The thirteenth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic frees Lucas, a prisoner who has been locked up in Robotnik's fortress for thirty years. Lucas wants to find his long-lost girlfriend, Lucinda, whom Robotnik also loves.

This episode provides examples of:

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Averted with Lucas and Lucina, as they both love each other equally, but played straight with Robotnik and Lucinda. Robotnik has an obvious crush on Lucinda, but Lucinda detests Robotnik's evil ways.
  • Always Someone Better: After Sonic, Tails, and Lucas escape from the volcanic cave, Lucas begins to see Robotnik as this to him. He worries that Lucinda will marry Robotnik because Robotnik's rich and powerful, whereas all he has to offer is head lice and a very bad haircut. Earlier in the episode, Sonic reminds Lucas that Lucinda stood up to Robotnik in the past, proving that she does love him.
  • Bag of Kidnapping: Scratch and Grounder trap Lucas in one when he tries to ask Lucinda out. When they take him to the volcanic cave, he pokes holes in the bottom of the bag for his feet so he can run away.
  • Chekhov's Volcano: One is in the jungle where the schoolhouse that Lucinda teaches at is. Robotnik captures Lucas and hides him in a cave near the volcano, forcing Sonic and Tails to find and rescue him. As they do this, Robotnik detonates the volcano to trap Sonic, Tails, and Lucas and leave them to a fiery fate, but they manage to escape.
  • Dartboard of Hate: Lucinda is revealed to have one of Robotnik in her classroom. The schoolchildren cheer when she hits Robotnik's nose with a dart.
  • Disguised in Drag: Sonic disguises himself as Lucinda to play a trick on Robotnik. Robotnik falls for it, to the point where the two get married.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When Robotnik was in high school, he wanted attention from Lucinda by attempting to kill Lucas by strangling him with a robotic snake out of jealousy. Robotnik was then expelled after the incident, and started his road to villainy.
  • Egging: After Sonic defeats Robotnik's guard robots, Robotnik has Scratch fire a rotten egg bomb at Sonic. Sonic has the bomb bounce off a spring from a grandfather clock, launching it into the air and causing it to land on Robotnik.
  • I Remember It Like It Was Yesterday: Both Lucas and Robotnik say this before beginning their flashbacks of themselves and Lucinda.
  • Impact Silhouette: In Robotnik's flashback, Robotnik fights Lucas for Lucinda. He tosses Lucas through a window, causing Lucas to leave a hole shaped like his body in it.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: In flashbacks and when he is restored to his former glory near the end of the episode, Lucas resembles the title character of the Where's Waldo? series. Before his haircut, he resembles a smaller brown shoeless version of the Looney Tunes character Gossamer.
  • Love Triangle: This episode focuses on one between Lucinda, Lucas, and Robotnik. Although both Lucas and Robotnik have obvious crushes on Lucinda, Lucinda hates Robotnik and loves Lucas.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: When Scratch and Grounder attempt to capture Sonic, Sonic claims to not know how Grounder's snare trap is supposed to catch him. Grounder frustratedly proceeds to demonstrate, and no points for guessing what happens next.
  • "Reading Is Cool" Aesop: This episode has its "Sonic Says" segment to be about this Aesop:
Sonic: I love reading! Books can take you to far-away lands, and exotic places, or show how to see everyday things in a way cool way! Too bad some people have a problem learning how to read. If you know who has trouble reading, tell them to ask a teacher, or get help at a local library. All they have to do is ask! I'll tell ya, there's worlds of fun in reading!
  • Seesaw Catapult: Scratch and Grounder build one to launch a boulder at Sonic. However, Sonic ties one end of a rope to the boulder and the other end to them, causing the boulder to pull them down with it.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Both Lucas and Dr. Robotnik have different flashbacks of themselves with their high school crush, Lucinda, which happened thirty years before this episode's events. Lucas' flashback is much more true to the episode's events, as in Robotnik's flashback, Robotnik is a lot more handsome, Lucinda is in love with him, and Lucas is a lot braver, even going as far as to fight Robotnik for Lucinda.
  • Start of Darkness: Robotnik's expulsion from high school for attempting to kill Lucas was what led to Robotnik's villainous career. When Robotnik built his fortress, Lucas was his first prisoner.
  • Squashed Flat: Scratch and Grounder get flattened by a boulder that they attempt to use to flatten Sonic after they reveal to Sonic where Lucinda is.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: Sonic gives one to Robotnik when the two are married, just after Robotnik discovers who he really married.
  • Title Drop: This line at the end of the episode, when Sonic dresses up fancy for Lucas and Lucinda's wedding:
Gorilla Judge: And who are you supposed to be?
    Sonic: Best Hedgehog, of course.
  • Wild Hair: As a result of being locked up for thirty years, Lucas' hair has grown long enough to cover his entire body. He is shown to be a normal-looking human in flashbacks, and when Tails gives him a much-needed haircut at the end of the episode.
