Recap / Digimon Fusion E11 "Ice to See You, Angie!"

Go To

Japanese Title: Xros Heart, Burn!

Bastemon watches over Taiki while he sleeps, causing Akari to leave the room out of jealousy and head outside where Zenjirou is trying to lead a defense against an ongoing attack by IceDevimon's forces. Nene observes via a live video feed provided by her Monitamon. Meanwhile, Lilithmon asks IceDevimon about the progress of thawing out a large Digimon she plans to use for a new strategy, but decides to also use a secondary plan to obtain the Lake Zone's Code Crown directly.

That night, Zenjirou performs maintenance on Ballistamon, which seems to bother Akari alongside everything else she sees the others doing. Outside, a homesick Akari begins to hear her mother's voice, revealed to actually be Lilithmon, which leads her to a storage room with a mirror. Lilithmon attempts to manipulate Akari through the mirror, but Shoutmon interrupts and accidentally breaks the mirror, which Akari believes to be connected to the human world. Akari runs off saying she hates the Digital World and Lilithmon again manipulates her through a shard from the mirror. Lilithmon tells Akari that she will be able to go home using the Code Crown. IceDevimon reports to Lilithmon that the large Digimon has been thawed out before being attacked by it. Akari finds the key to the Code Crown in Bastemon's necklace and steals it with an incantation, but the resulting glow awakens Taiki, who is confused when Akari says that she is returning to the human world. Shoutmon, who has been sleeping on duty, is forcefully awakened by Cutemon and Dorulumon. Shoutmon tells Dorulumon about Akari's strange behavior and Dorulumon realizes that Lilithmon is manipulating her. They see Akari walking across the surface of the lake, which was frozen while nobody was looking. Across the lake, Akari approaches Lilithmon with the Code Crown which she obtained from a statue in the castle courtyard. Dorulumon explains that Lilithmon is adept at illusion and mind control magic. Lilithmon has brought the remaining forces in the Lake Zone to the shore.

Zenjirou and Shoutmon lead a charge of roughly equal numbers against Lilithmon's to rescue Akari. Lilithmon breaks the charge with her secret weapon, Daipenmon, who has trapped IceDevimon in one of its popsicles. Taiki awakens from a vision of Akari in danger just as Daipenmon freezes the castle and all of the Digimon, reaching a window just in time to see Lilithmon leading Akari away. Taiki leaps out of the castle to follow Akari and is joined by Zenjirou, who avoided Daipenmon's attack by taking cover behind Knightmon's shield and takes a spear for self-defense. Lilithmon attempts to take the Code Crown from Akari as Shoutmon, Ballistamon, Dorulumon and Cutemon start to free themselves from the ice. Lilithmon decides to cut Akari's hand off to take the Code Crown, but Zenjirou stops her with a thrown spear. Akari tells Taiki and Zenjirou that she wants to go back to Earth because she feels useless in the Digital World. Taiki tells her that she has been supporting him the whole time is that he's glad that she's there. The Digimon show up and tell Akari that she's needed, which Akari is overjoyed to hear. She refuses to give that Code Crown to Lilithmon and attacks her with it, scratching Lilithmon's face. Enraged, Lilithmon fuses Daipenmon and IceDevimon and attacks, but Knightmon and the PawnChessmons arrive in time to block the attack. Together, Taiki, Akari and Zenjirou DigiXros Shoutmon, Ballistamon, Dorulumon, Starmon, the Pickmons, Knightmon and the PawnChessmons into Shoutmon X4K. Shoutmon X4K powers through Daipenmon's attack and destroys the giant Digimon. Nene is impressed, but decides not to approach Taiki.

Back at the castle, the members of Xros Heart are hailed as heroes. Knightmon, the PawnChessmons and Bastemon decide to join Taiki, the latter over a jealous Akari's objections. Nene approaches Kiriha with an offer of an alliance, revealing that she has a black Xros Leader and a combat-capable Digimon of her own, Sparrowmon.

Tropes:

  • And This Is for...: Shoutmon X4K avenges Akari's manipulation by destroying Daipenmon.
  • Berserk Button: Do not damage Lilithmon's face if you value your life. Lampshaded in the dub.
IceDevimon: I thought Laylamon couldn't get any scarier!
    Daipenmon: Ya think?!
  • Duct Tape for Everything: The Bastemon statue in the castle courtyard is shown taped back together after everyone gets back.
  • Engaging Chevrons: Shoutmon X4K's DigiXros sequence is identical to the regular X4's.
  • Equippable Ally: Knightmon and the PawnChessmons, who upgrade Shoutmon X4's sword and become a shield.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: IceDevimon is horrified when Lilithmon decides to chop Akari's hand off. And this guy was willing to kidnap a princess to get the Code Crown.
  • Eye Catch: A Shoutmon X4 card.
  • Fusion Dance: Shoutmon X4K debuts in this episode. Lilithmon also fuses Daipenmon and IceDevimon into... uhh, here goes... IceDevimon Daipenmon Enhancement Absorbent.
  • Graceful Loser: In the original, Lilithmon leaves more impressed with Xros Heart than anything else.
Lilithmon: Not bad... It's no wonder IceDevimon couldn't win.
  • Harmless Freezing: Daipenmon inflicts this on all of the Digimon in the Lake Zone. Shoutmon, Knightmon and the others break out pretty fast.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: The dub adds this little exchange when Daipenmon is destroyed despite them being fused.
Laylamon: Well, I should have known any plan using IceDevimon would fail.
IceDevimon: I am right here! (Laylamon leaves) Wait, don't leave me! I think this thing's gonna blow! (Daipenmon disintegrates)
  • It's All My Fault: In the dub, Shoutmon is guilty that he didn't pay attention to Angie's behavior.
  • Luckily My Shield W Ill Protect Me: Knightmon's shield tanks both of Daipenmon's attacks. Zenjirou is even able to avoid the first one by taking cover behind it. And that's before Shoutmon X4K shows up.
  • Magic Mirror: Lilithmon can use magic by connecting her mirror to other mirrors, though the other ones are perfectly normal otherwise.
  • More than Mind Control: Lilithmon's spell was fuelled by Akari's feelings of uselessness. All it took to break the spell was the others convincing her that she was needed and that they were happy to have her around.
  • Overly Long Name: IceDevimon Daipenmon Enhancement Absorbent. The dub removes the Absorbent. Its attack's name is also a long one and is shortened even more in the dub.
  • The Power of Friendship: Taiki, Zenjirou and Akari fuse Shoutmon X4K together instead of Taiki doing it on his own like he usually does.
  • Ship Tease: As in the previous episode, Akari is very jealous of Bastemon's advances toward Taiki. As before, it's played for comedy.
  • Spear Counterpart: The statue containing the Code Crown is of a male Bastemon.
  • Superweapon Surprise: Daipenmon freezes the Lake Zone's entire army with a single attack.
  • Vain Sorceress: Again, do not injure Lilithmon's face if you ever want to see the light of day again.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Lilith was willing to cut off Akari's hand to get the Code Crown, and that's after she manipulated the girl's emotions. Fortunately, she doesn't get a chance to follow through.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Lilithmon's manipulation was broken when Taiki and the others tell Akari how much they need her.
  • You Have Failed Me: Lilithmon lets the freshly-thawed Daipenmon attack IceDevimon. Next time we see him, he's stuck in one of Daipenmon's popsicles.
