Patrick's Staycation

Original air date: 11/8/2011 note

SpongeBob comes up with a solution when Patrick cannot afford a vacation.

Patrick's Staycation contains examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet: SpongeBob carries over a rock for Patrick to sit on as he eats, but ends up dropping it on his foot and squishes it flat.
  • Fun with Acronyms: After saving Patrick from drowning, SpongeBob gives him a candy cane in order to perform CPR: Candy Peppermint Resuscitation.
  • Growling Gut: Patrick's growling stomach let's SpongeBob know it's time to prepare his special staycation meal.
  • Impossible Shadow Puppets: Subverted. Patrick performs some shadow puppets in place of his vacation slides and appears to make a perfect silhouette of his house, but it turns out he's just holding up a scale replica in his hands.
  • Literal Metaphor: Patrick tells SpongeBob that he's smoking after he performs an elaborate stunt for him. SpongeBob takes it as a compliment, only for Patrick to point out that he's literally smoking because a Patty was left on the grill for too long.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: When Mr. Krabs finds SpongeBob crashing on his hammock in the middle of the night, he asks if it's because Patrick's in sleeping in his bed again. Sure enough, he's right.
  • Pet the Dog: Upon finding SpongeBob asleep in his hammock because Patrick is sleeping in his bed, Mr. Krabs allows SpongeBob to continue sleeping there.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Patrick. SpongeBob does everything he can to make him comfortable and make his staycation enjoyable, and all Patrick does is look for things to complain about.
  • Unplanned Staycation: Patrick has a vacation in his own home since he can't afford to go anywhere.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The episode is told in flashback by Patrick.

Walking the Plankton

Original air date: 11/7/2011 note

SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs win a free cruise, while Plankton tries to take the formula again.

Walking the Plankton contains examples of:

  • Cruise Episode: Albeit an underwater cruise.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Karen's "Vacation Mode" changes her face and tone, making her act like a drunk while she blasts her lasers everywhere.
  • Foreign Cuisine: The Land Food Buffet, which contains food such as corn, bread, and chicken. Mr. Krabs tastes it and finds it gross.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: The episode begins with Plankton showing off his vacation slides over at SpongeBob's house.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Plankton falls overboard and gets chopped in half by the ship's propeller, forcing him to carry his bottom half back on deck.
  • Running Gag: Someone saying "If I weren't on parole..." when something happens to them.
  • Vacation Episode: The episode centers on SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs going on a cruise, with Plankton and Karen vacationing on the same cruise, the former disguising it as a "second" honeymoon for them so he can steal the formula.
  • Villain Episode: Plankton is the real focus of the episode, as he pretends to go on a "second" honeymoon with Karen in order to nab the formula again. SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs have much smaller roles in the episode by comparison.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: Just like its sister episode, Plankton shows a slideshow of what happens in the episode in the opening scene and the rest of the episode is a flashback to such.
