his mouth. This is all played as a joke, though.
