My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic returns for its landmark tenth season!
Princess Twilight Sparkle, now supreme ruler of Equestria, faces a personal mental health crisis that ultimately changes royal tradition for the better. At the same time, she takes a young unicorn named Luster Dawn under her wing and teaches her the magic of friendship just as she once herself was taught.
Together with her friends Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity and Fluttershy, Twilight works to spread the magic of friendship throughout Equestria while confronting challenging life situations!
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 10 provides examples of:
- Accusation Fic: A minor one in the season premiere "The End is Only the Beginning," but much like the series finale in the show, Twilight accuses her friends of putting her coronation preparations over her anxieties about moving back to Canterlot.
- Adaptational Badass: Grogar is even more powerful than he was implied to be in the series. Even without the power inside his Bewitching Bell, he can restore the Mean 3 back to the levels of power they had after absorbing the magic from the bell in season 9. His bell also displays abilities it never did in the show, such as mind control.
- Amicable Exes: Cadance and Buck Withers are these. They are friendly enough with each other that Cadance invites Buck and his significant other to Flurry Heart's second birthday party. Shining isn't happy about it because Buck used to pick on him in school.
- And Then What?: Celestia spends most of "Retirement Blues", wondering what to do with her new free time that comes with retirement from the crown. She eventually takes up a teaching position, alongside Luna, at the School of Friendship.
- The Atoner: In "Sleeping Chaos", upon realizing the harm he's done to Twilight and Equestria by uniting the Legion of Doom, Discord tries to make amends by creating a Tantabus for himself like Luna did.
- Bears Are Bad News: Grogar has a pet Grizzly bear named Scarface that he uses to intimidate the villains.
- The Bully: Introduced in "Flight School Reunion", Rough Air was an even worse bully to Rainbow and Fluttershy than the colts that teased them in flight school. Unlike the other colts, Rough Air was willing to get physically violent. Furthermore, Rough Air has a disability that won't allow him to do things like becoming a Wonderbolt. He uses this as his main motivation to bully great fliers like Rainbow.
- The Bus Came Back:
- Suri Polomare returns for the first time since season four, specifically seeking revenge against Rarity.
- Svengallop returns and attempts to use a band for his own gain. Applejack and Rara work together to ensure he suffers the consequences this time around.
- Disappeared Dad:
- Spitfire's father, a former Wonderbolt, died when Spitfire was too young to remember him well.
- Celestia and Luna's father, King Cosmo, vanished over a thousand years ago. He's actually been imprisoned with his wife by Grogar, who moves them from prison to prison so Celestia and Luna can't track them down.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
- Lavan has one in Zeb. He is the only reason Lavan works with Grogar.
- Chrysalis and Tirek become loved ones for each other after falling in love.
- Forgiveness: A central theme of "The Tragedy of Gallus Griffon" episode. Gallus forgives his mother for leaving him orphaned, but doesn't forgive his father for causing him to be orphaned in the first place.
- Here We Go Again!: In "Sleeping Chaos", Lyra has this reaction when a giant apple monster terrorizes Ponyville again like when Big Macintosh proposed to Sugar Belle, and Bon-Bon shares her reaction when they get conjoined together like they did when Luna combined Ponyville's dreams to stop her Tantabus. Both moments pass quickly as they are moments of Discord unconsciously creating chaos due to a lack of sleep.
- Hurt/Comfort Fic: "The End is Only the Beginning" is a largely focused one. "Retirement Blues" has a little bit of it.
- Jerkass Realization: In "The End is Only the Beginning", Twilight's friends realize how stupid they were with putting their coronation preparations over Twilight's true feelings.
- Magma Man: Lavan is a creature made of molten rock and lava with the ability to turn ordinary mountains into erupting volcanoes. When he returns, he causes the mountain near Ponyville to erupt in an attack against the Elements of Harmony.
- Missing Mom: Celestia and Luna's mother, Queen Galaxia, vanished over a thousand years ago. She's actually been imprisoned with her husband by Grogar, who moves them from prison to prison so Celestia and Luna can't track them down.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Discord when he looks down at Twilight in her hospital bed in Part 3 of "The End is Only the Beginning".
- Nothing Is the Same Anymore:The death of Granny Smith in "End of an Era" permanently changes the dynamic of the Apple family, putting Big Macintosh and Applejack in charge of the farm.
- An Offer You Can't Refuse: When Grogar gives the Legion of Doom positions in his army, he threatens to feed them to his pet grizzly bear, Scarface, if they don't comply. Scarface is big and menacing enough to make Tirek, the biggest and strongest after Grogar, nervous.
- Parental Abandonment: Gallus was abandoned this way due to his father killing his mother and himself because he felt like he failed to change Griffonstone into a better place. Gallus sees this as a blessing in a way because it let him find a new family in the Young Six.
- Parental Neglect: Cozy Glow's parents abandoned her soon after she was born to continue their careers.
- The Penance: In "Sleeping Chaos", much like Luna in her Tantabus episode, Discord creates a Tantabus to punish himself for his part in causing Twilight psychological harm and nearly causing Equestria to fall in pieces. Eventually, Fluttershy and Luna convince him to come up with other ways to atone for his mistakes.
- Secret-Keeper: Cozy Glow becomes one for Chrysalis and Tirek in regards to their new romance. None of them want to know what Grogar would do to them if he found out they had feelings for each other.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: Unfortunately for the Mean Three, Grogar and Sombra are already aware of the budding relationship between Chrysalis and Tirek without their knowledge. They plan to feed the trio to Scarface if their romantic intentions get in the way of the legion's plans.
- Shell-Shocked Veteran: The pressure of constant world-saving, especially the battle with Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow, becomes too much for Twilight, and she develops PTSD as a result.
- The Shrink: Twilight is taken to see a pair of elderly pony therapists at Canterlot Hospital in "The End is Only the Beginning."
- Spot the Imposter: In "Sleeping Chaos", while in Discord's mind to figure out how to help him sleep again, Fluttershy and Luna find him there. It only takes Luna moments to detect that something is wrong with Discord's magic, and deduces that he is a fake — it's actually a Tantabus disguised as Discord.
- Take a Third Option: Instead of having to choose between ruling from Canterlot or Ponyville, Twilight chooses to perform her royal responsibilities in Canterlot and continue living in her castle in Ponyville.
- Wham Episode: "The Rise of Emperor Grogar" reveals that the real Grogar is still alive, and has built up an army while imprisoned on the moon. He gathers the same Legion of Doom that Discord did, resurrects Sombra from the ether once again and makes him his second in command, releases Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow from their statue while leaving the statue in place so as to not let anypony know they escaped, and he also resurrects the Storm King. The episode also reveals the history of Cozy Glow.
- What the Hell, Hero?: In "The End is Only the Beginning", Celestia and Luna give one to Discord after they force him to see Twilight in her hospital bed. Remember that even though his actions were only meant to boost Twilight's confidence, Discord once again failed to think of the consequences.
