When Michael decides to marry Rita, his parents oppose the idea–until they learn she's worth millions of dollars. His second thoughts come when he discovers that she's mentally disabled.

The Arrested Development episode "The Ocean Walker" provides examples of:

  • Actor Allusion: It's revealed that Rita looked like a Monster before her facial surgery.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: GOB and his Insistent Terminology.
    (Rita walks on water)
Michael: Hang on a sec. That's part of your trick, right?
GOB: No. That's not my trick, Michael. (beat) It's my illusion!
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: When GOB splashes Rita with lighter fluid, she's the one who says in an amazed tone, "But wherever did [the lighter fluid] come from?!"
  • Citizenship Marriage: Michael wants to marry Rita so she can stay in the states.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: George Sr. curses himself via his surrogate for spilling the beans on Rita's mental disability.
  • The Ending Changes Everything: When Michael realizes that Rita is mentally challenged, he flashes back to earlier events involving her which now take on a different meaning.
  • Homage Shot: After playing Chance the Gardener for the past few episodes, Rita walks on water using GOB's illusion.
  • Improvised Zipline: How Michael and Rita escape from her locked room.
  • Lampshaded Double Entendre: Michael gets increasingly annoyed by Lindsay doing this.
Lindsay: Ask her to stay over at a hotel with you tonight. She's gonna know what that means. (winks)
    Michael: Don't... Don't do that.
  • Mirror Monologue: Justified. George Sr.'s surrogate talks to himself in a mirror when quarreling with his "master".
  • Right Behind Me: When Rita overhears Michael call her "mentally disabled".
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: Wanting her to be in a magic trick, GOB asks Rita how long she can hold her breath, and she replies, "oh, long. One time, twenty minutes." Her record, as the Narrator is quick to rectify, is twenty seconds.
  • Tempting Fate:
Michael: Nothing can stop us now. Nothing in the world of man nor beast nor time can...(gets hit by Marry Poppins)
  • Walk on Water: Rita does this at the end when walking across the pool. It's a tr... illusion though. Hilariously, it also prevents Tobias from dunking his head in there when his hair catches fire.
Tobias: Why am I not going underwater?! Dear God, why am I not going underwater?!!!
  • We Should Get Another Tape: The Trope Namer is a line from this episode. When George Michael tries to show Michael the footage of Rita eating the plastic fruit in the model home, proving her metal disability, his Star Wars video plays instead, prompting George Michael to say, "we really should get another tape. I mean, they're not expensive."
