Recap / Power Rangers Dino Fury Episode Thirty Five Love Hate

Go To

Ollie tries to reveal something important to Amelia, while Lord Zedd comes back for revenge.

Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: Ollie and Amelia nearly kiss towards the end, but are interrupted by the other Rangers.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Ollie, as a result of Zedd's newest monster. Once he comes out of it, he makes it clear he was fully conscious for the whole thing.
  • Call-Back:
    • Zedd frees Scrozzle partly because he's able to access the Crystal Dimension, where Zedd's staff has been lying around since Beast Morphers.
    • Zayto quips that Amelia really is Ollie's honey muffin now, something that Ollie had called her back in "Lost Signal."
  • Comically Missing the Point: While talking, Mucus uses a fan on Void Queen but is told to go slower. Mucus proceeds to talk slower, while continuing to wave the fan quickly.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Scrozzle happily says that he considers Zedd to be even more fearsome than Evox. He then gets scared, saying he hopes Evox never finds out he said that.
  • The Dragon: The other reason why Zedd busted Scrozzle out of Grid Battleforce's prison.
  • Everyone Can See It: Izzy points out it's been fairly obvious how Ollie and Amelia feel about each other.
    Izzy: I totally called it!
  • Evil Is Petty: Why does Zedd have his monster go for Ollie first? Because Ollie called him "radiator face" last time they met, and he wants payback.
  • Evil Pays Better: Scrozzle's stated motivation for working for Zedd is the pay's pretty nice.
  • Flower Motifs: The daisies Ollie wanted to gift Amelia which usually mean happiness or joy. She makes him happy.
  • Flowers of Romance: Ollie wants to give a bouquet of daisies for someone, but Amelia refers to them as weeds...unaware that Ollie was trying to give them to her.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Zedd is specifically looking for Rafkon himself.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: Ollie being brainwashed in this episode by Zedd will pave the way for what happens to him in Cosmic Fury. Particularly, Solon says that she needs to administer a mind control antidote quickly before the poison spreads to Ollie's "Ranger energy". In Cosmic Fury, we see that "corrupted Ranger energy" is a much harder spell to break; the only way to free a Ranger in such a state is to permanently destroy the corrupted powers.
  • Kick the Dog: The episode begins with Ollie showing up at Buzzblast with flowers for someone, but Izzy chooses that moment to point out that co-workers dating is stupid. Ollie's so crushed he doesn't bother delivering them or the card he was with him to his intended recipient, which was Amelia.
  • Moment Killer: As is always the way with Rangers, just as Ollie and Amelia are about to kiss, the others ruin it.
    Aiyon: [grinning] What'cha doooin'?
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Zedd's plan to brainwash Ollie also means he's able to learn what Zedd learned, and allows the Rangers to finally find Rafkon.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: Zedd offers Void Queen shared control of Earth in exchange for resources from the Void Family. Once he gets what he really wants, though, he bails on the Void Family without a second thought.
  • Noodle Incident: Zedd says he has spent his time since the end of "Old Foes" traveling the galaxy and has learned a number of things that are crucial to his plan.
  • Poor Communication Kills: When Izzy and Fern see Ollie coming into Buzzblast with flowers on Valentine's Day, they playfully start bugging him to tell them who the flowers are for. Embarrassed, Ollie claims they're for someone the girls don't know, and is overheard by Amelia. Since she has started developing feelings for him, she is hurt by this and makes some hurtful comments about the "weeds" he has brought for the mystery girl, causing him to storm out and throw the flowers - which were intended for her - in the trash. J-Borg, a robot who has no human social skills, finds the abandoned card with Amelia's name on it, which causes Amelia to realize the truth. Unluckily, just as Ollie was working out a plan to talk to her, he is captured and brainwashed by Zedd, who compels Ollie to (among other things) give Amelia the cold shoulder when she tries to talk with him. Finally, Amelia's Love Confession, paired with a mind control antidote, saves Ollie and they become a couple.
Ollie: If I had just told you that, none of this would've happened.
Amelia: At least we know now.
(romantic music plays and they lean in for the Power Rangers-standard Almost Kiss)
  • Relationship Upgrade: Amelia and Ollie turn out to have feelings for one another.
  • Shipper on Deck: Izzy and Solon both approve of Ollie and Amelia, claiming they saw something there.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: If only Izzy didn't decide to put her foot in her mouth over Ollie wanting to date a co-worker, Ollie might've been able to hand Amelia the card and bouquet of flowers.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Void Queen's frustration, she realizes that Zedd played the Void Family in order to advance his own agenda.
  • Valentine's Day Episode: It's February 14 and Ollie is planning to finally tell Amelia the truth about his feelings for her. Unfortunately, his nerves get the better of him and then he's hypnotized by Lord Zedd. When the Rangers subdue him, Amelia's Love Confession brings him back to consciousness and they officially become a couple.
  • Villain Team-Up: Subverted. Zedd proposes an alliance with the Void Family, saying they can take out the Rangers for good and share control of Earth. The villains appear to be a united front, but once Zedd gets what he really wanted out of the Void Family, he leaves them in the lurch. Void Queen is pissed about it.
  • Water Wake Up: Izzy mentions that one time in their childhood, she woke up Javi this way. Javi then irritably mentions that it caused their parents to think he wet the bed.
  • Wham Episode: The Rangers finally learn where Rafkon is! Lord Zedd has returned! Oh and, Amelia and Ollie realize they love one another.
