I recently made an edit on the Atomic Rockets article stating that particle beam weapons would kill everyone on board (which is from the article, BTW). I accidentally wrote that this was from bremsstrahlung radiation. It was since excised, because "Bremsstrahlung is an effect of a charged particle beam impacting a target, not an effect that occurs when a ship is using a particle beam weapon." The correct term is synchrotron radiation, where particles escape from curved portions of accelerators (and, in some circles, is referred to as "magnetobremsstrahlung radiation" anyways), which still results in a ship that glows in the dark. Is it alright to redo the entry with the information updated for accuracy?
Edited by dvorakopenHow many examples do I need before I can add an entry to a fan trope page
I saw at least three The Big Bang Theory crossover fanfics where a character from another gets a job at Cal Tech. While three isn't a lot, I think the fact that three different authors came up with the same set up is noteworthy. I was thinking of adding an entry to either Common Crossover or Obvious Crossover Method. Would this be okay, or should I look for more examples?

Edited by IkeaHanopenEdit war Videogame
People are edit warring on Fire Emblem: Three Houses – Black Eagles, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Antagonistsnote technically no war on this page yet, but it's where some of the warred content ended up , and Fire Emblem: Three Houses – The Church of Seiros over whether Crimson Flower or Silver Snow is the Black Eagles route (they technically both are, but the former is more difficult to get and the latter is missing two of its members) and whether to call Crimson Flower the Flame Emperor's route or Silver Snow the Church route, both of which are interpretations of difference not present in the text, either by Word of God (the former) or majority Death of the Author opinion (the latter).
I kinda want to go with a third option based only on the game content on the Black Eagles page such as: (spoiled just for att)
"This house has two potential routes, one where you side with Edelgard and Hubert called "Crimson Flower" and one where you side against them called "Silver Snow"."
And leave the antagonist and church pages blank of route information, but I don't want to contribute to the edit war.
Edited by PPPSSCopen'What an Idiot' on Hateful Eight Film
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/TheHatefulEight
The 'What an Idiot' trope on The Hateful Eight has become just a literal discussion of back and forth. Point > Counter point > Point > counterpoint > unrelated 'what an idiot' trope that's not even that because it would rely on the character having background information they don't have > going back to the initial discussion with another counterpoint > point.
It's just a mess. Should it just all be excised?

So, when we're creating a page, we are allowed to pick the page image for it before launching it, yes? Or we still have to go to the image pickin' forum?

The 'Following' page is having a major glitch where the words go vertical for some reason, making the page unreadable. I tried reloading and reopening the page but no fix.
Does any of you have this glitch?
Edited by GoodGamer14openWhat works to add to Fan Works pages
On Fan Works pages for a work or franchise, is it acceptable to add works that don't have a page on the site, or should those pages' lists be limited to fan works that already have an active article?
openThe fact of a medium vs. trend/trope Film
"Theatre" isn't an option on the drop down, but this is about three theatre tropes: The Musical, Screen-to-Stage Adaptation, and All Musicals Are Adaptations.
There are four separate things being discussed here, and all of them are mixed together on those pages.
- The fact that the medium of musicals exists, on stage or on film.
- The fact that a lot of musicals are adapted from other media (and which media they're adapted from). (And the rarity of original musicals)
- Why there are trends of stage adaptations of certain media in certain times and places.
- Parodies of the above.
The "Film" folder of The Musical features both Musical Films and Films that have musical adaptations. The "Literature" folder is all Books that have musical adaptations. Most of said adaptations are doubly-listed under "Theatre".
The description of Screen-to-Stage Adaptation describes a specific trend of such adaptations in America. I was told to fold a description of a separate trend in Japan, and I tried to make it work, but...
A medium is not People Sit on Chairs. Indexing works in a medium, or in a niche or genre of a medium, is page-worthy. So is Medium-A-to-Medium-B-adaptation, it seems.
But when there is a "Why", when there is a trend that has an effect on what gets made and how, (e.g. The Renaissance Age of Animation, the trend in the description of Screen-to-stage), that's like when a chair becomes more than just a chair, it becomes a trope. Or at least Useful Notes-worthy.
So what I'm asking now is,
- Should entries on The Musical be musicals or works with musical adaptations? If "Both", how should they be separated? Should they be separated by source media, with "original musicals" given its own folder?
- There are already Theatre of the 2010s, Theatre of the 1990s, etc pages, that are simply alphabetized. Should they be further made navigable? How — by musical vs. non-musical, by source, by country? They don't seem very functional.
- Should Screen-to-Stage Adaptation be a catchall for all stage productions based on films and games? If so:
- Should it be divided by trend/reason, as it is now? If not, can those trends have separate pages/Useful Notes, the way the Animation Renaissance does?
- Should there be a "plays adapted from books" page? Should there be a "plays adapted/modernized from other plays" page (e.g. RENT, Miss Saigon, West Side Story? It seems odd not to have some sort of page or index for that, whether as a matter-of-fact thing, or as a trend (e.g. 19th century European books into musical epics, influenced by Les Misérables).
The fact that there is a page called All Musicals Are Adaptations, but it's just for parodies and aversions, makes it more confusing. Making it just about parodies and making the title clearer would be helpful.
tl;dr — I suggest separating The Musical, Theatre of the 2010s, et. al. into folders by source material, and giving the other pages some more substantial reason for existing.
Edited by lavendermintroseopenI'm confused by Mysterious Animal Senses
Mysterious Animal Senses only allows aversions and subversions, yet it's not on No Straight Examples, Please!, and both sections are just about animal senses being portrayed realistically, which feels like chairs. Does anyone else take issue with this?
Edited by NitroIndigoopenCasting Gag misuse?
On Characters.Genshin Impact Inazuma, I found this example in Kazuha's profile.
- Casting Gag: Nobunaga Shimazaki also voices Yuno, a character from Black Clover. He's another wind-element user with a gentle personality who wields a sword.
Does this read more like "Hey! It's That Voice!" than a Casting Gag to anyone? Because I'm not sure what the gag even is regarding this partiular situation.
openAnimation Age Ghetto
Is Animation Age Ghetto supposed to describe an audience reaction, or what? Most of the examples on YMMV pages seem to be not perceptions of the work, but perceptions of people's perceptions of the work.
open Can TLP be used for making redirects?
I thought it'd be neat if pages like Transgender had alternate names like Trans Girl/Boy. Though the only way I seem to be able to do this to create a trope from scratch which isn't very efficient with the TLP pipeline.
Edited by IkeaHanopenSections for suits of armor on character pages
It is appropriate to create subsections on a Character Sheet for each Powered Armor suit a character wears and move tropes like Adaptation Dye-Job, Movie Superheroes Wear Black, Power Palms etc there instead of listing them alphabetically? I understand why sentient familiars or A.I.s get their sections — they are characters in their own right. But in my opinion creating 18 subsections for each MCU: Iron Man suit on his page with a separate picture, a description, "appears in" only results in a lot of trope duplication and confusion when editing the page. Is this really necessary?
Edited by AsherinkaopenMuur's at it again Anime
Remember how Muur has a history of Righting Great Wrongs with Digimon names? Well, dude's at it again. Here, he's added "Blind Idiot" Translation because the official translators changed the Japanese "Brachimon" into "Brachiomon". For context: The Digimon in question is based on the Brachiosaurus, and it's hardly a "blind idiot" translation to intentionally change the name so that it's more reminiscent of the dinosaur the thing is based on.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenCreating an Index Anime
Selecting "anime" because "theatre" isn't an option.
I created a TLP entry for 2.5D Stage Plays, which are anime/manga/game-based, or anime-style, stage plays, mostly in Japan. It's getting to be a really big thing, and I feel like TVT should have a page for it, just in order to be comprehensive about what media there is in the world. There are other niches, including non-English niches, that have index pages, so why shouldn't 2.5D?
However, it doesn't seem like TLP is the right place to put this suggestion. So, I was wondering where else I should go to suggest this. Something like the page for Jukebox Musical. Is that considered a trope?
(For more information about 2.5D, The Other Wiki, Japan 2.5D Musical Association. According to the Japanese article I linked in the main section, there were 194 2.5D plays produced in 2018.)

open Where to report possible programming bug (or feature)? Web Original
I'm assuming it's one of the fora but based on what I see there I don't know which one is right. EDIT: I'll just mention it here. Browsing tropes not logged in on an old iPad 2 using Safari I suddenly can't open folders, nor can I click notes to expand or spoilers to show. I cleared history and website data but thee issue remains.
Well when I say "suddenly" it has been on-and-off for a few days now, on some pages I could and some I couldn't, but now every page I visit I can't open folders etc.
