The Ellie Rose Collection
is a Henry Stickmin Series Fan Fic by Lillith_the_creative on Archive of Our Own. As the name suggests, it's a spinoff series of the original series following Ellie in a story done in the style of a Gamebook. The reader influences Ellie's actions to achieve her goal by making choices, some of which are good, while most can result in her death...
Unfortunately, the fic was not finished and left like that since November 2021.
This work provides examples of the following tropes:
- Action Girl: While significantly less intelligent, Ellie is still a capable criminal willing to do anything to get what she wants.
- Adaptational Dumbass: Ellie in canon is depicted as being more aware and capable than Henry for the most part, safe of her knack to blindly follow whatever Henry does. Here, she plays a similar role to his Idiot Hero status.
- Adaptational Protagonist: As suggested in the title, Ellie is the "playable" character instead of Henry.
- Air-Vent Passageway: Two out of the three routes "Stealing The Emerald" has Ellie use the vents.
- Attack Backfire: Most of the time when Ellie uses a weapon, it will either bounce back or reflect to hit her instead.
- Boring, but Practical: How do you get in the bank at the very beginning? By asking politely.
- Bribe Backfire: Ellie is no better at bribing than Henry. When she tries to bribe the bank teller with money from the vault, the teller points out that he could've stole it himself if he wanted it, then Ellie is arrested.
- Dead Fic: Has been since 2022.
- Deadpan Snarker: The fail texts are as witty as ever.Fail Text: (After Ellie accidentally teleports to jail) Cutting out the middleman, huh?
- Didn't Think This Through: A lot of Ellie's failures are caused by this, much like Henry.
- Explosive Stupidity: The Explosives in "Stealing The Emerald" fail because Ellie did not get far enough before they blew up.
- Have a Nice Death: The messages you get after failing in the games are carried over here.
- Idiot Hero: Ellie's antics are similar to Henry's; a lot of the fails are mostly caused by her being clumsy or stupid.
- Multiple Endings:
- "Stealing The Emerald" has three:
- "Undetected Theft": After entering the bank, Ellie uses an Out of Bounds glitch to walk into the vault, then uses a trampoline to go to the upper vent to get to the roof. Finally she uses a hang glider to get back to the ground but realizes she left the emerald behi. Ellie preforms a Summon dance to get it back then runs off.
- "Business Savvy": Ellie walks through a door, only to find three more doors. Picking the one on her right leads her to where the emerald's owner is withdrawing it, so she does a Distraction Dance and grabs the emerald; however, the heavy gemstone was slowing her down. Ellie then pulls a briefcase and throws it to the owner to buy the emerald. After Ellie runs off, the owner discovers that she's been tricked with fake money notes.
- "Epic Bank Raid": Ellie uses a ladder to get up to the vents. Going left, she ends up falling in the vault, but the teller walked in, so she hides. Then, Ellie uses a Running Punch to knock him out. However, she's cornered by the guards aiming their guns at her; she uses a time warping device to send herself five seconds into the future, resulting in the guards shooting themselves dead. Ellie then leaves.
- "Finding The Treasure" had more than one ending planned, but since the fic went unfinished, it only has one:
- "Relentless Scavenger": Using a rowboat, Ellie reaches the island and crafts an axe using diamonds and sticks. She then uses the axe to swing at a tree, opening a secret door, but she ignores it and finds a more survivable path that she crosses through a waterslide. In the secret treasure room, Ellie ties the chest to a rocket and rides on it. Now out of the cave, she adds some accelerant that inexplicably gives her control over the rocket.
- "Stealing The Emerald" has three:
- Mythology Gag: The disguise option from "Breaking The Bank" is brought back here. It doesn't work however.
- Pungeon Master: The fail texts are full of puns.Fail Text: (After Ellie dies in an explosion) Don't have such a short fuse.
- Related in the Adaptation: Jacob Rose is Ellie's brother in this fic.
- Shout-Out: Similarly to the game it's a fic of:
- The Out of Bounds glitch is one of the correct options in "Stealing The Emerald".
- If Ellie chooses Chair while stealing the emerald, nothing will happen, then the fail text shows up:
Fail Text: Quitting! It's like trying, but easier.- Choosing to tackle the collector will result in Ellie knocking herself out on the emerald. The fail text comments that "it wasn't very effective."
- Ellie crawling through a vent will land her in the guards' lunch room, with the fail text proclaiming "I saw Ellie vent!"
- Using Rowboat in "Finding The Treasure" will lead Ellie to an island with an unusually blocky shore, then she finds some sticks and diamonds to craft items.
- In "Finding The Treasure", Ellie can put on funny glasses. Nothing happens, and she facepalms, breaking them.
Fail Text: Don't be such a Groucho.- Ellie can try to swap the treasure with a heavy rock, but a giant boulder crushes her anyway. The fail text quips that "Indiana Ellie failed."
- Teleportation Misfire:
- The teleporter lands Ellie in a jail cell instead of the emerald's location.
- It also teleports her right back outside the bank in another instance.
