  • Second Apocalypses are a popular plot, Second Coming of Christ optional. On the Tear Jerker side of stuff, Brought Down to Normal as punishment for the failed first one is surprisingly common.
  • Fics where Heaven and Hell try to punish Aziraphale and Crowley for their role in thwarting the Apocalypse and/or being in love with each other are a dime a dozen, especially after the TV miniseries depicted Heaven and Hell's bosses as fully willing to try permanently killing them. These fics generally fall in one of three categories:
    • One of Aziraphale and Crowley is brutally beaten by their former bosses and the other has to nurse them back to health.
    • One of Aziraphale and Crowley is dragged back to Heaven/Hell for punishment and the other has to rescue them.
    • One of Aziraphale and Crowley (or both) have their memories wiped of their relationship in the belief that this will cause them to turn on and hopefully kill each other, but their friendship/love proves too strong for that to happen or for the memory wipe to stick. If they weren't lovers before this happened, they will invariably assume they were or become romantically involved before they regain their memories.
  • Aziraphale and Crowley moving into a cozy cottage in the South Downs together. This plot is based on one of the authors telling a fan that the two of them began sharing a cottage someplace in the future (although it's not official canon).
  • Crowley getting mistaken for an incubus, or being forced to take on the job of one.
  • Crowley being summoned by someone who's usually either a Supernatural character who mistook him for the other Crowley, an older Warlock who's very surprised to see his former nanny, or a random ignorant human who finds out that this particular demon isn't interested in doing their evil bidding and has an angelic partner willing to unleash holy fury on anyone who harms his demon.
    • A common variant of this plot is Aziraphale being the one summoned instead, usually by Satanists or cult leaders who plan to sacrifice their trapped angel to their dark god for power. Of course, Crowley will show up to thwart their plans and rescue Aziraphale before any of that happens.
  • Plots that became popularized by the TV miniseries' canon:
    • Crowley and Aziraphale deciding to raise the Antichrist together instead of letting him get adopted by a human family. Said Antichrist can be either Warlock (the false Antichrist) or Adam (the actual Antichrist).
    • Since Aziraphale and Crowley coming up with their plan to thwart their superiors' attempts to kill them by swapping bodies happened completely off-screen in the show, a lot of show-based fics explore how they might have come up with that plan during the night they stayed together at Crowley's flat. These fics almost always include long-overdue love confessions and now-or-never kisses (and sometimes even more than that) too.
    • Fics that focus on Crowley's rescue of Aziraphale from the Bastille during the French Revolution are fond of depicting Aziraphale as intentionally getting captured because he's secretly into Crowley constantly saving him like a Knight in Shining Armor riding to his damsel's rescue... and perhaps also secretly into some kinky bondage play with Crowley taking advantage of him being chained up.
    • After "Crowley was the Archangel Raphael before he fell" became a popular piece of Fanon, a number of fics were written based on that fanon, usually with the plot of "Crowley lost his memories of his angelic identity after he Fell and is not happy when he finally remembers who he used to be" or "Crowley does remember his angelic identity but has been keeping it a secret from everyone else out of shame or self-preservation; unfortunately, word eventually gets out to Heaven and/or Hell who start giving him a lot of unwelcome attention".
    • Fics where Aziraphale and Crowley's angel and demon roles are swapped used to be unusually rare due to The Sacred and the Profane showing just how dark and horrifying that premise could be, but they became more common post-TV adaptation and usually better match the light-hearted tone of the series. One recurring plot element in these fics is that demon!Aziraphale and angel!Crowley will humorously prove to be far better at their respective roles than their canon selves since a demonic Aziraphale would be completely free to indulge in his hedonistic pursuits and inner bastardry and an angelic Crowley would be more willing to bend the laws of Heaven to help humans than canon Aziraphale would without having to pretend to not care about them.
    • An angel in Heaven being assigned the job to maintain surveillance on Aziraphale and Crowley and gradually becoming such a huge Shipper on Deck for them that they try to hide the evidence of their relationship from the archangels when they come around to check the surveillance photos.
    • After the video of Aziraphale and Crowley being stuck apart in lockdown came out, Fix Fics were immediately written for it where Aziraphale changes his mind about his rejection of Crowley's offer to come over to his bookshop or Crowley decides to travel to Aziraphale's bookshop in a way that won't encourage humans to break lockdown protocols (e.g. repeating his trick of traveling through phone lines or literally slithering over in snake form).
  • Going in the other direction, many fics based on the miniseries incorporate some book elements that the series didn't adapt, like all angels being sexless unless they really want to make an effort and Crowley loving sleep so much that he once slept for an entire century.
