Mooncation

Original air date: 11/10/2011 note

Sandy takes SpongeBob to the moon for a vacation.

Mooncation contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – Space: Saturn can be clearly seen from the surface of the Moon and Sandy is even able to ride along its rings while showing off her board tricks.
  • The Cameo: Ernest Borgnine (the voice actor for Mermaid Man) makes a cameo standing outside Nickelodeon Studios.
  • Cut Short: In-Universe when SpongeBob bends a space satellite, causing a soap opera Patrick is watching to be cut short when Patrick was about to find out who Carol's real father is.
  • Eye Pop: Sandy's reaction to seeing that SpongeBob brought her a cake, just as the rocket leaves the Earth's atmosphere.
  • Literal-Minded: Sandy tells SpongeBob to keep his hands folded until they arrive on the Moon. SpongeBob proceeds to fold his hands into an origami crane and shows it off to Sandy.
  • Mini-Mecha: Sandy has a special spacesuit that's more than twice her size to help repair the rocket while it's in mid-flight.
  • Skewed Priorities: SpongeBob accidentally punctures the rocket's fuel supply, and he and Sandy have to hurry if they want to have enough fuel to make it back home safely. Before they can leave, SpongeBob tells Sandy to wait while he takes a photo of himself holding up the Earth in his hand.
  • Space Episode: SpongeBob inadvertently tags along with Sandy as she takes a trip to the Moon. This isn't the first time the two have traveled to the Moon, however.
  • Tempting Fate: When the cake that SpongeBob brings with him floats around the ship in pieces, Sandy notes that it's only bad if it gets sucked into the ship's reverse spatial linearity drive, which is what happens immediately afterwards.
  • Title Drop: Said by Sandy after SpongeBob gets stuck aboard her rocket as it takes off.
Sandy: Better strap yourself down. Looks like you're going on a mooncation!
  • Trip to the Moon Plot: Sandy, with SpongeBob tagging along, go on a vacation to the moon.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The episode begins with Sandy's vacation slides and projector being confiscated, only for her to reveal she has a copy of them to show SpongeBob and Patrick.

Mr. Krabs Takes a Vacation

Original air date: 11/9/2011 note

Mr. Krabs takes a vacation from work.

Mr. Krabs Takes a Vacation contains examples of:

  • Big "NO!":
    • Mr. Krabs does this when he sees the money in the mint getting destroyed.
    • Pearl also does this when the autograph picture she finds gets destroyed by Mr. Krabs's tears.
  • Calling Your Bathroom Breaks: SpongeBob spends most of the car trip complaining that he has to use the bathroom.
  • Crying a River: Both times Mr. Krabs cries, he floods the mint with his tears. The first time, SpongeBob absorbs them and squirts them out of the window (or next to the window, since he missed) to get rid of them and accidentally ruins an autographed photo Pearl had found.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: SpongeBob snaps Mr. Krabs to attention when he gets so overexcited over paper.
  • Like a Son to Me: Mr. Krabs's reasoning when Pearl complains about bringing SpongeBob on their family vacation.
  • Not This One, That One: Pearl is excited as Mr. Krabs drives up to their surprise vacation, and they go towards the teenage boy museum. Cue the museum being demolished and Pearl being heartbroken.
  • Ocular Gushers: After Mr. Krabs sees money being shredded, he cries so hard his nose and arms are replaced with tear fountains, and he floods the mint. In order to stop his crying, SpongeBob has to turn a valve on his pants. He does it again at the end after Pearl takes his custom dollar bills, with SpongeBob putting on a raincoat, life preserver, and umbrella hat in preparation.
  • Punny Name: Bill, who acknowledges the irony of his name coinciding with his job at the Bikini Bottom Mint.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Justin Flipperlake is an obvious parody of Justin Timberlake.
    • When Mr. Krabs asks Pearl if she is ready to go on vacation with him, she says "You bet your bottom dollar.", which is a reference to the song "Tomorrow" from the Broadway musical, Annie.
  • Tempting Fate: While relaxing as he watches Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob leave on their vacation, Squidward notes how nothing can possibly ruin this, only for Patrick to appear behind him dimly laughing.
  • Vacation Episode: The episode centers on SpongeBob joining Mr. Krabs on his vacation.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: During the car trip, SpongeBob is desperate to use the bathroom. When he, Mr. Krabs, and Pearl arrive at the mint, it's never brought up again.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The episode begins with Mr. Krabs showing everyone a slideshow.
  • Wingding Eyes: When Mr. Krabs asks SpongeBob to come along on his family vacation, SpongeBob's eyes shape themselves like magic 8 balls with the words "Yes" and "Please".
  • Would Rather Suffer: Pearl decides she would rather sift through the rubble of the teenage boy museum than go into the Bikini Bottom Mint.
