''My Family and Me'' is a sitcom that aired on Creator/{{YTV}} from 1998 to 2007. The show started out as a PilotMovie under the title ''My Sister and Me'' that was released in the spring of 1997, but had a much more different concept compared to it's TV series counterpart.

The show follows a 13-year-old girl name Melina "Midge" Mayhan who lives in the middle-class suburban area of Cloverdale, California with her middle-class NuclearFamily. She has an older sister named Davina, the [[CoolBigSister cool]], overachieving eldest sibling in the family whom she always looked up to the most in her whole life and has also [[MySiblingWillLiveThroughMe lived in her shadow]]. While still going through puberty and adolescence, she tries to [[DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife find her true calling]] while being the middle child of five siblings and constantly trying to step out of her older sister's shadow. She has two younger brothers: Chauncey, a [[ManipulativeBastard manipulative schemer]] who has a huge crush on her best friend and Garrett, a NiceGuy and nerd who would sometimes go along with his brother's schemes. She also has a younger sister name Bailey who's sweet, good-natured but totally [[TheDitz dim-witted]] at times.

Then, there's her parents: Irma, a [[DotingParent doting mother]] who loves her kids dearly and wants what's best for them and Conrad, a [[BumblingDad bewildered father]] who doesn't always stay in tuned with what his children are up to, but does have the tendency of being a little protective of them. Midge also has two best friends: Farrah, a bubbly GenkiGirl who's [[NewTransferStudent new to Cloverdale]] and Anson, her longtime childhood best friend who's been secretly harboring a crush on her that Midge herself is [[ObliviousToLove totally unaware of]], but they [[spoiler:[[OfficialCouple officially hit it off in the final season]]]].

Like most family sitcoms, the show did had a handful of [[VerySpecialEpisode very special episodes]] that revolved around serious issues (same topics that you would normally find in [[Series/AfterSchoolSpecial after school specials]]) that the main characters on the show face while still maintaining the light-hearted and family-friendly theme. There was originally supposed to be a SpinOff series focusing on Midge's younger siblings, Garrett, Bailey and the arrival of their new younger sibling, but it's still stuck in DevelopmentHell and it's unknown whether it will be picked up by Creator/{{YTV}}. The nine seasons of the series are now out on DVD seperately. Like every other family sitcoms, the show had a handful of {{Christmas Episode}}s]] (plus a ChristmasSpecial), {{Halloween Episode}}s, [[ThanksgivingEpisode Thanksgiving Day Episodes]], a Mother's Day episode, a few ValentinesDayEpisodes and even a [[NewYearHasCome New Years Eve episode]].

----
!!The show contains examples of:
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Carlene to Anson. She likes Anson a lot, but he doesn't like her in that way because he's secretly in love with Midge.
** Anson's older brother, Elden, who also shows an infatuation towards Davina when she's home, whom Davina is uninterested in.
* AcademicAlphaBitch: Davina. She was a straight A student back in high school and a dean's list student in college.
* TheAce: Again, Davina. She has a background in playing sports in school such as softball, volleyball, cheerleading, track and even basketball.
** Anson is also good at playing sports.
%%** Chauncey, to a lesser extent.
* AcquiredSituationalNarcissism: Chauncey, big time. When he's falsely claimed as a hero for saving Bailey (it was actually Garrett that saved her) from almost getting hit by a car on the street, he lets his ego get the best in him.
* ActionGirl: Davina definitely knows how to take someone out when she gets into a brawl with Cynthia at Midge's birthday party when Cynthia wouldn't stop bullying and berating her and her friends.
%%** Farrah big time.
%%* ADayInTheLimelight:
* AffectionateNickname: Farrah's nicknames for her parents would be "Farebear" or "Farrabelle".
** In the first season, Chauncey's nickname for her also was "Blue Eyes" because she has beautiful blue eyes.
* AffectionateParody: The game show ''Spin That Wheel'' is a parody of ''Series/WheelOfFortune'' without solving the puzzles. It's a game where the contestants spin the giant wheel that contains extremely tough (albeit embarrassing) challenges and whatever the wheel falls on, they would have to perform those tough challenges.
* AllGirlsLikePonies: Bailey, when she attends a friend's birthday party, she gets a pony for her birthday. Bailey saids that she would also want a pony for her birthday.
%%* AllGirlsWantBadBoys:
* AllGuysWantCheerleaders: Chauncey became so enamored over Farrah when she became a cheerleader. He admits that he likes cheerleaders.
* AllJustADream: In the episode, "Just Like Davina" where Midge wishes on a shooting star that she was popular like her older sister.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Subverted. Carlene really likes Anson, but he doesn't like her in that because of his secret crush on his best friend. He wants to tell her that he doesn't want to pursue a relationship with her, but with Midge's urging to date Carlene, he swallows his pride and goes out with her instead.
* AllMenArePerverts: In another VerySpecialEpisode, Bailey meets up with a guy name Stanley, whom she met on an online chatroom. Turns out that [[spoiler:he's a pedophile and his real name isn't Stanley]]. Bailey was confused at first when she meets him for the first time because he was a 30-something-year-old man and didn't even looked like a teenage boy. He starts making out with her and even almost raping her in the process up until her older siblings, along with the cops, burst in on them and arrested Stanley for pedophilia and attempted rape.
** Also in another VerySpecialEpisode, Davina is being sexually harrassed by her male co-workers, who are a bit older, at her new job.
* AllWomenLoveShoes: Farrah and Davina are both guilty of this trope.
** Bailey gets a pair of red high heels that she wears to school, but she keeps tripping in them whenever she walks.
** Cynthia Ryerson also adores stylish shoes.
* AlliterativeName: Melina "Midge" Mayhan.
* AlmostKiss: In the Season 1 ChristmasEpisode, Anson and Midge were both standing under the misteltoe and smiled at each other bashfully, knowing that they would have to kiss, but are interrupted by their parents telling them to come join them into singing Christmas songs with them.
** This happens again between them during the DreamSequence when Anson and Midge are slow dancing in the Literature/{{Cinderella}}-themed sequence, but only for Anson to get interrupted by Carlene in the process.
* AloneAmongTheCouples: Anson in the last two seasons. Midge and Farrah are now in serious relationships while he's the only single guy in the group. It's justified that he chooses not to date anyone else because things didn't work out with his ex-girlfriend back in Delaware and plus [[spoiler:he's in love with his best friend, Midge]].
* AlphaBitch: Cynthia Ryerson in Season 1 before she gets [[PutOnABusToHell sent to a boarding school in England for being bad]].
** Brea [= DiMarco =] in Seasons 4-5, who also acts as a rival to Midge, for the affections of Grant.
* AlternateUniverse: In "Just Like Davina", Midge wishes that she had the looks and popularity of her older sister and ultimately wakes up in an alternate reality. Everyone's personality is different: The family is now upper-class; Midge is the most popular girl in school and is her parents' favorite child; Davina is a fat, ugly zit-faced slob with [[BracesOfOrthodonticOverkill braces]] and geeky glasses with no life of her own and she completely resents her sister's popularity altogether; Chauncey is the sweet, compassionate brother, while Garrett is a bratty deliquent who plays mean, horrible pranks on people; Bailey is the smartest kid alive and is now attending college and Farrah is a cynical, pessimistic {{Goth}} girl who's now a loner and her and Midge's friendship never even existed.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Anson's parents are extremely the worst offender.
** Midge's parents can also count.
* UsefulNotes/AmericanAccents: Averted. Although Farrah was born in Boston, she doesn't exactly speak with a Boston accent. Neither does her mom. It's justified since her mother was originally born in North Carolina.
** Anson's mom, Priscilla, speaks with a slight Midwestern accent.
* AnAesop: At the end of every episode.
** AesopAmnesia: Chauncey. He'll never learn that it's wrong to take advantage of or using people in his schemes to get what he wants.
%%* AndThatLittleGirlWasMe:
%%* AnimatedSeries
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Averted with Garrett and Bailey, who aren't as annoying as other siblings.
** Chauncey definitely takes the cake.
%%* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking:
* AscendedExtra: A lot of memorable minor recurring characters from Sunny Hills Middle School have made more than one appearance in the first season.
** Marianne appears in more than several episodes despite being credited as a recurring character.
** Roxanne and Lacey, the two head cheerleaders also get more episode appearances.
%%* AskAStupidQuestion JustForFun/GetAStupidAnswer:
* AuthorAppeal: Midge writes her very first best-selling book called ''Living In My Sister's Shadow'' which became a big hit and her start of becoming an author.
%%* AwfulTruth:
* AxCrazy: Averted with the elderly couple in the Season 1 HalloweenEpisode "No One Gets Out Alive". Midge, Farrah and Anson do a little trick-or-treating before going to the big Halloween Carnival downtown. They stop by an elderly couple's house to get candy, but they are soon invited into their home. The gang notices something weird about the couple and are desperate to get out. Turns out they're not actually crazy and are just keeping them company because their adult children has left home and they've never had any children stopping by their house very often. Though nothing bad happens to them, they finally leave out of there safe and sound.
* BabiesEverAfter: In the finale, Davina and Isaac announce that they're expecting twins.
%%* BabyTalk:
* BeachEpisode: The spring break and summer vacation episodes would sometimes take place on a beach.
* BeautifulAllAlong: Marianne. After Midge and Farrah give her a makeover, they tell her that she's always been a very beautiful girl on the inside and out.
* BeautyBrainsAndBrawn: Midge is the beauty, while Marianne has the brains, and Farrah is the brawny one, despite not being very strong or muscular, but in very good shape. It's even [[LampShadeHanging lampshaded]] by Farrah herself in one episode:
--> '''Farrah''': You've got the beauty, the brains, and brawn: Midge, you're the beautiful one, Marianne, you're the brainy one, and as for me, I'm the brawny one in the group, though I'm not exactly muscular, but in very good physical shape.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: In "Just Like Davina", Midge, tired of being overshadowed by her older sister's academic accomplishments, wishes on a shooting star that she had the looks and popularity of Davina. Her wish magically comes true when she wakes up in an alternate reality: Midge is the most beautiful, popular girl in school and is treated like royalty by her parents, while Davina is the fat, zit-faced ugly slob who's totally ignored by her parents and resents her sister's popularity; Chauncey is the nice, well-behaved brother, Garrett is the {{Jerkass}} deliquent who plays mean pranks on innocent kids, Bailey is a kid genius who has already accelerated herself into college and Farrah is a lonely, pessimistic {{Goth}} girl who writes depressing poems and her friendship with Midge has never even existed. Midge realizes that her wish wasn't the kind of wish that she wanted and decides to unwish it so she can have her old life back.
* BerserkButton: Farrah is a very sensitive person at heart. She would ultimately burst into tears when her old puppy, Patches, from her childhood that was [[spoiler:hit by a car and died from sudden injuries]], is mentioned right in front of her.
** Bailey extremely hates it when anyone says that Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy don't exist.
** When the kids started teasing Garrett about spending alot of time with his mother Irma, they start calling him a "momma's boy". Garrett really hates being called a "momma's boy" and would ultimately snap at anyone who ever calls him that.
* BettyAndVeronica: Midge (The Betty) and Brea (The Veronica) for Grant (The Archie). He chooses [[spoiler:Midge]].
** GenderFlipped with Anson (The Betty) and Evan (The Veronica) for Midge (The Archie). She chooses [[spoiler:Anson]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Garrett appears as a nice guy, but when he gets pushed around too much, especially by Chauncey, you'll definitely gonna regret it a lot later. Chauncey even learned that the hard way when Garrett snapped at him for pushing his buttons too much and [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech calling him out in front of his friends for his jerkass behavior]] in the process.
** He eventually snaps at his own mother when she wouldn't stop babying him right in front of his friends because he doesn't like being called a MommasBoy.
%%* BeQuietNudge
* BigApplesauce: Eliza is from Manhattan, UsefulNotes/NewYorkCity.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Garrett is very protective of Bailey. Chauncey can come off as this sometimes to his younger siblings.
* BigBrotherWorship: Garrett looks up to Chauncey the most, although he's not always the best guy.
** Bailey looks up to Garrett the most because of their seemingly close relationship.
* BigManOnCampus: Chauncey became incredibly popular in high school. He still maintained his popularity when he had to [[HeldBackInSchool repeat his senior year]] in the final season.
%%* BigNo:
* BigSisterInstinct: Davina definitely showed larger shades of being the protective big sister when she completely pummeled [[AlphaBitch Cynthia Ryerson]] into the ground at a party when she kept bullying her little sister Midge.
** Midge also has traits of this as well. When she found out that a random 18-year-old guy kept making inappropriate sexual advances towards her 14-year-old cousin Eliza, Midge inexplicably chucked her drink at him for it because she was underage.
* BigSisterWorship:
** Because of their close bond, Midge has always admired her older sister Davina her whole life.
** Bailey also admires both Midge and Davina respectively.
%%* BigWhat:
* BirdsOfAFeather: Marianne and Herman. The only thing that the two have in common is that they're both nerds.
%%* BirthdayEpisode: "Midge's Sweet 16" and "Midge's Sweet 18".
%%** Bailey also has a birthday episode.
%%* BitchInSheepsClothing: Cynthia's GirlPosse are this.
%%* {{Blackmail}}:
%%* BlatantLies:
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: You start with Midge, Davina, and Irma: the three are blondes; Midge's best friends, Farrah and Marianne, are both brunettes; making Bailey the only redhead.
** Tegan can sort of count as also being the redhead since her hair is dyed [[RoseHairedSweetie dark pink]].
* BookDumb: Bailey. Chauncey is this too, although it's a subversion in the final season.
%%* BookWorm: Marianne.
* [[GirlOfTheWeek Boy Of The Week]]: Midge, Farrah, and Davina would always have almost every different boyfriend or love interest in some episodes.
%%* TheBrainlessBeauty: Bailey.
%%* BrainyBrunette: Again, Marianne.
%%* BreadEggsBreadedEggs:
%%* BreakingTheFourthWall:
%%* BrickJoke:
* BrilliantButLazy: Chauncey. He may not be the most excellent student, but he's actually a very smart kid. It was revealed in the episode before the finale that he had a very high GPA and graduating with honors.
* BrokenBird: Farrah's mom, Wanda. After her husband died, she became depressed and broken over his death, causing her relationship with her daughter to be strained, but she gets better in the later seasons.
** Irma sadly falls into this trope after losing her baby in the womb. It took almost a while for her to get back on her feet, though she slowly gets better.
* TheBroCode: Garrett and Clyde have one of their guy rules about dating each others' sisters. He tells him that his sister is off limits and that she's not interested in him.
* BrotherSisterIncest: Garrett and Bailey, but more of a G-rated relationship. They have a very close relationship and I mean a ''very close relationship''. Garrett's overprotectiveness of Bailey prompts everyone to think that he's in love with her.
** Clyde, one of Garrett's best friends, develops a crush on Bailey. He asks him if he can go out with her, but Garrett gives him the MySisterIsOffLimits speech to him, mainly because of his overprotectiveness of her. He tells Bailey that his friend likes her and she says that she likes him back. Garrett had to do the right thing in order for her to make her happy, so he changes his mind by telling his friend that he could date her. He then tells him to go talk to her and he watches to two hitting it off. You can tell by the look on his face that he's kinda jealous of the two, but very happy that he did the right thing by [[IJustWantMyBelovedToBeHappy making his sister happy]].
** There was also one episode where they were mistaken as boyfriend and girlfriend.
%%* BumblingDad: Conrad.
* ButtMonkey: Poor, poor Garrett. Whenever Chauncey uses him for his little schemes, he always gets dragged into it.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Averted. The show is set and filmed in Cloverdale, California.
* CaliforniaUniversity: Midge and Farrah attend Berkley University after graduating high school.
%%* CallBack:
%%* TheCameo:
* CanadaEh: Season 9's one-hour ChristmasSpecial "A Very Canadian Christmas" had the family traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia over the holidays. The family experiences a culture shock while staying in another country during Christmas break by interacting with the locals and are eventually accustomed by what Canada has to offer.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: Chauncey would always get in trouble whenever it's pulling pranks, scheming, or sabotaging any relationship that Farrah has with a guy.
%%* TheCasanova: Chauncey.
* CassandraTruth: In the spring break episode, Chauncey catches Farrah's new love interest, Tad, making out with another girl on the beach with his camera. He tries to convince Midge that Tad is cheating on Farrah, but doesn't believe him at all because she thinks that he's jealous and he wants to sabotage any relationship that Farrah has with another guy. [[spoiler:He saw Tad making out with another girl that's not Farrah.]] He shows it to Midge and she actually believes him. Midge herself works up the courage to tell her best friend that Tad is a lying, cheating {{Jerkass}} who was only using Farrah to make his girlfriend jealous. [[spoiler:Tad finally gets caught by Farrah ''and'' his girlfriend and they both dump him.]] Farrah thanked both Midge and Chauncey respectively and Midge told her that Chauncey was the one that knew Tad was cheating on her this whole time.
* TheCastShowoff: Trestine Harper, Farrah's actress, is a talented singer. She shows off her singing skills in a few episodes.
** Creator/AmandaSchull is a former ballet dancer and even shows off her ballet skills in one episode.
* CatchPhrase: Farrah's "I Know Right?!"
** Carlene's "Oh, Anson!" and "Hey Anson!"
* CatFight: This happens between Davina and Cynthia in the episode where Midge has her first party at her house.
* CelebrityCrush: Farrah has a huge crush on singer Jordan Knight from Music/NewKidsOnTheBlock.
** Davina admits to having a crush on [[Series/{{Blossom}} Joey Lawrence]] and [[Series/GrowingPains Kirk Cameron]].
%%* CelebrityStar:
* ChainedToARailway: Garrett's so-called friends have him tied to a railroad track at a restricted box car site. They leave him there all alone in the dark tied to a railroad track counting down to hundred and a train is nowhere in sight. Luckily, he's saved by his siblings once the train almost nearly crushed his body.
* CharacterDevelopment: Just about every character on the show have all experienced development throughout the seasons. Midge is probably the best example of character development. She went from being an adolescent living in her sister's shadow and lacking any confidence in herself into a very successful young woman who's starting her career out as an author.
** Despite not being one of the most intelligent one in the family, Bailey has grown up to be more smarter and less naive in the later seasons.
** Garrett has pretty much branched out of being Chauncey's right hand man and ButtMonkey in the later seasons.
** Marianne went from being a nerdy ShrinkingViolet with NoSocialSkills into being more social and having more confidence in herself.
** Farrah's mom, Wanda, went from being [[BrokenBird sad and depressed]] to being more happy and spirited like her daughter.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Anson has always had a crush on Midge since preschool. He kept his crush on her a secret because he [[IDontWantToRuinOurFriendship didn't want to ruin his friendship with Midge]] and he was also afraid that she wouldn't feel the same way. She then finally realized that she was falling for him in the final season when [[TheBusCameBack Anson returns for good]] to tell her how he felt about her. They share their first kiss and end the series as a couple.
* ChildhoodFriends: Midge and Anson have been best friends since they were in preschool.
* ChristmasEpisode: The show had tons of Christmas episodes.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: A lot of notable characters from Midge's middle school Sunny Hills have all disappeared from the show without explanation.
** Even Cynthia's GirlPosse "The Cynthiettes" aren't seen or mentioned again after their rare appearance in the first episode of the second season.
** Jodie Pearson, Midge and Farrah's roomate, disappears almost at the very end of Season 8 without further mentioning of her whereabouts.
* CityMouse: Farrah was born in Boston's South-End Neighborhood in Massachussetts.
** Eliza, Midge's rich cousin, is from the upper eastside neighborhood of UsefulNotes/NewYorkCity.
* ClassReunion: In the episode "Party Over Here", Irma and Conrad go out of town this weekend to attend Irma's 30th annual high school reunion in Irma's hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah.
* ClassTrip: Midge, Farrah and Anson go on a field trip with their 8th grade class to the National Flight Academy in the Season 1 episode titled "Field Trip". HilarityEnsues.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Carlene Gibson shows shades of this with anything concerning Anson being involved with another girl.
** Brea [= DiMarco =] is also this in regards to her ex-boyfriend Grant, who is Midge's LoveInterest.
* ClipShow: "The Best of My Family And Me". This episode aired a week before the SeriesFinale. It showed best moments, bloopers, and outtakes from the series and it was hosted by the cast.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Bailey. Farrah also has her moments of this.
%%* ComingOfAgeStory
* CompanionCube: Bailey treats her dolls and stuffed animals like they're her real friends and would talk to them occasionally.
* ConcertClimax: Midge and Farrah go to a Music/NewKidsOnTheBlock concert in one episode.
** Davina and Bailey go to a Series/HannahMontana concert in one episode.
* ContinuityNod: Bailey said that she wants a pony for Christmas. In the following ChristmasEpisode, she gets a pony.
** Anson and Midge's AlmostKiss moment under the misteltoe from the first season ChristmasEpisode was later brought up in the final season by Anson when he asked her if she remembered when they almost kissed and she responded that she does remember.
** In Season 1, Farrah gives Midge matching [[FriendshipTrinket friendship bracelets]]. Came in the series finale, Midge is shown to be wearing the exact same bracelet on her wrist that Farrah gave her years back and Farrah also wearing hers.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: After finding out about the party their kids threw while they were away at Irma's high school reunion, Conrad and Irma punish them by having them go to a karaoke bar and watch them sing to their favorite disco songs from TheSeventies and having their kids perform with them too.
%%* CoolBigSister: Davina. Midge is also this to Garrett, Bailey and Chauncey.
* CoolCar: Midge gets a yellow sports car in one episode. Davina also has a similar sports car that's red.
%%* CoolOldLady / CoolOldGuy: Midge's maternal grandparents.
* CrazyHomelessPeople: In one episode, Irma is called in for jury duty to testify against a homeless man who robbed a bank downtown. The jury then implies that every homeless person who's ever committed ridiculous crimes in the past are all insane and mentally ill.
* CrazyJealousGuy: Chauncey. Whenever Farrah would have a new boyfriend or love interest, he becomes this and will do anything to sabotage any guy that Farrah starts to fall for or have a relationship with.
** Also Anson, whenever Midge is showing an interest in another guy or dating them.
* CreditCardPlot: Midge gets her first credit card in one episode which she takes advantage of by spending on unimportant things like cute clothes and shoes. She learns a valuable lesson about using her credit card responsibly and using it for emergencies only.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Anson's light brown hair matches his light brown eyes.
* DaddysGirl: Farrah has always had a very close bond with her father right before he died.
** Cynthia has her dad wrapped around her finger whenever she wants something.
* DanceOfRomance: Anson and Midge in the Literature/{{Cinderella}} themed DreamSequence.
%%** Also in the prom episode "Dancing The Night Away".
** At the end of the WeddingEpisode with everyone, including Davina and Isaac, slow dancing at the reception.
%%* DancePartyEnding: In "Midge's Sweet 16" and "Sweet 18".
%%* {{Dandere}}: Marianne.
* DarkerAndEdgier: The PilotMovie ''My Sister And Me'' was a rather dark and dramatic TV film due to the plot mainly being about Midge's parents dying in a car accident, having to live with her older sister Davina, who has a bit of a [[WildChild wild streak]] and [[spoiler:[[AttemptedRape nearly being raped]] by an older man]] took things way to the extreme.
** The later seasons kind of sort of lost it's kid-friendly theme once Midge and Farrah started attending college and the kids were getting older and starting high school.
** Even the [[VerySpecialEpisode very special episodes]] were this as well.
* DateRapeAverted: This happens to Bailey on her date with Stanley when she's at his appartment. She tries to escape, but Stanley grabs her and falls onto his couch. He tries to rape her while making out with her, but luckily, the police and her siblings arrive ontime when he almost tried to rape her.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Davina starts dating Craig in Season 3, an older man whose in his late 30's. Irma and Conrad strongly disapproved of her dating him because of his age, but slowly start to accept him.
* DeadpanSnarker: Chauncey. He has his ways of making snarky comments about anything and always making fun of his siblings. Midge even has nicknames for him.
** Davina also has quite the few snarks of her own, though not as sharp-tongued like Chauncey.
%%* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment:
* DerailingLoveInterests: Midge, Farrah, and Davina have all had quite a few love interests that turn out to be total busts.
** The most infamous example was when Farrah's love interest, Tad, already had a girlfriend while seeing Farrah. Chauncey even pointed out that he was cheating on his girlfriend with Farrah.
* DescriptionCut: It has a few of these as well.
** In one episode, Irma travels back home to Utah to attend her 30th annual high school reunion and one of her former classmates asked her what are her kids up to. She responds that they're being good kids and are not throwing a party. Cut to the Mayhan household where there ''is'' a party going on that's getting out of hand.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: Midge. This is actually the main point of the show. She tries to find something that she's great in so she wouldn't have to be overshadowed by her older sister's success.
* DisappearedDad: Farrah's father died when she was only 11.
%%* DisproportionateRetribution:
%%* TheDitz: Bailey. Farrah can easily be this at times.
%%* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything:
%%* DoggedNiceGirl: Farrah towards Levi. Carlene towards Anson.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Anson towards Midge and Chauncey towards Farrah.
%%* DoubleEntendre:
* DoubleStandard: Midge and Farrah get a job at a fast food restaurant to earn extra money to get a new car. [[spoiler:They discover that their boss, who is actually a female, pays the male employees more money than the female employees]].
* DreamSequence: This would frequently happen in several episodes.
** The most memorable one would have to be where Anson daydreams that he was slow dancing with Midge. the dream sequence looked like a Literature/{{Cinderella}} themed one: Anson was prince charming and Midge was dressed as Literature/{{Cinderella}}. The name of the song that was playing in the background was "For You I Will" by R&B singer Monica. They almost share a passionate kiss when slow dancing during the dream sequence, but was interrupted by Carlene.
** Chauncey also had the same dream sequence when he was slow dancing with Farrah. The same song was also playing in the background as well.
** And another one when he has a dream about being a superhero.
%%* DropInCharacter: Farrah.
* DumbBlonde: Bailey's the redheaded version of this. Surprisingly, almost every blonde character has averted this trope.
* DumbIsGood: Despite not being the most intelligent, Bailey is hardly ever a brat at all like most younger siblings.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Despite the show being about Midge and her family, the first season kind of dealt with typical middle school issues and antics that Midge and her friends got into, even having some of her Sunny Hills Middle School classmates making frequent guest appearances.
** Farrah's appearance in Season 1 was totally different as well: She wore braces and had short, brown hair with blonde highlights. She would normally wear her hair in weird, wackier styles and her wardrobe choices would consist of bright, colorful outfits that represents her bright personality with leggings or stockings included.
** The first season was still in it's [[TheNineties 90's]] nostalgic stage with the outfits and constant talk about pop culture that happened in that decade.
* EmbarrassingMiddleName: Davina's middle name is Penelope. She hates her middle name so much that she begged the minister not to say it during her wedding ceremony, but her mother witnessed that he forgot to say her middle name because ministers are supposed to say the [[FullNameBasis full names]] of the bride and groom when marrying them. When he said it, everyone started to laugh a little, including Isaac, and Davina muttered to herself saying "Thanks alot, Mom!".
%%* EmbarrassingOldPhoto:
* EmptyNest: In the Season 1 HalloweenEpisode, the elderly couple, who traps Midge and her friends in their home, are parents of adult children who have already moved out of their home, leaving their home completely empty. Since their children don't visit them very often, they would invite trick-or-treaters inside their home so they could have company.
** Subverted in the SeriesFinale where the three eldest Mayhan kids move out of the house and leave California. Irma and Conrad don't really have a empty nest right now since they still have Garrett and Bailey to look after, but Irma starts to feel emotional right after her three eldest children depart from their home.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Farrah towards Davina respectively. When Midge shows a picture of Davina to Farrah in the living room, Farrah's response was "Wowwwww!!! She looks so gorgeous!!!". She kept staring at her picture for about two minutes because she was lost in her beauty.
** Even when she meets her for the first time, the look on her face tells you that she's drooling all over her. She even compliments on her beauty by saying "When Midge told me how beautiful you were, she definitely wasn't lying". Davina was actually flattered by her compliment.
** Made even more so in the third season when Davina's actress was replaced by Creator/AmandaSchull. When Farrah sees the difference in Davina's appearance, she says that she still looks mighty gorgeous and beautiful just like she was in the beginning.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Only Anson's family can actually tell that he's in love with Midge, although he keeps it a secret by denying it all the time.
%%* EveryoneLovesBlondes
* {{Expy}}: Midge's personality is somewhat similar to Series/LizzieMcGuire without the klutziness and cartoon counterpart.
** Davina has alot in common with both [[WesternAnimation/HeyArnold Olga Pataki]] and [[Series/EvenStevens Ren Stevens]]. The three being very smart and perfect, but Davina is not as neurotic and melodramatic like Olga when it comes to getting good grades.
** Chauncey kinda reminds everyone of both [[Series/SavedByTheBell Zack Morris]] and [[Series/LifeWithDerek Derek Venturi]]. He shares the same qualities of manipulating his friends or siblings like Zack and behaving like a {{Jerkass}} CasanovaWannabe like Derek. Did I mention that they're both [[BrilliantButLazy pretty smart, despite not actually doing any schoolwork]]? He also can be reminded of [[Series/TheSuiteLifeOfZackAndCody Zack Martin]].
** Garrett is similar to [[Series/TheSuiteLifeOfZackAndCody Cody Martin]].
** Cynthia shares the same personalities of [[Series/LizzieMcGuire Kate Sanders]] and [[Series/ANTFarm Lexi Reed]], with being very mean and stuck-up towards others.
** Bailey resembles [[WesternAnimation/AngelaAnaconda Candy May]].
* ExtracurricularEnthusiast: Davina was in almost in every after-school club back in high school.
* FamilyThemeNaming: The Mayhans siblings all have names that has the letter "A" in them.
* TheFashionista: Davina. Even though her outfits consisted of provocative clothing and midriff baring tops in the earlier seasons, she still knows how to dress properly and keep up with the latest trends.
** Cynthia Ryerson non stop.
* FeudEpisode: It had several of these involving Midge and Farrah getting into an arguement and not speaking to each other, even though they would make up at the end.
** In the three-parter episode "New Best Friend", Midge becomes worried when her and Farrah are spending way too much time together and are [[LimitedSocialCircle lacking friends with other people]]. They both agree to start spending less time with each other and start hanging out with other people: Midge quickly strikes a friendship with the nerdy, BookWorm Marianne while Farrah finds friends in her popular cheerleader pals, Roxanne and Lacey. They've become so incredibly attached to their new friends that they've now started to forget about each other and their whereabouts. This results in an argument between the two in when Midge and Farrah come to realize that they've found some common ground with their new friends and are happier than ever, abruptly ending their friendship for good, [[spoiler:Well, at least for a while until they start to realize how much they miss each other and eventually make up afterwards, resulting them in becoming B.F.F.s again in the third part]].
* FlashBack: The series would sometimes show flashbacks of the family's early beginnings and memories.
** The SeriesFinale did this when it showed flashbacks of the previous seasons from the series and early childhood memories of the characters.
** The episode "That 90's Show" was actually a flashback of what the family looked like back in the early 90's.
* FlashBackWithTheOtherDarrin: Very rare in sitcoms, but the show once featured flashbacks of the two actresses who portrayed Davina.
* FlashForward: The SeriesFinale fast forwards to 5 months later where Midge is in Cinncinati, living the dream as a book publisher. She shares an apartment complex with her boyfriend [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Anson]] and still keeps in contact with her best friend Farrah, who's in Europe pursuing a modeling career.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Chauncey is the foolish one to Garrett's responsible.
* FreudianExcuse: Surprisingly, Cynthia actually has one: Her parents went through a very bad divorce and her father was later remarried to a much younger woman, whom she doesn't get along with. She rarely sees her mother because her dad granted full custody of her.
%%* FreudianSlip:
* FreudianTrio: Midge (TheKirk), Farrah (TheSpock) and Anson (TheMcCoy).
** After Anson leaves, Marianne now takes on the role as TheMcCoy in Season 4.
* FriendshipMoment: The moments between Midge and Farrah happens every so often in any episode, even when they have their little fights.
** In the final part of "New Best Friend", Midge serenades to Farrah at the football game in hopes of trying to rekindle her friendship with her. Farrah also sings along with her and apologizes to Midge about their broken friendship. Everyone there says "AWWWWWW" while the two are hugging each other.
* FriendshipTrinket: Farrah makes matching friendship bracelets for her and Midge to symbolize their friendship. She gives Midge one in the first season.
* FullyAutomaticClipShow: This was also featured in the finale. Anson and Midge both comment on how Farrah has always said "I Know, Right!" for the past 9 years. It showed various clips of her saying her catch phrase, including her first appearance. Farrah came to realize that it's an irritating habit that she has and avoids saying it, though she says it one more time.
** There were also clips of Bailey always mispronouncing big words that she's never heard of and asking other people what they mean.
* TheFunInFuneral: The family travel to Utah to attend Irma's distant cousin's funeral, whom the family barely knew. The funeral went from sad and depressing into a hilarious event where the family are mingling with their other relatives and a lot of unusual things are going on.
* FunWithAcronyms: Midge's full name Melina Amelia Mayhan. It can also easily be spelled and pronounced "MAM".
* GameShowAppearance: Midge and Farrah go on a game show called ''Friend or Foe'', while Chauncey and Garrett go on a game show called ''Spin That Wheel''.
%%* GRatedSex:
* GenderBlenderName: Milly, Anson's little brother. His name is actually short for Milton.
* GenderSeparatedEnsembleEpisode: One episode had the Mayhan sisters (including Farrah) spending quality time with their mother at a day spa, while the brothers have a father/son fishing trip with their father.
* GenreShift: The show's PilotMovie ''My Sister and Me'' was more of a drama flick, but as soon as the producers from Creator/{{YTV}} picked it up as a series in mid-1997, the genre changed to a comedy series.
%%* GenkiGirl: Farrah.
* GilliganCut: The series has a lot of this. In the premiere episode of the third season, Midge and Farrah try to find a replacement best friend for Anson after he and his family move away over the summer. Midge tells Farrah that they're not going to hold auditions for a search of their next best friend:
--> '''Midge''': Farrah, we are not going to hold auditions for a replacement best friend for Anson. ''(cuts to the audtions)'' I cannot believe that we are holding auditions for a replacement best friend for Anson.
* GirlPosse: Cynthia had one in the first season called "The Cynthiettes".
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Bailey has a bunch of stuffed animals in her room.
** Farrah does as well.
* GlamorousSingleMother: Wanda Nightingale, though she then starts dating in the later seasons.
* TheGlassesGotToGo: Marianne decides that she's done wearing her old glasses and gets laser-eye surgery to avoid wearing contacts.
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Subverted with Midge and Davina. Despite having a close relationship, there has been moments of rivalry between the two sisters whenever it's competing with each other to find out who's Bailey's favorite sister or in academics.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: Midge has them appear on her shoulders in a couple of episodes, acting as her good conscience and bad conscience.
%%* GoodParents: Irma and Conrad.
* GoshDangItToHeck: The series tries to avoid using curse words, but the word "hell" was used a couple of times in different episodes, only referring to something that's bad or a living nightmare.
** There's been times where the characters said "God" instead of "Gosh".
** Before Davina and Cynthia got into a brawl, they exchange insults towards each other. Cynthia calls Davina a "blonde bimbo" and she almost called Cynthia a bitch by saying this:
--> '''Davina''': Why don't you pick on someone your own size you ungrateful little...''witch!!!''
** Averted in the TV Movie ''My Sister And Me'', with it's [[DarkerAndEdgier dramatic and mild theme]], the words "hell", "damn" and other curse words (barring the dirty words) were also used in the movie.
%%* GrandFinale
* GroupHug: Midge, Anson and Farrah do this in the second season finale before Anson leaves with his family to Delaware.
** The whole Mayhan family shares a big one in some episodes and in the series finale.
* GrowingUpSucks: Midge and Farrah come to the realization about this when they both start college together. They realize that even though that college can be fun, there's still alot of responsibilities and pressure that comes with it of being independent and reaching adulthood. But it's a subversion when they say that as long as they have each other that growing up may not be as hard as it has to be.
* HalfIdenticalTwins: Milly and Tilly, Anson's 6-year-old identical twin brother and sister.
%%* HalloweenEpisode: Tons of these.
* HappilyAdopted: Averted. Although she's not actually adopted, Bailey just assumes that she is because she's the [[HollywoodGenetics only one in the family with red hair]]. She even goes on this bogus journey to find [[Series/ThePartridgeFamily Danny Bonaduce]], her so-called "biological father" to see if he's her real father. Turns out that he's not her real father and that it she is the biological daughter of both Conrad and Irma.
%%* HappilyMarried: Irma and Conrad.
%%** Davina and Isaac in Season 7.
* TheHecateSisters: The Mayhan Sisters are this: Midge is the Maiden, Davina is the Mother and Bailey is the Crone.
* HeelFaithTurn: Midge in "Are You There God, It's Me Midge" when she discovers her faith in God and finding the true meaning of Christianity.
* HeldBackInSchool: Chauncey had to repeat his senior year in the final season because of lacking any credits, [[spoiler:though it's averted that he's actually pretty intelligent]].
** Due to her stupidity and having a half a brain, Bailey was almost on the verge of getting held back in the 8th grade because of her poor grades. It's finally averted when she does pass all of her classes and gets transferred to the 9th grade.
%%* HeterosexualLifePartners: Midge and Farrah.
* HiddenDepths: Midge has great musical talent as well as playing the piano.
** Despite lacking athletic abilities, she's also a great volleyball player.
** Garrett happens to be a very good chess player, even beating Chauncey at his game.
** Bailey might not be the sharpest tool in the shed or the best singer, but is a very good hula-hooper at heart, can do a hand stand and is great at sign language.
** Davina admits that she's not at all perfect and would generally get annoyed when anyone calls her perfect.
** Despite having a cheerful demeanor, Farrah is very sensitive at heart. She would sometimes cry whenever she thinks about her father and openly admit that she misses him so much.
* HighSchoolDance: Has several, including a middle school dance in the first season, also.
* HighSchoolSweethearts: Davina and Isaac, who dated a long time ago back in high school, though they've broken up when they realize during their senior year that a long-distance relationship wasn't going to work, actually get married in the Season 7 finale.
%%* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
* HollywoodGenetics: Midge, Davina and Garrett inherited their blonde hair and bright-colored eyes from Irma (who's a blonde hair, blue-eyed lady) while Chauncey inherited his brown hair and brown eyes from Conrad (who also has brown hair and brown eyes). Which leaves Bailey, being the only redheaded child in the family, but Bailey has green eyes as well, so she must've inherited them from Irma, but where did she get red hair from?
** This was actually discussed at one point when Chauncey once asked how Bailey ended up being the only sibling with red hair. Neither of the family had no clue, but they kept making up theories: Midge and Davina blantantly lied and said that they're both natural redheads and that their hair colors changed when they both stood outside in the sun too long as kids, Chauncey jokingly said that she might've been adopted and that [[Series/ThePartridgeFamily Danny Bonaduce]] is her real father and Garrett says that red hair is a recessive gene. Bailey actually believed Chauncey and assumed that she ''is'' adopted when in fact that she's not. Conrad and Irma both took DNA tests to find out about their ancestries and found out that they both have Irish ancestors, so this could actually explain where Bailey gotten red hair from.
*** Chauncey took another jab about Bailey's lack of intelligence:
--> '''Chauncey''': The one thing that Bailey didn't inherit from Mom and Dad is brains.
* HollywoodToneDeaf: Bailey. She claims that she's a very good singer, but when she belted out the national anthem, her voice sounds really terrible.
%%* {{Homage}}:
%%* HumiliationConga:

%%* HypocriticalHumor:
* IDontWantToRuinOurFriendship: When Midge asked Anson why he never told her how he felt about her, he said it was because it would ruin their friendship since he was Midge's only friend and that he was afraid that she wouldn't like him back.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Midge's maternal grandparents have a lively spirit as being the cool, fun-loving grandparents who the kids can relate to.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Garrett saw how much his best friend Clyde really liked Bailey and he sets him up with her. Bailey also likes him, too, prompting Garrett to let her be happy with dating his friend.
* ImGoingToDisneyWorld: In the episode where Midge gets a brand new car, Farrah asks her where they should go on their little adventure, Midge suggests that they should make a quick stop at Disneyland by saying "TO DISNEYLAND!!!"
** At the end of the episode, Midge and Farrah are making their way back from Disneyland and this time, Bailey joins them since she always wanted to go to Disneyland once Midge got a new car. Farrah realizes that she has left her purse at Disneyland and insists that they should go back their to retrieve her purse so no one would steal it. Midge says "BACK TO DISNEYLAND!!!" and the girls scream with excitement, knowing they will stay a little longer to ride more rides.
%%* ImagineSpot: This occurs in several episodes.
* InformedAttractiveness: Midge repeatedly states that Davina is the most beautiful girl on this planet, even outwardly saying that she was Cloverdale High's "Most Beautiful Girl" back in the day. Compared to all the other female characters that have shown up on the show with good looks and physical appearances, Davina definitely has some serious competition with them.
%%* TheIngenue: Bailey.
* InSeriesNickname: Bailey's nickname on the show is "Little Red", whom her siblings call her sometimes because she's a natural redhead. She's had other nicknames besides "Little Red" such as "Literature/RedRidingHood", "Red Robin Hood", "Ginger", "Film/GingerSnaps", "[[Music/SpiceGirls Ginger Spice]]", "Literature/PippiLongstocking", "Freckles" and "WesternAnimation/StrawberryShortcake".
** Midge's nickname for Chauncey would either be "Snarky Snark" or anything with the word "Snark" in them whenever Chauncey would make a snarky comment.

* InspirationallyDisadvantaged: The young deaf campers at Camp Warm Springs For The Deaf are this.
%%* IronicEcho:
* ItsAllAboutMe: Cynthia is very conceited and self-centered and thinks the whole universe always revolves around her.
* IvyLeagueForEveryone: Davina got accepted to so many top colleges like Harvard, Yale and Princeton, but chose to go to Standford instead.
** Marianne gets into the prestigous school called Brown University.
** Midge and Farrah both apply to Prescott College, a prestigous school in Arizona. Midge gets in, but Farrah doesn't. Midge decides not to go to Prescott because Farrah didn't get in, but Farrah insists that Midge should go to Prescott because she deserves to go and that she doesn't want to be the one holding her back.
** Garrett gets an early acceptance letter to Cornell University in the finale.
* {{Jerkass}}: Chauncey. He can be a real asshole whether he's using his little brother or his friends for his schemes or making fun of his siblings.
** Cynthia is a nasty, snobby bitch who's incredibly mean and selfish to others.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Chauncey may come off as petty and obnoxious, but deep down, he does have a good heart and would sometimes help out his siblings.
%%* JewishAndNerdy: Levi Resnick.
* LampshadeHanging: The family's constant comments on the difference with Davina's physical appearance in the third season. When Davina comes back from her trip to Africa, [[TheOtherDarrin Davina's actress is now portrayed by Creator/AmandaSchull]]. But when she arrives at their door step, the family looks rather shocked when they first see her. They keep saying that there's something different about her, but she keeps telling that she still looks the same.
* LetsHaveAnotherBaby: Irma, to a certain extent. She felt that five children wasn't enough for a big family, so she decided that her and Conrad should try for one more. She finally becomes pregnant with her sixth child, but [[spoiler:loses her baby in the womb]].
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Conrad and Chauncey. When Conrad was younger, he also played sports back in school; the same thing with Chauncey. In high school, Conrad was the most popular guy in school; the same with Chauncey. No wonder Conrad [[ParentalFavoritism favors Chauncey]] way more than his other kids.
* LimitedSocialCircle: In the first two seasons, it was just Midge, Farrah and Anson, but when the third season came, it was just only Midge and Farrah. Once Farrah joined the cheer squad, she branched out and made friends with Roxanne and Lacey and when Marianne became a recurring character in that same season, she starts hanging out with the two girls from the fourth to the fifth seasons.
* LittleBoySeeksBigGirl: Chauncey towards Farrah in the earlier seasons.
* LittlestCancerPatient: Kinsey, Bailey's friend, who has leukemia.
* LonelyRichKid: Eliza, well sort of. Although she has plenty of friends back at home in UsefulNotes/NewYorkCity, she doesn't exactly have a real close bond with them because they're more shallow and materialistic than she is, which is why she disdains herself from them.
* LongLostUncleAesop: Kinsey, Bailey's friend from school, has leukemia.
** Lydia, one of Midge's classmates, is in a abusive relationship with her boyfriend.
** Garrett's friend Wyatt, who's basically a target for the constant teasing and bullying about his mother's [[WeightWoe weight problems]].
** Irma's second cousin Patrick, whom the family barely knew, dies unexpectedly.
** Chauncey's friend Trent suffers from [[LIsForDyslexia dyslexia]].
* TheMakeover / MakeoverMontage: Used in the episode where Midge, Davina and Farrah give their nerdy friend Marianne a totally hot new makeover.
* MakeWayForThePrincess: When Cynthia enters the room, everyone tries to stay out of her way without her getting upset.
* MamaBear: Irma. She took it to the extreme when she found out about Bailey's meeting with Stanley, who was a pedophile that tried to rape her, by threatening him if he ever does this kind of stuff again he'll get what's coming to him in the future. Stanley was so frightened that he didn't say a word after that.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Tegan is this zany, free-spirited teenage girl who yearns for adventure. She finds interest in Garrett, who's this uptight, nerdy outsider who's never had a real girlfriend. [[OppositesAttract Despite their different personalities, they eventually hit it off]].
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Tegan's the crazed, tomboyish chick while Garrett's the nerdy, uptight StraightMan.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Midge is the middle child of five siblings while Anson is the fifth child of seven siblings.
** Technically, it runs in both of their families as to having more than one or two siblings.
* MayDecemberRomance: Davina and Craig. She's only 17 years younger than him, which doesn't sit well with her parents.
** The movie ''My Sister And Me'' had Davina dating a man who was 18 years her senior, who later turns out to be [[spoiler:a registered sex offender]].
* MeaningfulName: Midge's birth name, Melina, means "bright yellow" in Greek, which would give the explanation of her being born a natural blonde. We can assume that her parents were expecting their unborn daughter to have bright blonde hair and decided to name her Melina to symbolize her being a natural blonde.
** Davina's name means "beloved" or "cherished" in English.
** Levi's name means "one who accompanies or attends" in Hebrew.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Midge happily averts this trope quite well. Her family does acknowledge her existence in the household and she is actually [[spoiler:[[ParentalFavoritism her mother's favorite child]]]].
* MommasBoy: Garrett's BerserkButton in one episode. He starts spending a lot of time with Irma and is unexpectedly called a "momma's boy" by his friends. Once Irma shows up at his school unexpectedly because he left his lunchbox at home and tries to give him a kiss goodbye, he eventually snaps at her for treating him like baby and making him feel more like a wuss in front of his friends.

The two share a passionate kiss and finally becoming a couple for the rest of the final season.
** Farrah also, was totally unaware that she was the object of his affections. Midge, on the other hand, knew about his crush on her and blatantly told her about it. Farrah thought it was cute that Chauncey has a crush on her, much to Midge's horror:
--> '''Midge''': Farrah, are you aware that my little brother has a crush on you?

* ReTool: The PilotMovie ''My Sister And Me''. It was about Midge, a 12-year-old girl from Baltimore, losing both of her parents in a car accident and having to live with her older sister Davina in Santa Monica, California. The movie was way too dramatic and dark, but once it got picked up as a series, the whole concept was completely rewritten to Midge being born and raised in Cloverdale instead of Baltimore, the show's [[GenreShift genre being changed from a drama to a comedy]], Midge having four siblings instead of one and her parents still living instead of deceased.
* TheRival: Brea [= DiMarco =] for Midge in Seasons 4-5. Whether it's vying for the affections of Grant or some other things.
%%* RomanticFalseLead: Evan for Midge.
* RunningGag: This show is full of them:
** Everytime Chauncey makes a snarky comment, his siblings would always tell him to shut up or hurt him in any way.
** When anytime someone would say a particular word to or around Bailey that she's never heard of, she would always ask others what that particular word mean.
** The family keeps saying there's something different about Davina in the third season.
** The girls' failed attempts to score Music/NewKidsOnTheBlock tickets and going to their concerts.
* SadistTeacher: Mrs. Hinshaw, Chauncey's teacher who always gives her students a hard time by yelling at them and giving them too much homework. Chauncey even makes a false accusation about her that she [[spoiler:threatened to kill him]] if he didn't do his book report and gets her fired for it.

* SecondEpisodeIntroduction: Farrah doesn't make her first official appearance until the second episode.
* SecretDiary: According to Midge's grandma, Irma once had a secret diary kept hidden when she was a kid.
* SerenadeYourLover: Well, more like serenade your best friend. Midge did this by singing what appears to be a love song to Farrah at the football game in a way of trying to rekindle her friendship with her.
* SeriesContinuityError: Davina's birthday. In the first season, Davina is said to be 20-years-old, but Irma mentioned in the fourth season that Davina was born in the fall of 1978. While her exact date of birth (besides her birth year) was never given, anyone could guess that it's in one of the three fall months (September, October or November).
%%* ShoutOut:
* SiblingsWanted: Farrah. She's hates being an only child and has always wanted siblings. The Mayhans treat her like she's part of the family since she drops by every once in a while.
* SickEpisode: The entire family gets sick in this episode. Davina, who's the only member of the family that's not sick, has to be the one nursing them back to health.
* SingleTargetSexuality: In the earlier seasons, Chauncey can't imagine being with any other girl other than Farrah. That goes away in the sixth season when he starts dating Nori, but still has lingering feelings towards Farrah.
