Recap / Phineas And Ferb Oh There You Are Perry

Go To

When Doofenshmirtz is downgraded to a minor threat after a new villain called the Regurgitator appears in Danville, Perry is forced to leave Phineas and Ferb for another family. Thinking he's gone missing, Phineas and Ferb try to find him.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch Silhouette: Candace is walking through Downtown Danville looking for Perry and comes across what appears to be Phineas and Ferb in a coffee shop. It turns out to be the return of Marty the Rabbit Boy and His Musical Blender (see Continuity Nod).
  • Big Red Button: Technically a small blue button, but the button that leads to the Regurgitator's lair has a big warning label that says "DO NOT PUSH". Doofenshmirtz pushes it.
  • Brick Joke: When Doofenshmirtz falls into the Regurgitator's lab, he complains that the Regurgitator didn't even set out a throw pillow to land his behind on. Later, at the end of the episode, Perry throws Doofenshmirtz off into the wilderness, and he lands on a throw pillow, which Doofenshmirtz compliments him for.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Marty the Rabbit Boy and His Musical Blender from "Flop Starz" makes an appearance and does a short version of "Gitchee Gitchee Goo" (from said episode).
    • Candace mentions in her part of "Come Home Perry" that she's allergic to dairy, which was revealed back in "Candace Loses Her Head".
  • Copycat Mockery: After Perry gets scolded by Candace and put outside, he mimes Candace mockingly, complete with using his hand to mimic her mouth.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Perry.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Lampshaded with the Regurgitator, who apparently uses a device for this. Prior to the reveal, Doofenshmirtz questions the thunder and lightning several times.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Monogram's reaction to Carl's joke about the Regurgitator: "We keep pushing him down, but he keeps coming back up!"
Major Monogram: That's not funny, Carl, it's just disgusting!
    Carl: You laughed earlier!
Major Monogram: It was a pity laugh.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Major Monogram informs Perry that Doof was reassigned to Agent S, as a picture of what appears to be Sergei the Snail is shown on screen. He would make his first proper appearance in "Perry the Actorpus".
  • The Elevator from Ipanema: A different muzak version of "I'm Lindana and I Wanna Have Fun" plays when Doofenshmirtz goes down the Regurgitator's elevator.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Two in a row when everyone hugs Perry after he returns:
    • If one looks closely at Isabella's arm positions, she's hugging Phineas instead of Perry.
    • Baljeet appears to be hugging Ferb in a similar position, but when the kids are moving offscreen, Baljeet's arms can be seen extending further to Perry.
  • Genre Savvy: Candace asks Phineas, "Doesn't [Perry] always wander off in some point of the day? A-And later, when he comes back, you say, "Oh, there you are, Perry", and he says, (Perry noise)."
  • Good News, Bad News: Monogram explains Perry's relocation in this way: the bad news being Doofenshmirtz has been re-classified as a minor threat after the rise of the Regurgitator, and the good news being Perry will be reassigned to another family far from Danville in order to fight him. He quickly realizes he got the good news and the bad news all mixed up.
  • Invisible Subtle Difference: Even though all the platypuses look the same, Phineas and Ferb find a reason to believe none of them are Perry. All except for one:
Phineas: That one's just a duck with a tail taped on!
  • It's All My Fault: Candace, not knowing that Perry has been reassigned, blames herself for him running away because she yelled at him and put him outside.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After Phineas and Ferb attracts all the platypuses in Danville with their device, they decided to check on them one by one to see whether or not Perry is among one of them. One of the platypuses was rejected because it was "too cartoony".
  • Miles Gloriosus: Doofenshmirtz explains to Perry that he will stand up to the Regurgitator, boasting that he should bow down to him. When he actually attempts to do it, he gets too afraid and decides to back out of the plan.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Dr. Doofenshmirtz tries to become the Regurgitator's "evil intern", but his usual incompetence leads to the Regurgitator being defeated and captured.
  • Needle in a Stack of Needles: To bring Perry back home, Phineas and Ferb build a platypus attractor. It doesn't work like they were expecting.
Phineas: (Surrounded by platypi) Wow, I had no idea there were so many platypuses in Danville.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Thanks to Doofenshmirtz pushing the self-destruct button in his lair, Regurgitator ends up being launched straight into prison.
  • "Pachelbel's Canon" Progression: The verses of "Come Home, Perry" are based around Pachelbel's Canon.
  • Painful Rhyme: In Candace's verse of the "Come Home, Perry" song, she has trouble coming up with words that rhyme with "Perry".
Candace: Oh, Perry! I think it's kind of scary
    I can't find you anywhere-y
    It fills me with despair-y.
Oh, Perry! I'm allergic to dairy
I'm gonna move to the prairie
And change my name to Larry.
    (beat)
    Phineas: "Larry"?!
Candace: I ran outta rhymes, alright?
    • Fridge Brilliance kicks in as you realize the tune sounds a bit like the classic fifties hit "Sherry", and that name would have been both gender-appropriate and rhymed perfectly.
  • Rooftop Concert: The gang's performance of "Come Home Perry" is visually modeled after The Beatles' 1969 rooftop concert. Phineas' guitar is even modeled after John Lennon's Epiphone Casino from the same concert.
  • Shout-Out: At the end, Doofenshmirtz is yelling, “We did it! We did it! ¡Lo hicimos! We did it!” which is one of the lyrics to the number sang at the end of every episode of Dora the Explorer.
  • Status Quo Is God: At the end of the episode, with the Regurgitator in prison, Perry is able to return to Danville, and Doofenshmirtz is his primary enemy again.
  • Title Drop: Spoken by Candace at the very end of the episode.
Candace: Oh, there you are, Perry.
    Phineas: PERRY!
The entire gang groups together to hug Perry...
    Buford: Good job, Larry.
    Candace: Welcome home.
  • Touché: During this exchange where Candace mistakes a woman's pet beaver's tail for Perry:
Candace: You have a pet beaver?
Woman: You have a pet platypus.
    Candace: Touché.
  • Tropey, Come Home: The premise of the episode is that Phineas and Ferb think Perry has run away from home.
