Fanfic / Dark of the Moon: Altered

Go To

Dark of the Moon: Altered is a Fix Fic by Wacko12 on Fanfiction Dot Net that rewrites the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon to correct any inconsistencies and missed opportunities the original film had with its storytelling.

Following the events of Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen, NEST and the Autobots end up discovering Cybertronian technology after receiving a tip from Ukranian authorities. Unfortunately, this discovery unveils a bevy of secrets relating to the presence of Cybertronians on Earth, and not all of them are good. With the past returning to haunt them, the Autobots must fight if they are to secure Earth's future from all incoming threats.

Followed by Age of Extinction: Altered, The Last Knight: Altered, Till All Are One, and War of Gods and Beasts.

Dark of the Moon: Altered contains examples of:

  • Abled in the Adaptation: Megatron is not as drastically weakened from the events of Revenge of the Fallen as he was in canon, instead hiding his true strength from Sentinel Prime until he makes his move to retake command of the Decepticons.
  • Adaptational Badass: In canon, Megatron was severely weakened after the events in Egypt and was bossed around by Sentinel Prime, only regaining his drive after Carly goaded him into fighting Sentinel. Here, he retains most of his strength and actively plots against Sentinel Prime to regain command of the Decepticons.
  • Adaptation Deviation:
    • Sam and Mikaela are still a couple in this story.
    • Ironhide still has his Arm Cannons from the first film along with his Heavy Iron rifles.
    • The Dreads and Devastator are capable of speaking English here.
    • Dino and Que are respectively referred to as Mirage and Wheeljack here, with Wheeljack sporting an appearance more closely based on his G1 incarnation.
    • Sentinel's first target upon revealing his true alliegance is Bumblebee rather than Ironhide.
    • Rather than being goaded into fighting Sentinel Prime, Megatron himself decides to fight the traitorous Prime while Sentinel is about to win so he can reassert control over his Decepticon forces.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • It's implied that the Autobots managed to revive Jazz, Jetfire, Jolt, Arcee, and Elita-One some time before the story.
    • Megatron used the shard of the Allspark that his soldiers had used to revive him in Revenge of the Fallen to resurrect some of his more valuable minions, explaining why bots like Blackout, Brawl, Grindor, Sideways, and Bonecrusher are up and about in this story.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Omega Supreme appears in time to provide support against Devastator and hold of the Decepticons' aerial forces
  • The Bus Came Back: Leo Spitz, Sam's old roommate in college, shows up in Chicago after getting caught up in the Decepticon invasion of the city, later joining Sam, NEST and the Autobots in driving out the invaders.
  • Canon Immigrant: Omega Supreme from G1 appears as the true form of the Ark.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Laserbeak is crushed underfoot by Jetfire rather than shot dead by Bumblebee.
    • Sideways is disemboweled by Sideswipe.
    • Frenzy is run over by the SUV Mikaela drives after she stuns him with gunfire from Brains' shotgun.
    • Devastator gets an energy blast down his throat from Omega Supreme that fries him from the inside out.
    • Megatron gets an axe to his spark chamber from Optimus Prime.
  • Eye Scream: Starscream gets his eye yanked out of its socket by Sam's grappling claw, and judging by his internal thoughts, it hurts a lot. He later loses it after Lennox cuts through the optic nerve connecting it to the rest of him.
  • Evil Genius: Shockwave serves as the Decepticons' chief scientist and assassin, devising numerous weapons and tactics for them to fight the Autobots with.
  • Evil Power Vacuum: The Decepticons end up divided after Megatron's death, with Starscream attempting to assert himself as their new leader despite the sizeable amount of bots who hate his guts.
  • Home Base: The Autobots build themselves a new hideout in the Grand Canyon to accomodate their forces and the protoforms they rescued from the Decepticons.
  • Humongous Mecha: Omega Supreme is easily the largest bot in the story due to his alt-mode being none other than the Ark itself, managing to rival Devastator in sheer size.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
    • Bonecrusher elects to retreat after Ironhide tears off his left arm and whacks him on the head with it, deciding that it beats getting killed by the heavily armed Autobot.
    • Shockwave retreats after Jetfire manages to overwhelm him in a surprise attack.
    • Blackout leaves the battlefield after Optimus chops off half his rotor wings and his chest cannon before Jetfire decides to pitch in after dealing with a few Decepticons himself.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: As Sentinel Prime pleads for Optimus to spare him, Optimus simply states that Sentinel's judgement is purely for the previous Primes to decide before he ends him
Sentinel Prime: All I ever wanted was the survival of our race. (coughs out some inner Energon) You must understand why I had to betray you
Optimus Prime: It is not my job to judge your actions, Sentinel, but for our ancestors to judge you.
Sentinel Prime: NO, OPTIMUS! (is shot in the chest and face by Optimus)
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Ironhide does not suffer the agonizing fate his canon counterpart received, though he still receives serious injuries in the form of a stab to the chest from fighting Sentinel Prime.
    • Skids and Mudflap were among the Autobots killed by Sentinel Prime in the Dark of the Moon novelization. Here, they get to live and continue fighting against the Decepticons.
    • Shockwave manages to live past the battle of Chicago and later becomes the leader of the Decepticons after Megatron's death.
    • Starscream just has to contend with losing one of his eyes rather than getting blown up with a boomstick jammed into the eye that wasn't yanked out of his face.
    • Wheeljack isn't murdered by Soundwave due to Wheelie and Brains coincidentally downing the Decepticon mothership at the right moment to distract Soundwave.
