A compilation of removed sprites.

Being a work in progress, Terraria Calamity changes often. As such, many old elements are discarded as the mod develops. Here is some content that unfortunately has not made it until now.

    NPCs

Bosses

  • Astrageldon Slime was a huge slime infected with the Astral Infection. It was eventually replaced with Astrum Aureus. A tribute has been given to it in-game in the form of the Abandoned Slime Staff.

  • The Future Bosses were hypothetical versions of the current bosses if they were allowed to continue growing stronger. They were removed due to having a negative influence on the mod.
    • The Ancient Doomsayer was the Lunatic Cultist after managing to fully absorb the Moon Lord's power.
    • The Devourer of Universes was the Devourer of Gods had it managed to consume Providence. With his newfound power, he also consumed his mature Sentinels and became a dimension-consuming deity of insane power at the cost of his already limited sanity.
    • Dragon God, Yharon was Yharon transformed into a true phoenix after fully perfecting his powers.

  • THE LORDE was a joke superboss that looked like a pixelated Yharim with googly eyes, switched between enemy behaviors at random, and used a debuff that disabled all armor and accessories. It was added to the game in a past update, only to be scrapped due to the community's excessive memeing.

  • Supreme Calamitas originally looked like an eyeball made out of metal, brimstone, or wood. The lore originally stated this was a result of Yharim's curse on her, but it was scrapped for the curse causing intense mental damage to her. Even before that, her sprite was simply a recoloured version of Retinazer.

Other NPCs

  • The Devourer of Gods used to spawn smaller worms simply known as Devourer Spawn. These are not to be confused with the Cosmic Guardians it spawns now, as they are much weaker and spawned more often.

  • Yharon used to spawn Angery Flames during his fight, with them being invincible and presenting a looming threat throughout the battle. They would shoot projectiles at the player and speed up as Yharon’s health went down. They were removed because the devs wanted to put more emphasis on dodging Yharon instead of multiple projectiles.

  • Phantom turrets were spawned by Polterghast during its fight. They would shoot projectiles at the player and came in blue and pink variants. They were removed when the Polterghast fight was revamped.

  • Perforator Minis would have occasionally spawned during the fight with the Perforators. They were scrapped due to the developers wanting more emphasis on dodging the Perforators and their Hive, instead of some random enemies.

  • The Plaguebringer Shade was a copy of the Plaguebringer Goliath summoned during its fight. This has since been replaced with the small Plaguebringers, though the concept has been reused for Polterghast.

  • The Ungodly Serpent was a Profaned enemy that was scrapped due to being extremely buggy, ofter falling off screen or combining with other enemies.

  • The Chaos Slime was a slime that dropped Chaotic Ore. It was removed as Chaotic Ore was moved to the Abyss, where slimes wouldn't fit.

    Items
  • The Astral Repeater was a repeater crafted with Astral Bars. It was reworked when the Astral Infection was added.
  • The Crimsaber was a true melee sword that would rain ichor upon enemies. It was removed due to being majorly outclassed by every other sword at its tier.
  • The Lure of Enthrallment was an item that summoned a Siren Lure. It was reworked into the Pearl of Enthrallment.
  • The Megafleet was supposed to be the final upgrade to the Star Cannon that fired Fallen Stars to create explosive blue blasts.
  • The Apocalyptic Expulsor was a gun that consumed Hyperius Bullets and fired two blasts of bullets from the gun itself and the sky respectively. It was reworked into the Concave Crossfire.
  • The Particle Accelerator was the precursor to Draedon's Forge that was removed due to complications with it. Later, its functions would be fulfilled by the aforementioned Draedon's Forge.
  • IOU an Item was dropped by Siren and Leviathan if they were killed in pre-Hardmode. It could be crafted with Living Shards into any of their drops. They were removed as progression has become more relaxed in the mod.
  • Hellcaster Fragments and Shadow Essence were the old name of the Yharon Soul Fragments and Calamitous Essence. They dropped from Solar Pillar enemies and Dungeon enemies post-Plantera, respectively.
  • Astral Jelly was the old version of Aureus cells. Astrageldon Slime also had a trophy, music box and treasure bag but they were replaced with their Astrum Aureus variants.
  • The Ashen Key was an item that could be crafted with a Locked Ashen Chest created with one Gold Key at a Workbench, to unlock it and vice versa. It was most likely removed due to them not serving any beneficial purpose.
  • The Heart Rapier was a sword that was crafted from Heart Crystals. When it successfully damaged an enemy, it would heal the player for 5 HP. It was likely removed for being underpowered in comparison to every other Hardmode sword.
  • The Rusty Lockpick was an item that allowed the player to unlock Rusty Chests. It was removed due to Rusty Chests being changed to be unlocked by default, thus making the item redundant.
  • The Siren's Heart was a Revengeance-only drop from the Siren Lure. After the Siren and its lure were changed to Anahita and her shadow, it was reworked into the Aquatic Heart, and instead of turning the player into a Siren it turns them into a water elemental.

    Sprites

  • Desert Scourge went from a blue worm into a drier-looking brown worm, which looks more terrifying than its old sprite.
  • Crabulon's new sprite has been changed to look much more accurate to normal crabs, with a lot more detail.
  • The eyes on the Hive Mind don't resemble the eyes of Eaters of Souls anymore, now having turned into Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness. It also gained four small legs that it uses for landing, two tubes that constantly pump out Corruption in its first phase, its "crown" is now composed of 6 True Shadow Scales that twitch during the fight. And it now has holes all over its head, which would definitely bring Trypophobia to mind. Oh, and it has become smaller, too.
  • The Perforator Hive has become a lot more mushroom shaped, with faces with rows of sharp teeth across its body and a shifting eye in the center. The worms, on the other hand, look much more terrifying than before by having their own Body Horror amplified.
  • The Slime God's sprite is much more detailed than its old one, and it gets a separate sprite for its second phase.
  • Brimstone Elemental's sprite has become more polished.
  • Calamitas and her brothers were originally just recolours of the Twins. In her case, she was one of Retinazer. Now, she resembles a flaming wood-like eyeball. She received another minor one later on, which made her fire more polished and added a more distinguishable difference for her second phase.
  • The Leviathan has gone from curved and tuskless to a more ferocious, bumpy look. An additional resprite gave her a more streamlined, menacing appearance that does away with her missing back half.
    • The Siren, on the other hand, started out as a recolor of a sprite, then becoming its own thing albeit rather plain, to a gorgeously designed and detailed siren. Another resprite gave it a thinner, more polished look.
  • The Plaguebringer Goliath looked rather plain at first, then a bit more detailed as a Queen Bee recolor, before getting a more sleek design with fang-like mandibles.
  • Ravager's sprite has been changed to resemble a walking fortress with flaming towers, and overall looks far more polished and coherent.
  • Astrum Deus was changed from a rocky, predominantly gold-and-purple serpent to a metallic silver one with blue-and-red accents, to fit with the revamp of the Astral Biome.
  • The Profaned Guardians have become far more polished and organic-looking, with each guardian receiving its own unique sprite.
  • Formerly, Providence was a massive moth with red wings. Then, she was a large statue-like mass with flaming wings. Her current sprite takes this even further by giving her a more cohesive design with an actual head, pale purple crystals lining her "shoulders," and flame wings that now resembles a Daimonji.
  • Signus' cloak has become a bit more detailed as he gained two more eyes, all in pink, and his tail became more smog-like.
  • Ceaseless Void formerly resembled a mirror grasped between two claws. It has been redesigned to look more jagged, like a maw filled with teeth held together by crystals. A second resprite took this even further, detailing the sprite even more, adding Sucking-In Lines for the void itself, and changing its purple-and-pink wings to black ones made of chaotic void energy.
  • Storm Weaver got a resprite that made the armored phase look much more vicious, coated with spines and crystals, while making the unarmored phase look bigger and more threatening than its old sprite. Later it got another one that made it even spinier, with its armored phase getting more than one lightning-bolt design.
  • The Devourer of Gods gradually got more and more detailed through its many balances, culminating in the eldritch monstrosity that is his final form.
  • Like her clone, Supreme Calamitas went from a psuedo-resprite of Retinazer to a flaming, wood/metal eyeball like entity. A further update made her flames more polished, and added a more obvious tell when she's in phase 2. The 1.5 resprite changed her design completely, giving her a human form.
  • The fight with the Leviathan used to be a Dual Boss with the Siren. It has since been changed to Anahita the Water Elemental, and the lure (killing which starts the fight itself) changed to match.

    Other
  • The Astral Meteor was an early version of the Astral Infection. It was made up of solely Astral Ore, and had only Astral Heads, Astral Slimes and Astral Probes as enemies. It also had a yellow and purple colour scheme.
  • The Ice Tomb was a structure exclusive to the underground snow biome. It was structured similarly to the aboveground pyramids, only using ice blocks instead of sandstone. Only one would generate per world, and it would come with a frozen chest containing items related to the snow biome. It was removed with its drops and purpose being relocated to the snow biome's Draedon's Arsenal structure.
  • The Underworld, originally, had a Shrine containing the Murasama. It was removed with the addition of the Draedon's Arsenal structures, with the Murasama being relocated to the Underworld's version of said structure.
  • The game's writing had a more self-aware tone relating to its difficulty, with Supreme Calamitas and the Devourer of Gods in particular being notorious for their abundance of trash talk and reactions to different things the player did. Even the Lore items portrayed Yharim as more of a direct mirror to a detached Terraria player who had long-since beat the game several times over and was bored with it all. After a major rewrite of the game's lore and refinement of the general tone, a vast majority of it - including half of the Devourer's lines - was trimmed out or edited in favor of less immersion-breaking dialogue and showing Yharim's state as the result of a genuine fall from grace that he's given up hope of recovering from.
