Apple & Onion have to become Mall Santas to get the gifts they want for Christmas.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Gender: Onion’s bonsai tree, Bonsy.
Onion: But if horse manure’s what Bonsy wants, then it’s what he’s gonna get...or she...I don’t know.
  • Answer Cut: Chicken Nugget says he has no idea why the city Christmas tree no longer needs to be guarded, and then the scene cuts to Apple & Onion getting arrested for burning it down.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Onion dresses up as a yeti to scare the kids away from Chicken Nugget’s Santa’s Village.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Onion puts on an American accent when he’s disguised as a reindeer handler to trick Chicken Nugget.
    • Apple also uses one when he plays Santa.
  • Christmas Episode: Apple and Onion compete to see who’s the best Mall Santa with Chicken Nugget as each competitor tries to get the Christmas they so badly want.
  • Christmas Miracle: When the commissioner calls Chicken Nugget to tell him he’s no longer needed to guard the city Christmas tree for 48 hours and that he’ll get to spend the holiday with his kids, Chicken Nugget calls it a Christmas miracle.
  • Expospeak Gag:
Onion: I think it’s safe to say that our Santa’s Village surpasses Chicken Nugget’s exceedingly, in both caliber and distinction.
Apple: If I had my Brain Hat, I would’ve understood what you just said.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Some of the jobs that are already taken on Jobslist are Beets Buy Cashier, Unpaid Intern (“10 years experience required”), Apprentice Juicer, Frosting Assistant, and Model for Baby Boi TP.
  • Handshake Refusal: In the spirit of Christmas, Apple and Onion agree to the Mall Boss’s rule that whoever gets the most kids to visit between them and Chicken Nugget will be the one to get paid. They offer their hands for Chicken Nugget to shake to seal the deal, but he refuses.
Onion: Did you just refuse Christmas spirit?!
  • Imagine Spot: Apple and Onion have one in which they imagine how fun Christmas day will be with the presents they'll get each other. The scene then Cuts Back to Reality to them making snow angels in piles of Lego-like building bricks on the floor.
Apple: Now let’s imagine how good it’s gonna be when it’s Christmas day and we have our presents.
  • Mall Santa: Apple and Onion take temporary jobs as Santa and his helper elf for the local mall so they can earn enough money to buy presents for each other. However, when Chicken Nugget applies for the same job, they end up having to compete with him to see who can draw the biggest crowds; the winner being the only one to get paid.
  • Money Dumb: Apple apparently spent all their money on toy bricks to cover their apartment floor in them so he and Onion could use them to act out their snow angel daydream. Onion even calls it “the ultimate act of dimwittery”.
  • Newhart Phonecall: When Chicken Nugget answers his phone to the police commissioner's call, the audience can’t hear anything but his side of the conversation except for the dial tone at the end when the commissioner hangs up on him.
Chicken Nugget: What?! You need me to do the 48-hour Christmas Eve/Christmas Day guarding of the Christmas tree shift too?!
  • Overly-Nervous Flop Sweat: Onion starts sweating profusely when it seems like Chicken Nugget is going to see through his reindeer handler disguise.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: All it takes is some antler headbands for Onion to convince Chicken Nugget that a bunch of raccoons are reindeer. Chicken Nugget then turns around and plays the exact same trick on Apple with the same success.
Chicken Nugget: I always thought reindeer were bigger than raccoon-sized, but anyway!
  • Rascally Raccoon: Onion releases a bunch of hungry raccoons into Chicken Nugget’s Santa’s Village after he’s covered the props with hot dogs, and the little trash pandas ransack the place. The same thing then happens to Apple’s Santa’s Village when Chicken Nugget turns the prank around on them.
  • Running Away to Cry: Chicken Nugget runs away crying after explaining to Apple & Onion that his plan was to get paid for being the Mall Santa, buy an expensive hologram machine, and use it to guard the city Christmas tree so he could spend Christmas with his family.
  • Saving Christmas: Played with. It’s certainly what Apple & Onion believe they did and while they may have saved Chicken Nugget’s Christmas, burning down the city’s Christmas tree isn’t exactly something you’d normally see associated with this trope.
Onion: We did it, didn’t we? We saved Christmas.
  • Special Edition Title: The Theme Tune for this episode has bells playing in the background and snow falls in the scenes that take place outside.
