Recap / Glitch Techs S 2 E 9 Im Mitch Williams

Go To

  • All Work vs. All Play: The conflict between the Furious Four. Mitch is all about work and barely sees his family unless it's for new gaming gear. Meanwhile the Furious Four siblings only care about playing their games to the point that their house is a complete mess.
  • Bookends: The beginning and end of the episode has the Furious Four shout "Let's get furious!" The main difference is that the end has all four of them together.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: The Furious Four are mad that Mitch is so busy with their work that he doesn't hang out with them anymore. Mitch himself calls out that they're so busy with their games that they hardly even care about him outside getting gaming stuff and that if they don't take it seriously, they'll lose their gaming privileges for good.
  • Call-Back: Mitch freaks out when the Glitch goes to a door that reads "FTW". A few episodes prior, Five revealed that Mitch's old Tweeker account was "Mitch FTW".
  • Chekhov's Skill: Nix states that he's learning to manipulate pixels at the beginning of the episode. Five uses this in the plan to trap the glitch.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The Furious Four have a back-up generator in case of a power outage. This turns out badly for the Glitch Techs as they needed the power out to catch the glitch once and for all.
  • A Day in the Limelight: As the title of the episode tells the viewers, this is Mitch's focus episode.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Mitch's siblings keep breaking their gaming tech to forces Mitch to give them more in hopes that he can hang out with them more.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The title is Mitch's catchphrase but also represents how he's no longer associated with the Furious Four streamers (his siblings).
  • Exact Words: Mitch says that 1984 Spangler Street is "my turf" and it's important to him. Of course it's his turf and it's important because it's his house.
  • Faux Horrific: Miko's reactions to how Mitch's siblings will permanently lose their gaming rights if they don't clean up their messes reek of this to the point she has an Imagine Spot of a funeral for them.
    Miko: It's a perma-death sentence!!!
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The glitch enters a room labeled FTW which Mitch is panicked about. Seconds later, as Miko is trying to cheer him up, she sees a scrap of a poster from said room...Mitch's room.
  • Foreshadowing: There's a lot of foreshadowing about how the Furious Four and Mitch are related.
    • The fact that Mitch is horrified when Five says the address out loud along with how Phil states that the house has to be debugged once and for all hints that this is something personal for Mitch. We later see why.
    • All three streamers at the beginning of the episode have one thing in common with Mitch: dark skin and vibrant colored hair. In fact, Speck's hair is the same shade of white that Mitch has.
    • Mitch seems to be on very good terms with the Furious Four streamers due to him knowing their names, and they all call him "Bruv", which is short for "Brother".
    • Mitch panics when the glitch goes to a room, whose door has a sign reading "FTW". Mitch's old Tweeker name was Mitch FTW.
    • Why does Mitch's room have a poster of the Furious Four on it? Because he was once in it.
  • In-Series Nickname: The Furious Four call Mitch "Bruv" because he's their little brother.
  • It's Personal: The job at 1984 Spangler Street is this to Mitch because that's his house and his siblings are the cause of the glitches.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Five lampshades that there's only three members of the Furious Four. That's because the fourth member happens to be their little brother, Mitch.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: The tech specialist coming to visit Mitch's house.
  • Not Hyperbole: Mitch insists that 1984 Spangler Street is his turf with everyone else assuming it's his excuse to get more glitches and more experience. It's later revealed that it's not an exaggeration; that's his home address.
  • Oh, Crap!: Mitch gets this look when the job at the beginning of the episode is on 1984 Spangler Street...which is the location of his home.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • A job listed at 1984 Spangler Street makes Mitch panic, which he rarely does. Once it's revealed why it's important to him, it's understandable.
    • Things are serious if Mitch decides to just give up on something, particularly getting his siblings to understand that they have to clean up their mess.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Mitch is unwilling to tell Five and Miko why he has to take the Furious Four case. Moreover, due to the siblings so focused on their games, they aren't willing to hear Mitch out on why they have to stop.
  • The Reveal: Mitch used to be part of a famous streamer team called Furious Four alongside his older siblings. He was also supplying them with Hinobi tech to fuel their gaming addiction.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Miko and Five assume that Mitch wants to claim 1984 Spangler Street as his turf so he can rake all the XP from the glitches that spawns. It turns out that he wants that specific address for his own because it's his family that is the cause of the glitches (although he does capture the glitch in the end).
  • Rule of Symbolism:
    • Mitch's siblings all keep their eyes covered with visors and are so engrossed with their gaming that they are unable to see the problems all around them: both the total disarray of the house and the stress they give their brother.
    • The door to Mitch's room is closed shut, like how Mitch shuts himself out from others who want to help him. Once the door opens he becomes more open to explaining to his siblings what's bugging him.
  • Shout-Out: The Tech Specialist is based off Soldier: 76 all the way down to his voice actor.
  • Sibling Team: The Furious Four is this, with Mitch included.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Mitch started to appreciate teamwork for real, this time. He also decides to actually spend more time with his family and not focus on Glitch Tech work all the time.
  • You're Insane!: Mitch's reaction to why his siblings keep breaking their tech — as a ploy for their little brother to hang around more — has him state that they're mad.
  • Wham Shot: Miko finds a scrap of a poster that has Mitch's face on it. And across the hall is a poster of The Furious Four...which has a hole that perfectly fits the scrap in her hand.
