openTrope misuse in Zack Snyder's Justice League Film
I have two potential cases of trope misuse in Zack Snyder's Justice League. First, we have Advertised Extra, with two examples:
- Jesse Eisenberg is billed amongst the main cast, but is only seen in the Genesis Chamber in the opening credits without a word spoken, and in the Epilogue having a conversation with Deathstroke.
- Henry Cavill reflects this in more of a Small Role, Big Impact way, while Superman and his supporting cast does have some expanded content and is more heavily discussed in earnest prior to his resurrection, much of it is alternate takes of scenes and dialogue in the theatrical version rather than a reinstated subplot (as with Flash and Cyborg).
An Advertised Extra is character or actor who was prominent in advertisements turns out to only have a minor role. While a case can be made that Eisenberg is an AE, I have serious doubts of whether or not Cavill can be considered as such.
Then, there's Adaptational Badass, with the following context: "As a result of many action moments being restored, the heroes come off as more badass in this version (or rather, the 2017 film made them Adaptational Wimps, since the recut version of the film was the originally intended project).
- Diana's fight with Steppenwolf shows her holding her own a bit more. For one, Flash doesn't save her from falling debris and she outright knocks him over when she hits him with her bracelets shockwave. Steppenwolf is even shown having apprehension about facing her before getting to his axe.
- The Flash is more action oriented, taking on Parademons more directly (with a signature "tap with two fingers" attack) and utilizing Flash Step to save people from falling debris. He is also more confident with his powers, with the range and upper limits more fully explored, culminating in him managing to reverse time by a few seconds to save the League and the rest of the Earth from the Unity.
- Batman gets tossed around much less and his role in the Final Battle is made considerably more useful, essentially handling the reduction of Parademon defenses around Steppenwolf's base all on his own.
- Cyborg makes more use of his Arm Cannons, at one point even making an entire city block collapse on Parademons via a barrel roll.
- Aquaman causing Steppenwolf to be Blown Across the Room more often with quindent strikes, even using the quindent to send a water-based shockwave at one point.
- Superman only needs a small puff with zero effort to freeze Steppenwolf's axe, not a sustained Super-Breath.
- Even the Parademons, with some of them managing to destroy the Batmobile and stopping the Flash mid-race with plasma cannons. Overall, they come off as more of a threat than they were in the 2017 film.
Both Adaptational Badass and Adaptational Wimp have been constantly misused for years, and the tropes are when a character's effectiveness, agency and contributions to the story are increased/decreased, not just their raw power. This is a superhero movie we're talking about, after all.
So, what do you say?
openVideo Example Picture Quality Live Action TV
Can I report a video for looking too choppy? Specifically: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoExamples/WandaVisionEpisode2DontTouchThatDial
The choppiness looks especially obvious when Vision draws the heart in the night sky — yes, you should see him finish drawing it!
openEpic Race needs help
I just took a look at Epic Race and I found this in the Western Animation folder under Automobiles:
- The 1967 classic ’’Wacky Races’’ and its 2017 reboot involve a bunch of crazy cars with outrageous drivers.
- Tom Slick from the classic George of the Jungle drives his Thunderbolt Greaseslapper in one crazy race after another.
The thing is that I'm sure Epic Race is for exceptionally long races whereas both of these cartoons featured a series of shorter races. The longest race I can think of in either is when Tom Slick raced Baron Otto Matic halfway across the United States.
Then I looked over the page some more and I found more Zero Context Examples than I know what to do with. What can we do about this?

openAlphabetization numbers question
does 11th-Hour Superpower come before or after 100% Completion? How to Alphabetize Things says after, Time Immemorial Index says before
Edited by NoUsernameopenIs this subpage needed? Western Animation
A What Could Have Been subpage for Trolls World Tour was created last month by user Inky100 here. Compared to other subpages, however, it doesn't seem to be long enough to justify the move to its own page. Am I the only one who feels this way? I'd like more opinions before changing something like this back.
Edited by harryhenryopenAlphabetization questions
So, for example, the order would go 100, 19, 2? Or 19, 100, 2?
Also, I know we ignore "the" if it's at the beginning of a title, but what about otherwise? For example, would "X the Y" go before "X Unleashed"?
open The racially diverse romantic stepping-stone
Is there a trope for this already? Often a protagonist will date outside their race/ethnicity before getting with their One True Love, who just so happens to be white. It happens enough to count as a trope.
openAre some images and links on this site bugged recently?
Is there a bug on the Google results pointing to the TV Tropes website? Or are certain TV tropes images not reflected properly on Google anymore? It looks like Google thinks that some old images on this site are just uploaded recently.
- For example, I Googled "Genki Girl" and sure enough, this website is one of the top results. However, I noticed that while the Image results indeed preview the image that's currently on the Genki Girl page, that image has a "2 days ago" caption on its bottom-left... But I think that image has been uploaded a long time ago.
- I tried Googling recent shows as well, such as "tvtropes falcon and the winter soldier"... Page history says that the image was added on Feb 2021, yet on Google Image results, that same image has a "3 days ago" caption.
As for the links/potholed tropes, I would've wanted to write tropes on lowercase but the website displayed them in Wiki Word even if it's still written as lowercase on the source code.
For example, {{immune to flinching}} keeps on being displayed as Immune to Flinching even if the source code has them in lowercase.
openDivided index
Japanese Video Game Companies is divided into several headers. It's the only video game company index that does this. Should that index be changed to just an alphabetical list (like the rest are), or should the other indexes be changed?
openPrincess1988
Princess1988 has been vandalizing and/or blanking literally every page they have edited so far. The only reasoning I can find is what they left on TearJerker.Lilo And Stitch (the page itself, not the edit reason):
resolved Edit War on YMMV for Codes and Geass: Embracing Your Inner Megalomania
On April 12th, 2021, while reading the forum on Questionable Questing for the fanfic "Codes And Geass: Embracing Your Inner Megalomania", I came across a user under the belief that the author of the fic, Tropers/Trickster_Priest, was applying Ron the Death Eater to the characters of Nagisa Chiba and Shogo Asahina.
- Ron the Death Eater: Like many other fanfics, Chiba and Asahina fall victim to this. Contrasted with canon where, while the two are shown more distrustful of Zero after he abandoned them during the Black Rebellion and appeared unapologetic when he returned, and only betrayed him when given sufficient evidence to suggest he crossed the line, the Geass Order massacre for Asahina and the doctored evidence Schneizel provided for Chiba, here they are depicted as disloyal and belligerent from the outset, not helped by Trollouche going out of his way to antagonize them. For specifics though:
- Asahina is made out to be against Trollouche's leadership from the start, to the point he secretly aids an attempted coup d'etat and alliance with the Chinese Federation, and then subjected to a Uriah Gambit as punishment, said gambit resulting in his death due to Kewell emerging in the Siegfried.
- Chiba regularly badmouths Trollouche, stirred up unrest against the Britannian members of the Black Knights, and attempted to convince Tohdoh to stage another coup while Trollouche was comatose, only failing because Tohdoh had Undying Loyalty to Trollouche and C.C. was listening in, the latter of whom Chiba attacks upon discovering her listening in, only for C.C. to nearly kill as a means of putting the fear of god into her, and only spares her due to Tohdoh promising to kill her himself if she continues her treasonous behavior.
- Butt-Monkey: Ohgi, Asahina, and Chiba all are on Trollouche's shit list because he remembers who was responsible for the betrayal in canon.
- The Chew Toy: Trollouche goes out of his way to provoke people he doesn't like, particularly Chiba and Asahina of the Four Holy Swords. YMMV as to whether he's justified in blaming them for the events of the original timeline or not.
- Rather than step on landmines by commenting in the forums Trickstar Priest, I will just put this here: you are bashing Chiba and Asahina like many other fanfic writers. And remember, please don't remove this just because you disagree.
After adding it, Tropers/shadowwolf75 decided to immediately remove it, their edit reason being:
- Hi, I'm not trickster and you are still wrong; the difference here was Lelouch being more aggressive in calling it out because he remembered they were trouble before, they had NEVER liked him in canon and fucked him over later, and thus it does not fall to the extremes of Ron The Deatheater
- This is a YMMV trope. There are users in the forum who see this to be the case as they call out Trickster Priest for bashing. Just because you disagree doesn't mean you can remove a subjective trope, since you are only a single person. Take it up with trope repair threads if you absolutely must. Otherwise, remove it again, it's officially an Edit War.
While that initially appeared to be the end of it... Trickster Priest edited the page themself using the fact they were the author as justification in blatant defiance of "The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours". They additionally accused me of being anirock and doing this just because they didn't agree with "me".
- I however, am Trickster. And you are misrepresenting the situation and ignoring the nuances. And pulling this because I disagreed with your interpretation in the thread on QQ is especially galling.
This has escalated into a full out Edit War, and rather than do something stupid like restore the entry again or argue with Trickster Priest, I decided it prudent to take the matter to ATT, as Trickster Priest is blatantly ignoring Administrivia, and this is not the first time they have done so. And rather than argue as to why the trope doesn't apply, they instead accuse me of misinterpreting things and being a sockpuppet account for a different user with similar objections. So I am requesting ATT to step in to resolve this dispute.
Edited by RebelFalconopenPossible ban evader ?
Could a check be done on Willaim Shakespeare?
They edit a lot in the Oz pages and serial tweak and also use a two name username which the ban evader Chris Keller would do.
They also have bad grammar and spelling issues.
shown here, here, among others.
openTroper changing captions without discussion
haghdavid seems to have a problem with changing captions and page quotes without discussion, and it seems like it’s been this way for possibly over a year now. Here’s some page images that had their captions changed without discussion by them:
- Groin Attack (reverted)
- A-Team Firing (reverted)
- Capitalism Is Bad
- Laughing Mad
- The Dreaded (image was replaced so the caption they changed is gone)
- Ramming Always Works
- God
- The Antichrist
There might be more, but I wasn’t bothered to search through their entire edit history. They also changed the quote on Interchangeable Asian Cultures, but I couldn’t find anything else like such in their edit history.
openDisambiguation of subpages.
Peering the Ambiguity Index, I was wondering what justified the existence of some disambiguations with a subpage namespace, when a corresponding disambiguation with a work namespace already exists, for example with:
- VideoGame.Fire Emblem Archanea
- VideoGame.Fire Emblem Elibe
- VideoGame.Fire Emblem Jugdral
- Film.Petes Dragon
I understand they are probably the result of a disambiguation split, but their contents seem to be quite redundant when there is already a principal disambiguation page. Would anybody mind if they are cutlisted?

Edited by Traveler123openQuestionable YMMV Wording Film
YMMV.Jason And The Argonauts has some complainy entries for Narm and Took the Bad Film Seriously. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but should they be commented out or removed (haven't seen the movie so I can't reword them)?
Yep, it involves RNGSOMEONE again... They still have persistent Natter and Indentation issues, and I have sent them a total of three notifiers in the last few days.
On Characters.Genshin Impact Other Monsters, they used triple bullet points to add to the Weaksauce Weakness example. This is what the example looks like now.
