  • Ascended Extra: Ghost Princess has a major focus in this episode.
  • Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence / Together in Death: Ghost Princess and Clarence leave the mortal realm after the mystery of her death is solved.
  • Big "NO!": Clarence drops one when he kills Warrior Princess.
  • Black Blood: When Clarence died, he exploded into a pile of spray cheese.
  • Cradling Your Kill: Clarence to his victim, Warrior Princess.
  • Death by Gluttony: Clarence eventually finds out how he died, by stuffing himself with Softy Cheese until he burst.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Ghost Princess gets one in which required death and post-mortem trauma for her and her lover, but was rewarded with two lovers ascending to the next plane together.
  • "Eureka!" Moment:
    • Finn notices the broken sword in "Some Donkus"'s grave has "RENCE" written on it. When he realizes Ghost Princess has been hanging out with a ghostly guy named Clarence, he's inspired to dig up Ghost Princess's grave, where sure enough he finds a broken sword tip with the letters "CLA" written on it.
    • Hearing Clarence say "My life is like a fart!" causes Jake to realize he was the same guy who ate himself to death on Softy Cheese, who said the same thing right before he died.
  • Foreshadowing: Jake's revulsion for processed cheese at the beginning, which turns out to be due to witnessing Clarence's gruesome death.
  • Ghostly Goals: Both Ghost Princess and Clarence are unable to ascend to the afterlife until they have discovered the true circumstances of their death, which they have forgotten.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Finn decides on this tactic when interrogating the ghosts, and insists on being "bad cop".
  • Grave Robbing: Jake didn't know it was wrong!
  • Inertial Impalement: Warrior Princess's charge ends with her being impaled on Clarence's sword.
  • Never Say "Die": According to Pendleton Ward, Cartoon Network refused to allow the word "murder" to be used in dialogue in this episode, leading to Finn's Hurricane of Euphemisms.
  • Noodle Incident: "Alright, Clarence, but only because of that one time I did that thing by accident and you were cool about it."
  • "Pop!" Goes the Human: Clarence's gruesome demise was caused by him stuffing his face with cheese sauce until he exploded.
  • Put on a Bus: Ghost Princess has Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence and is not coming back anytime soon.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The cemetery is named Hamburger Hills.
    • Ghost Princess and Clarence ascending at the end is visually and conceptually similar to a similar case in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "I Only Have Eyes For You".
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Ghost Princess and Clarence turn out to be rulers of rival kingdoms, who were forced to fight each other in battle despite their personal love.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: It's unknown what became of the two rival kingdoms following Clarence's conquest of the Warrior Princess's, especially at the time of Clarence's death and afterwards. Though in deep grief over killing his lover, Clarence could care less.
  • Wistful Amnesia: Ghost Princess and Clarence are drawn to each other despite consciously forgetting their past relationship.
