Metal Gear Solid: A True Patriot, shortened to A True Patriot, is a Metal Gear fanfic created by Degenerate-Otaku and co-written by Toxicanvil243 and DANNYGROM. It is a Coming of Age Story that details the Boss’s life, from when she was a young girl up until her death. It contains a mixture of action and Slice of Life.
It also features characters from the Metal Gear Zero series. Initially the two stories were going to have a Shared Universe, but due to Metal Gear Zero’s continuity clashing heavily with the creator’s ideas, it was decided that they would take place in separate timelines.

- Charlotte, although she does mellow out after becoming older and going through some misfortune, to the point of eventually becoming Joy’s friend.
- A later chapter has a college variant named Beatrice, who mocks Charlotte for liking books and then pulls a nasty prank on her.
- The Big Rotten Apple: Joy goes on a mission in New York City to kill a mob boss, and the city is portrayed as dirty and full of crime. The chapter’s title is sure enough “Big Rotten Apple”.
- Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Joy, Jasmine, and Grace, respectively.
- Cruel Elephant: Played With and justified. Joy, David, and William, while in Africa, come across a female elephant who antagonizes them, because William killed her mate a few years ago on a hunting trip and she recognized his face. However, the elephant also messes with Joy and David, despite them being innocent.
- Girl Posse:
- Charlotte had one of these, with them even wearing matching bows.
- Subverted with Charlotte’s sorority, who are quick to dump Beatrice as a friend after her prank on Charlotte.
- Greater-Scope Villain: The Philosophers serve as the overarching antagonists and the only consistent villains in the story, in contrast to the other antagonists in the story who only serve as Arc Villains. They are responsible for Joy going off to war, while also being responsible for her father's death.
- It's Always Mardi Gras in New Orleans: Joy and the Cobras assassinate Adrian during Mardi Gras. Justified, as Adrian was visiting the city for the holiday, and Joy purposely chose the day as she knew everyone would be distracted.
- No Periods, Period: Averted. Periods are often addressed in the story.
- Posthumous Character: Wolff from Metal Gear Zero is relegated to this in the timeline, due to Big Boss's father actually succeeding in killing him.
- Schoolyard Bully All Grown Up: Vincent D'Amico is this, being David's former school bully, as well as being the second-in-command of Softbottom and a supporter of Fascist Italy.
