Ho Yay / Bungo Stray Dogs

Go To

Bungo Stray Dogs has a widely LGBT Fanbase, and while none of the characters are explicitly stated to be same-sex attracted there are still a lot of moments that leave it very ambiguous.

  • Dazai is the main offender of this trope in the series, despite wanting to commit suicide with a beautiful lady. The creators like to pair him up with Chuuya in the official arts even though the two are former partners who can barely stand each other. They bicker back and forth Like an Old Married Couple, but it didn't stop the creators from creating more promotional art around these two.
    • They have a ready-made ship name: 'Soukoku' or 'Double Black' (courtesy of their old mafia partnership days)
    • Chuuya has an ultimate form attack that he could never use unless Dazai was within range to stop him unless he will die from Unstoppable Rage. At one point he was forced to use this and the anime followed the manga to the bone on Dazai leaving Chuuya to sleep in the forest ... except for one little detail. In case the link breaks...
    • There are some actions of Dazai 'The Chessmaster' Osamu that do not align to being a careful tactician, usually directed at Chuuya, such as keeping the other's number in his old phone (not a very smart move for someone who betrays the mafia) and waiting for his old partner in a dungeon in order to gather intel, which he already knows the location for and was fully prepared to escape at any time.
    • They're the only two characters on the promotional poster of the movie despite there are other characters to be featured. There's a reason the fandom accuses BONES as being the hardest shipper for this pairing.
  • Atsushi and Akutagawa has a fair bit of this trope going too. Not only do they share the ready-made ship name 'Shin Soukoku', but they're a deliberate team formed by Dazai for an upcoming Big Bad. They often act as rivals and don't get along, but they do share a bit of needed chemistry and they have the potential of bonding over their pasts.
    • They are clearly designed to reflect Yin and Yang, with Atsushi as Yang (active, light, healthy, Unskilled, but Strong, represented by the white tiger) and Akutagawa as Yin (passive, shadow, Delicate and Sickly, Weak, but Skilled, represented by the dragon). This is rather apparent in the manga, more so than in the anime due to its black and white coloration.
    • Atsushi is the only person that Akutagawa has ever lent his coat to (at least on-screen), and said coat is not only the main tool for Akutagawa to channel his power into, but also given to him by Dazai.
    • In the anime, when they defeat Goncharov, they literally create a large rainbow blast.
  • Ranpo and Poe has shades of this, usually in the friendly rivals category.
