* CanadaEh: Season 9's one-hour ChristmasSpecial "A Very Canadian Christmas" had the family traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia over the holidays. The family experiences a culture shock while staying in another country during Christmas break by interacting with the locals and are eventually accustomed by what Canada has to offer.

* HeroesWantRedheads: Clyde, Garrett's best friend, starts to fall for his sister Bailey and he begins to date her.
** Stanley also with Bailey, who says that he has a thing for redheads.
** Even more of a gross example, Garrett also takes alot of interest in Bailey, but knowing that's his sister, he just paired her up with his best friend so he can try to [[BrotherSisterIncest hide his true feelings from her]].

Then, there's her parents: Irma, a [[DotingParent doting mother]] who loves her kids dearly and wants what's best for them and Conrad, a [[BumblingDad bewildered father]] who doesn't always stay in tuned with what his children are up to, but does have the tendency of being a little protective of them. Midge also has two best friends: Farrah, a bubbly GenkiGirl who's [[NewTransferStudent new to Cloverdale]] and Anson, her longtime childhood best friend who's been secretly harboring a crush on her that Midge herself is [[ObliviousToLove totally unaware of]], but they [[spoiler: [[OfficialCouple officially hit it off in the final season]]]].

* AllMenArePerverts: In another VerySpecialEpisode, Bailey meets up with a guy name Stanley, whom she met on an online chatroom. Turns out that [[spoiler: he's a pedophile and his real name isn't Stanley]]. Bailey was confused at first when she meets him for the first time because he was a 30-something-year-old man and didn't even looked like a teenage boy. He starts making out with her and even almost [[spoiler: raping]] her in the process up until her older siblings, along with the cops, burst in on them and arrested Stanley for pedophilia and attempted rape.

* AloneAmongTheCouples: Anson in the last two seasons. Midge and Farrah are now in serious relationships while he's the only single guy in the group. It's justified that he chooses not to date anyone else because things didn't work out with his ex-girlfriend back in Delaware and plus [[spoiler: he's in love with his best friend, Midge]].

* BerserkButton: Farrah is a very sensitive person at heart. She would ultimately burst into tears when her old puppy, Patches, from her childhood that was [[spoiler: hit by a car and died from sudden injuries]], is mentioned right in front of her.

* BettyAndVeronica: Midge (The Betty) and Brea (The Veronica) for Grant (The Archie). He chooses [[spoiler: Midge]].
** GenderFlipped with Anson (The Betty) and Evan (The Veronica) for Midge (The Archie). She chooses [[spoiler: Anson]].

* CassandraTruth: In the spring break episode, Chauncey catches Farrah's new love interest, Tad, making out with another girl on the beach with his camera. He tries to convince Midge that Tad is cheating on Farrah, but doesn't believe him at all because she thinks that he's jealous and he wants to sabotage any relationship that Farrah has with another guy. [[spoiler: He saw Tad making out with another girl that's not Farrah.]] He shows it to Midge and she actually believes him. Midge herself works up the courage to tell her best friend that Tad is a lying, cheating {{Jerkass}} who was only using Farrah to make his girlfriend jealous. [[spoiler: Tad finally gets caught by Farrah ''and'' his girlfriend and they both dump him.]] Farrah thanked both Midge and Chauncey respectively and Midge told her that Chauncey was the one that knew Tad was cheating on her this whole time.

* DarkerAndEdgier: The PilotMovie ''My Sister And Me'' was a rather dark and dramatic TV film due to the plot mainly being about Midge's parents dying in a car accident, having to live with her older sister Davina, who has a bit of a [[WildChild wild streak]] and [[spoiler: [[AttemptedRape nearly being raped]] by an older man]] took things way to the extreme.

* DoubleStandard: Midge and Farrah get a job at a fast food restaurant to earn extra money to get a new car. [[spoiler: They discover that their boss, who is actually a female, pays the male employees more money than the female employees]].

** In the three-parter episode "New Best Friend", Midge becomes worried when her and Farrah are spending way too much time together and are [[LimitedSocialCircle lacking friends with other people]]. They both agree to start spending less time with each other and start hanging out with other people: Midge quickly strikes a friendship with the nerdy, BookWorm Marianne while Farrah finds friends in her popular cheerleader pals, Roxanne and Lacey. They've become so incredibly attached to their new friends that they've now started to forget about each other and their whereabouts. This results in an argument between the two in when Midge and Farrah come to realize that they've found some common ground with their new friends and are happier than ever, abruptly ending their friendship for good, [[spoiler: Well, at least for a while until they start to realize how much they miss each other and eventually make up afterwards, resulting them in becoming B.F.F.s again in the third part]].

* LetsHaveAnotherBaby: Irma, to a certain extent. She felt that five children wasn't enough for a big family, so she decided that her and Conrad should try for one more. She finally becomes pregnant with her sixth child, but [[spoiler: loses her baby in the womb]].

** The movie ''My Sister And Me'' had Davina dating a man who was 18 years her senior, who later turns out to be [[spoiler: a registered sex offender]].

* MiddleChildSyndrome: Midge happily averts this trope quite well. Her family does acknowledge her existence in the household and she is actually [[spoiler: [[ParentalFavoritism her mother's favorite child]]]].

* ParentalFavoritism: According to Midge's maternal grandmother, she tells her that [[spoiler: Midge]] is Irma's favorite child because the two have a very close relationship.

* SadistTeacher: Mrs. Hinshaw, Chauncey's teacher who always gives her students a hard time by yelling at them and giving them too much homework. Chauncey even makes a false accusation about her that she [[spoiler: threatened to kill him]] if he didn't do his book report and gets her fired for it.

* CoolLoser: Midge and Marianne, respectively. Averted with Farrah, who is actually very popular since she's now a cheerleader.

** Made even more so in the third season when Davina's actress was replaced by Amanda Schull. When Farrah sees the difference in Davina's appearance, she says that she still looks mighty gorgeous and beautiful just like she was in the beginning.

* LampshadeHanging: The family's constant comments on the difference with Davina's physical appearance in the third season. When Davina comes back from her trip to Africa, [[TheOtherDarrin Davina's actress is now portrayed by Amanda Schull]]. But when she arrives at their door step, the family looks rather shocked when they first see her. They keep saying that there's something different about her, but she keeps telling that she still looks the same.

** After Farrah catches Midge's parents making out on the couch in the family living room, Anson asks her did she really saw them "do it" in the living room at school. Farrah even says "I can't even described how they did it".
** Midge gets upset with her parents about scaring Farrah off by making out in front of her when she refuses to come over to the Mayhan house. She tells her mom "Why don't you and Dad just do it in the bedroom!"
** Farrah asks Davina if she and Isaac ever "went all the way" when they were still dating in high school. Davina was confused when Farrah asked this because she didn't know what she meant. Midge whispered in her ear of what Farrah meant about that, implying that if the two ever had sex. Davina's response was a flat-out no, but said that they made out a little.

** This was actually discussed at one point when Chauncey once asked how Bailey ended up being the only sibling with red hair. Neither of the family had no clue, but they kept making up theories: Midge and Davina blantantly lied and said that they're both natural redheads and that their hair colors changed when they both stood outside in the sun too long as kids, Chauncey jokingly said that she might've been adopted and that [[ThePartridgeFamily Danny Bonaduce]] is her real father and Garrett says that red hair is a recessive gene. Bailey actually believed Chauncey and assumed that she ''is'' adopted when in fact that she's not. Conrad and Irma both took DNA tests to find out about their ancestries and found out that they both have Irish ancestors, so this could actually explain where Bailey gotten red hair from.
