Recap / Re Boot S 3 E 15 End Prog

Go To

With Mainframe teetering on the brink of destruction, Bob has one last desperate gamble- allow the User to win a game, and hope the crash will force a re-start.

This episode has examples of

  • Back from the Dead: Characters that were deleted are brought back.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Two of them;
    • First, just before the system crash, Mouse and Ray share one.
    • Second, after the system restore, Bob and Dot, after three seasons of Ship Tease and several episodes of Moment Killers, finally have one of their own.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Mike addresses the viewers directly to explain that while the heroes rest, a recap of the third season will be done- in the form of a musical, no less. He even interrupts the credits to take the audience to the theater so they can watch the musical recap with the heroes.
  • The Cameo: Cyrus shows up as one of the dancers in the recap show.
  • Comically Missing the Point: "Hey! Who's the big, ugly green guy?"
  • Deus ex Machina: When all hope is lost, the User makes the command to restore Mainframe after it crashes.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Mainframe is restored to what it was before the Web invaded, with deleted characters brought back, Megabyte's former army cured of their infections, and the protagonists finally able to relax.
  • End-of-Series Awareness: As the plan was always to follow up the story from here with a Made for TV movie, this episode is written with the intention of being the series finale, exclusively focusing on giving the characters a happy ending in the moment and not mentioning any loose ends at all.
  • The Glomp: How does Little Enzo make his appearance? By tackling Bob, of course!
  • Godzilla Threshold: No chance of fixing the system the normal way? Just let it crash on the hopes the User will fix it, and specifically do so with a system restore rather than wiping the slate clean and starting over.
  • Little "No": Matrix when the game lands without any of them inside it.
  • Major General Song: The season recap song is done to the tune of this.
  • Me's a Crowd: Sorta. Because Matrix left his icon in Game Sprite Mode, the system restore assumed he had been deleted and created a second Enzo- original, season 1 design -from a back-up file.
  • Morton's Fork: Mainframe can't enact repairs without power, but if they power up a sector, the stress will tear it apart.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After the game hits with no one it, Matrix can only ask, "What have we done?"
  • Oh, Crap!: Phong upon seeing what Hexadecimal did to Herr Doktor and Bunnyfoot.
  • One Last Smoke: Alcohol variant; the pirates, Old Man Pearson, Mr. Mitchell and his entourage, and Binky and Algernon all have one last rowdy drink together as the system is crashing, to the consternation of Cecil.
  • Power of Trust: How Bob gets Matrix to consider not entering the game.
  • Race Against the Clock: Phong and the others race to ensure that every active PID is backed up in the event of a restart.
  • Refusal of the Call: Bob advocates against entering the incoming game, much to Matrix's disbelief.
  • Reset Button: Or in this case, restore command, as the User uses the system restore option to reset Mainframe to its Season 1 settings.
  • Save the Villain: Well, for a certain quality of villain. Bob advocates giving Hexadecimal a PID so that she will be spared. Phong relents, while calling it utter madness to register a virus.
  • Thank the Maker: "Thank the User! We are saved!"
  • Undying Loyalty: Ray could easily escape from Mainframe and save himself, but he decides to stay and see things through to the bitter end for the sake of his new friends, especially Mouse.
  • Unseen No More: A variant. This is the only time the physical presence of the User is ever directly observed; although we don't actually see him, we see Mainframe from his point of view (the user interface of his operating system) for the only time, and his keystrokes are heard as he executes the system restore.
  • Wham Shot: Little Enzo appearing. The sprites can only stare in shock as the young sprite chatters on and on.
  • World-Healing Wave: Mainframe's restart is depicted as one of these, with the wrecked city's buildings being restored to their former glory. The system's inhabitants also reappear in flashes of light. Viral binomes who were corrupted by Megabyte receive a second flash, this one curing them of Megabyte's infection and freeing them from his control.

ReBoot S3 Recap Song

This musical number made to fill people in on what occurred during Season 3 is a parody of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Major-General's Song" from The Pirates of Penzance.

How well does it match the trope?
