The Legends land in 1943. Bishop crashing into the time machine necessitates more repairs, so the Legends have to resort to getting work as "Rosies" at an airplane factory to make the replacement parts.

Tropes

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Abby, who is friendly towards Sara and Ava, but quits her job alongside her sexist co-worker George once the colored women are integrated into the workforce.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: The forewoman of the janitors agrees with Astra that changes are needed in how women, and especially women of color, are treated, but she also points out that forcing such changes onto people as rapidly as Astra did will only be met with resistance, and probably not last long. To make a lasting change, slow and steady is the best process.
  • Brick Joke: As a payoff to the Running Gag from an earlier episode, Zari finally points out the resemblance of their newest member to her ex-boyfriend, but doesn't convince Behrad and Nate, who compares him to Rip instead.
  • The Bus Came Back: Zari 2.0 returns.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The mounted minigun on the warplane.
  • Continuity Nod: When he learns that Nate is moving in with Zari 1.0 into the Totem, Gary asks if he can keep Nate's superhero helmet. It was established way back in Season 4 that Gary had a fondness for the costume.
  • Dirty Mind-Reading: After Gideon puts on the neural communicator, she thinks about Gary's shirt really bringing out his eyes and his pants accentuating his butt.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Nate is cheerfully commenting on how factory integration is now happening two years earlier, at which point all the Legends realize that is an aberration that will lead Rogue Gideon right to them.
  • Grumpy Old Man: The unseen, but mentioned Uncle Arjomand, one of the ancestors living inside the Totem, whom Behrad helps Nate prepare for, teaching him the Persian art of hospitality, ta'arof.
  • Heel Realization: Bishop has yet another one, after Behrad yells at him for not helping and being inconsiderate. He creates a device for Gideon to use in navigating Gwyn's time machine and apologizes to Behrad.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Bishop uses a minigun and starts firing at the Elite Mooks, buying time for the Legends to escape. He is captured and immediately executed as a result.
  • Historical Domain Character: First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt appears.
  • Internal Reveal: The Legends finally figure out that it was Bishop who was on that toilet that crashed into their machine. Bishop also tells the Legends of his past misdeeds throughout the season.
  • Jerkass: Mr. Staples, a full product of his time, being both highly racist and sexist.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Astra freezing Mr. Staples, the head of the factory, when he caught her in his office. And later, her integrated factory policy led to at least half of the "Rosies" quitting.
    • The Legends inspire First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to have integrated factories across the country...two years too early, which of course draws the attention of Rogue Gideon. This has become Once an Episode for them by now.
  • No Name Given: The forewoman who helps Astra, played by Kimleigh Smith, is only given the name "Female Worker" in the credits.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: What Gideon tries to argue the "evil" Gideon really is, though the team is not convinced.
  • Rage Quit: Astra implementing the integrated factory causes half of the workforce to march off in protest.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Bishop helps out the Legends in the end, and ends up being killed by Gideon's team.
  • Rejected Apology: Behrad rejects Astra's apology for getting them in this mess, because he doesn’t think she did anything wrong to apologies for.
  • Rousing Speech: Astra gives the remaining workforce a big one, properly motivating them to finish the plane.
  • Running Gag: Zari, for the first time, mentions that Gwyn reminds her of John, but Nate thinks he reminded him more of Rip.
  • Sassy Black Woman: Astra's and Spooner's forewoman for the janitors.
  • Shout-Out: Astra mentions that Mr. Staples is giving her "creepy John Travolta vibes".
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Bishop realizes the problem of the Legends popping up in seemingly random events in time: their time machine doesn't have navigation. He also fixes the problem by creating a helmet interface that allows Human Gideon to fulfill the same purpose that she had back when she was still a time ship.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Bishop becomes the unknowing test subject for Behrad and Zari coaching Nate on the principles of taarof. Eventually, however, Bishop just drives everyone, including the usually level-headed Behrad, up the wall. After Behrad tells him off however, he apologizes.
  • Too Many Halves: Gideon claims she is now both 100% human and 100% computer. She admits this is mathematically confusing.
  • Wham Shot: At the end, Rogue Gideon's small army of Elite Mooks take off their helmets...and they're Evil Knockoffs of the Legends.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Gwyn, when he hears that there is a Second World War after the supposed "War to end all wars."
