Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers Mario Goes To The Zoo

Go To

Mario goes to the zoo and finds out the animals have been plotting something...

Chaos erupts at the local zoo when Mario and Bob free pigs who intend a total takeover of the place. With Bob crowned as the pigs' leader and Boopkins spearheading the monke army resistance, can Mario and his friends stop the invasion before things truly get out of control?

Originally titled "World War Monke".

Tropes:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: During the climax, Bob unleashes the pigs' secret weapon: a giant Peppa Pig summoned via demonic ritual.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Tari tries to call Mario out when he decides to leave Boopkins to the monkes, only to immediately get distracted by the duck enclosure.
  • Badass Pacifist: The sloth. It ends the war by telepathically filling all of the animals and Bob with good thoughts.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: After Bob lures the pigs out of the pen and tells them to wreak havoc, the pigs suddenly change form and become more intelligent, prompting them to crown Bob as the king of the pigs and becoming his minions, kicking off the episode's conflict.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just when it seems like Boopkin's monke army is outnumbered by Bob's pig army, Tari shows up riding a rubber-duck-headed horse out of the duck enclosure with a duck army to provide reinforcements.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Played for Laughs: Melony and the sloth end the war by instilling peace in all the combatants, but a good deal of the zoo’s animals are dead from all the fighting. Yet Mario is the only one to notice this while everyone else launches into a Dance Party Ending.
  • The Cameo:
Swag: What the hell am I doing here?
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The sloth that Melony hangs with for most of the episode is ultimately the one to stop the war, by using its powers of peace to make the animals and Bob love each other.
  • Covers Always Lie: Despite the original thumbnail showing a monkey attacking Mario, it's ultimately the pigs that start the war in the zoo. Meanwhile, Mario sides with the monkes to stop the problem. This is probably why the thumbnail was later changed to Mario surrounded by a bunch of different animals, and why the title was changed from "World War Monke" to "Mario Goes to the Zoo".
  • Dance Party Ending: Everyone starts dancing in celebration of the war being over. Expect for Mario, who’s more concerned about the dead animals.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: Played for Laughs. Boopkins somehow manages to become part of monke society and become their king within the five minutes he was in their enclosure.
  • Only Sane Man: Mario, of all people, ends up being this—he tries to reason with Bob after he becomes the Pig King, questions how Boopkins was able to become the leader of the monkes and the pigs having already been plotting to take over the zoo in the last five minutes, and is the only one concerned about all of the dead animals at the end.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: A more lighthearted case. When Mario is the Only Sane Man, you know the situation's gone madcap.
  • Raised by Wolves: After Boopkins was left to his own devices in the monke cage, the monkes took him in as one of their own. He then started to learn their ways and language, and eventually he became their leader... all in the span of 5 minutes.
  • Running Gag: Throughout the episode, Mario continues to wonder what the hell is going on with the issue he's currently in.
  • Sanity Ball: Mario, the usual instigator and moron supreme, is left as the Only Sane Man in the situation as everyone else gets caught up in the war.
  • Serial Escalation: A normal (well, normal for this universe) trip to the zoo escalates into full blown warfare.
  • Sheathe Your Sword: Before Melony can unleash her deity powers on the battleground, the sloth she has been meditating with convinces her to instead use a non-violent route for ending the conflict.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spoof Aesop: What does Mario have to say to the audience after this chaotic episode?
    Mario: Don't do drugs kids.
  • Standing Between the Enemies: Melony resolves the war in the zoo by getting the various animals to play nice using the power of the sloths.
  • The Worf Effect: Mr. Monitor, who is typically The Dreaded, is reduced to just his monitor in mere seconds by the pigs.
