WesternAnimation.Raya And The Last Dragon
- Darker and Edgier: While there is some humor and levity in the film and the story ends on a hopeful note, the initial setting is bleak and despairing. Petrified remains litter the landscape as most of the population has fallen victim to the Drunn, and those that remain are isolated and generally distrustful of each other.
I believe it needs to explain what it's Darker and Edgier compared to in order to count.
- Never My Fault: After being beaten by Raya during their final fight in the Fang castle, Namaari calls out to Raya that "you're as much to blame for Sisu's death as I am" which is blatantly inaccurate. While it can be debated that Namaari wasn't intending to actually shoot her crossbow and Raya's defensive actions caused the tragic misfire, this completely ignores the fact that Namaari brought a crossbow to the peace meeting in the first place. Whatever goodwill Namaari accrued from coming alone and bringing the dragon gem fragment was immediately wiped out when she drew her weapon and she never accepts responsibility for doing this just as she never acknowledges how much her betrayal hurt Raya.
This sounds more like Unintentionally Unsympathetic if she's not treated as in the wrong for such. And that Namaari invoked Please Kill Me if It Satisfies You implies yes she is aware that this is her fault. At least it seems a bit complainy as written. (If Never My Fault is not YMMV does it have to be intentional?)
I asked Is this an example? awhile back but got nothing. Thoughts?
openQuotes page has real suicide notes on it
So, while doing a Wiki Walk, I stumbled across Quotes.Goodbye Cruel World, and immediately noticed the fact that it has real-life suicide notes on it. And this isn’t just one or two quotes, either, it’s over half the page. While I do understand that other quote pages have real-life quotes, it just feels very uncomfortable reading the suicide note of a real person who killed themself. Should the real-life quotes be removed?
Edited by idonomopenTroper adding ZCEs
On July 17th, I sent a notifier to analogtime for adding Zero-Context Examples to Dave the Barbarian. While they did acknowledge it by rewriting their examples, today they've added more ZCEs both to the show's main article and the Characters page.
openAlternative Character Interpretation page (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) Western Animation
I am trying to create an Alternative Character Interpretation page for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. However, it appears that it was previously cut for being unnecessary. The cut page then instructed me to ask a question on the Ask The Tropers page. There is currently a large amount of entries associated with this trope on TCW's YMMV page and I feel it would be more better that they should be a separate page. Does anyone believe that it is safe for me to please recreate the Alternative Character Interpretation page for Star Wars: The Clone Wars?
Edited by Thetropemaster101openGenre Killer without potholing Live Action TV
Midna just removed and commented out some sentences from Horrible.Live Action TV, claiming "these are related to Genre-Killer which has a waiting limit of one decade." However, note that neither of them were actually potholed to Genre-Killer. They might still be speculative, but couldn't it just be reworded to acknowledge the downward trend in shows (ABC no longer producing "mancession" shows after 2012, the Brit Com format losing popularity since 2013) without declaring the genre officially "dead"?
openDiscussion of "Pivotal Boss" and the troping of video-game enemies
There's a discussion ongoing in the Trope Repair Shop, regarding the trope "Pivotal Boss" and the troping of video-game enemies. The section of the thread to which this post is related starts with this post, I believe.
(The thread is long-ish, I think, and most of it doesn't cover the part of the topic in question, as I recall, hence my linking to that post rather than the first.)
Specifically, the discussion right now is on the matter of how to approach the troping of enemies: should we have complex, specific tropes like "Pivotal Boss", or simpler, more-atomic tropes that might be used to build up complex tropings?
That is, is it better for example to have "Pivotal Boss", or to have "Boss Battle" + "Stationary Enemy" + "Rotating Enemy"?
Alas, however, right now there are only three somewhat-active participants, two of whom have agreed on an approach, and one of whom dissents. The discussion could thus perhaps use some fresh eyes on the topic.
Hence this notice, calling for more people in the thread!
openDead Fic vs Left Hanging
What is the difference between Dead Fic vs Left Hanging other than the former is a fanfic trope. I've seen fanworks use one or the other interchangeably. I have some fics I want to add these to and I'm trying to figure which fits best.
Offhand, It seems Left Hanging is when the writer officially confines the fic is dead, and Dead Fic is when they've seemingly forgotten is such they don't even bother to announce it's death.
I recall something like this being asked before but I can't recall where.
openMisgendering troper
On DethroningMoment.Web Original, mightymewtron edited several Jimquisition-related entries to use they/them pronouns (Jim identifies as non-binary). However, emilefl (who originally wrote one of those entries) changed the pronouns in the entry they wrote back to he/him.
Edited by KUnlimitedopenContent Leak note Videogame
So, on VideoGame.NEO The World Ends With You, there was a hidden note about content leaks, as with other upcoming and ongoing works such as Manga. One Piece. However, it was removed by The Extractor, who said that only mods can add comments reminding people that troping leaked content is forbidden. However, the note can be added by anyone for ongoing and upcoming works.
That said, what is the best way to deal with the situation?
Edited by gjjonesopenDan Schneider...
So Troper.Jeneral 28 has been editing in unverifed reports of sexual abuse from creator Creator.Dan Schneider. For those not in the know, he's created a bunch of popular children's shows but I think as of the #MeToo movement, he's become a Memetic Molester due to the adult Radar moments in the show, and a lot of Foot Focus. He was even let go from Nickelodeon, but according to this article it was for verbal abuse and being difficult to work with and there was no sexual misconduct reported (the verbal abuse is enough that he shouldn't be working around children, but that's my opinion).
Jeneral 28 keeps editing in these allegations despite the fact that to this day, no actor that Schneider worked with has ever accused him of sexual misconduct and in the dicussion page, they link to this article for an unnaccredited blog with a lot of "he MAY have done this" type writing. Far be it from me to clear the reputation of an abusive boss but for the pages, I would like for pages to be truthful at least so they may need to be talked to.
openEditing Recently Launched Pages
I recently tried to launch a page, and after looking over the suggestions in the comments, I've tried to edit it, but the system won't allow me to do so.
Is this normal, or is there a glitch?
openUseful Notes Franchise Actors indexing
What's the policy on adding index markup on Useful Notes? I wanted to move the long actors lists off from Creator.Nickelodeon and Creator.Disney Channel and move to Franchise Actors, but wanted the lists to still index to Creator pages.
Edited by MegaJopenIs this removal valid?
On Bestiality Is Depraved, Harrison The Troper 2 removed this example:
- The eponymous Dog Nigga is the result of a drunk raping a stray dog, who proceeded to give birth to a dog/human hybrid. Growing up hated by humanity, the protagonist has made it his goal to find his father and rape him, thus continuing the cycle of bestiality.
Their edit reason was "YOU'RE WELCOME FOR THE REMOVAL OF THAT".
openThis is getting VERY annoying Film
Could someone please tell everyone who keeps saying Taskmaster from Black Widow (2021) is In Name Only? I and others have deleted and corrected this point several times and yet people keep peddling it on Black Widow (2021), Black Widow (2021), MCU: Other Supervillains and MCU: Russian Government & Military.
Edited by MinisterOfSinisteropenOdd Character Page
I found that the trope page for Evil Nerd has a character page that has no connection to a work with the same title, speaking about a character from My Hero Academia. I'm wondering what to do about it or how one would go about fixing the issue.
openWord Cruft question
Is "Let that sink in" or something similar considered Word Cruft?
openQuestion about Quotes
Is there an article on this Wiki explaining how to properly write a Quotes page? All Quotes Wiki states is that you should move extra quotes to a separate page in case they start bloating the main one.
I'm asking because I found this: New X-Men. To someone who has not read the comics, this is a jumbled mess of random quotes that don't make much sense by themselves.
openMonster/Webcomics
Monster.Webcomics has the description "Just because Webcomics are online, doesn't mean they lack utterly despicable villains." This implication that online content may not be taken seriously feels rather outdated. Should it get a new description?
Edited by nw09openCan TLP be used for making work-specific examples of tropes?
Existing Examples:
I've got Dash Attack Super Smash Bros in the works right now and was wondering if TLP could be used to get more eyes on it.
Edited by IkeaHan
Okay, so I know and agree with the policy of not using links to social media post for Unfortunate Implications, but does this apply for all other YMMV audience reactions? Like, if I want to show there is a Hype Backlash to something, is it alright if I link to a person (in professional manner) discussing merits of something? I'm mostly asking because whether the claimed audience reaction is true or not can be disputed and perhaps needs backing up, to show it isn't just the tropers own fringe opinion. Sometimes loud voices make other voices hard to hear. There are places you would no way in hell think ANYONE likes The Last Jedi, or that anyone doesn't adore Man of Steel. Is it at least okay if accompanied by a professional article?
