Jerkass / Fire Emblem

Go To

The Fire Emblem series, being a classic Swords and Sorcery setting, also has quite a lot of mean characters.

  • Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light
    • Medeus, the emperor of Dolhr, the Big Bad and the main cause of all of Archanea's suffering is, putting it mildly, not a nice man. He is a very cruel and vengeful dragon who is a raging misanthrope and enslaved humanity in the past.

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening
    • Gangrel, the king of Plegia and the main baddie of the first eleven chapters. When Emmeryn commits suicide to prevent Chrom from giving Gangrel the Shield of Seals for her safety, he laughs gleefully at that and at Chrom and Lissa's understandable shock and horror (which is rather in poor taste). He is in fact considered to be the biggest jerk in the game.
    • Tharja, the Plegian Dark Mage who joins Chrom's army in Chapter 9, is rather rude and dismissive towards anyone who isn't the Avatar character. She also abuses her future daughter, Noire, by using her as an unwilling guinea pig for her hexes.
  • Fire Emblem Fates:
    • Garon, the Big Bad, is not a nice guy. He even sends Corrin on suicidal missions, hoping that they die, and even states that he'd kill his own blood children at one point.
    • Iago, Garon's Evil Genius, is a slimy and unpleasant man who goes out of his way to antagonize Corrin and their comrades and is a horrible sadist.
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses: On the Azure Moon and Verdant Wind routes, Dimitri is definitely this post-time skip, being an antisocial jerk who does not participate in training sessions and is unsupportable and spends most of his free time brooding and cares only about ripping Edelgard's (who was the Flame Emperor) head off. After Chapter 14 of Azure Moon, Dimitri orders Randolph to be captured, and subjugates Randolph through mental torture by pointing out that he is just as much of a blood-hungry beast as Dimitri is, and that he will personally execute his soldiers one by one so that he can see him break. After Byleth kills Randolph out of mercy, Dimitri threatens Byleth that he will continue to use them and their friends "until the flesh falls from [their] bones". He has much less plot prominence on Verdant Wind, but on that route attacks Claude and the Alliance for no readily apparent reason beyond being targets of opportunity. His Jerkass behavior ultimately concludes with either Rodrigue's death in Chapter 17 of Azure Moon or his own death in Chapter 17 of Verdant Wind.
  • Fire Emblem Engage has several characters taking the cake.
    • Sombron, the game's Big Bad, has an extremely cruel personality and a callous disregard for all life but his own.
    • Zephia, due largely to her twisted sense of love, fairness and pragmatism, is a very cruel woman. Her Establishing Character Moment sees her - in a Faux Affably Evil tone, no less - threatening to not only kill the castle inhabitants, but also Queen Éve's children if she doesn't tell her where Firene's Emblem is.
    • The hooded sorceress, a.k.a. Evil Veyle. While regular Veyle averts this and is quite the opposite, when her Dark Veyle Split Personality is in control, she becomes an extremely sadistic and cruel girl who enjoys causing pain and misery onto others.
