Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S 2 E 21 Year Of The Duck

Go To

The twenty-first episode of the second season of The Looney Tunes Show.

When Daffy discovers that ducks are not included in the Chinese Zodiac, he thinks it's because ducks don't have a positive image. In an attempt to increase the popularity of ducks, he talks Tina into entering the Royal Oaks Glen Oaks Oakwood Oaks Country Club's beauty pageant.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Daffy constantly misnames Elmer, calling him "Elmo" and "Elvis".
  • All for Nothing: Despite not winning the beauty pageant, Tina did manage to move Ducks up 33 places on the Animal Popularity Index. Unfortunately, Daffy brings them down 41 places, making them slightly worse off than they were before they started.
  • Beauty Contest: This episode has Daffy enter Tina in the R.O.G.O.O.O.C.C.'s beauty pageant to give ducks a better image for the public, though she thinks he's more qualified for it.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: This epsiode reveals that Daffy likes to eat peanut butter and ranch dressing on sandwiches.
  • Brick Joke: When Daffy looks over the Animal Popularity Index, he finds that Great White Sharks are more popular than Ducks. This episode's end tag has a Great White Shark look over the Animal Popuarity Index and say "Hey, fellas! Get a load of this! We cracked the top ten!"
  • The Cameo: One of the baseball players for the Gas House Gorillas from Baseball Bugs appears in the intro for Tit For Tat.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: When Lola states that she thought Daffy was an animal with beaver tail and beaver teeth, Daffy points out she is thinking of a beaver.
  • Fan Disservice: This episode has the rather nauseating sight of Porky in a speedo in the R.O.G.O.O.O.C.C.'s beauty pageant. It also counts as an In-Universe example, as people are disgusted by it, and it bumps Pigs down a few places on the Animal Popularity Index.
  • Human Cannonball: Porky is shot out of a cannon during the finale of the R.O.G.O.O.O.C.C.'s beauty pageant. He gets shot into the ceiling and becomes hospitalized.
  • Humor Dissonance: In-Universe; Porky tells the old "I just flew in from New York and boy are my arms tired" gag. Lola finds this joke so funny that she spends the next thirty seconds crying in laughter and even falling out of her chair as if it was the funniest thing she ever heard in her life, all while explaining the punch line. Bugs and the audience at the beauty pageant, on the other hand, don’t even chuckle.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Tina and Daffy, respectively, best emphasized by this exchange:
Tina: I'm not the beauty pageant type.
Daffy: Oh, of course you are. You're constantly at the salon, you spend hours in front of the mirror, and you're always prancing around the house in a tiara.
    Tina: That's you.
  • Mistaken for Dog: In this episode, Lola mistakes Daffy for a beaver and Porky for a seal.
  • Opinion Flip Flop:
    • In this episode's prologue, Bugs asks Daffy and Porky where they should eat lunch. When he suggests Hunan Palace, Daffy objects, saying that he had Chinese food for breakfast. When Bugs arrives at Hunan Palace, Daffy says in delight "Oh, I love Chinese! I haven't had it since breakfast!"
    • When Carol gives Daffy a peanut butter and ranch sandwich, he tells Foghorn "Don't ever let her go." After the tastes it and finds too much peanut butter in it, he tells him "Now she put too much P. You gotta get rid of her!"
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: In the epilogue, when Porky recovers in the hospital after a human cannonball-related accident, he says he's not surprised he's recovery is so speedy since it's the Year of the Pig. Daffy tries to tell Porky that it's really the Year of the Rabbit, but Bugs kicks him in the shin to stop him from talking and let Porky feel good about his recovery.
